My parents decided that they want to go to Food & Wine next year. They want to stay four days, we want to stay a week. Is there a chance that we could book a lock-off two bedroom and then go down to a one bedroom without having to change rooms? I am booking at SSR, I think that my parents would enjoy walking to DS at night.

I don't think it's something that can be guaranteed. If you have two reservations, one for a 2BR followed by one for a 1BR, you may add it as a reuqest and ask for it at the time of the first check in, they may be able to accommodate you. It would make things simplier for them as well. However probably you'd have to go to the desk to checkout and checkin and it still may happen that you have to move. But no harm in asking!

I figured that I would have to go to the front desk. DH prefers dedicated two bedrooms, but if there was a chance that I wouldn’t have to switch rooms, I would book a lock-off.

There is no way to guarantee it but I do think being at SSR, since there are so many rooms, you’d have a much better chance.

I think the problem is that you wouldn’t really know until you got there. I do split stays so moving rooms is something I’ve done and don’t mind. I guess the question is what is the difference in points savings forn those 3 days and is it worth having to switch rooms if they can’t accommodate you at check in.

I have switched rooms many times and don’t really have a problem with it. It just seemed like it would be easier if I didn’t have to. I will book the lock-off and just be hopeful.

We have done it. It shouldn't be a problem since you are dropping a section. Trying to add on would be the problem since they would need the adjacent unit to be vacant. I called when I made the reservation and explained the situation, they can note that on the reservation for the room assigner. I don't remember saying anything at check in, but that would be a good idea. It is to their benefit since they don't have to clean your section of the unit.

We did it years ago, but the other direction. We started in a one bedroom and expanded to a two bedroom lockoff. We had it noted on our reservation that we wanted to stay in the one bedroom portion and open up the studio next door when our two bedroom reservation started. You need to ask the front desk if you are blocked into that one bedroom for your second reservation when you check in for the first part.
