Going for just a week?

We'd love to go to Orlando for October Half term, to take part in the Halloween celebrations as we've never been there before. Thing is, being a teacher, I can only spend the week there, and I've only ever spent 2/3 weeks previously.

Question is, the price is pretty similar as going for 2 weeks in August, which annoys me slightly, but is it worth it for just a week?

Maybe a bit late for this Oct but prices are no-where near August prices if you book at right time. We are going Oct half term £240each for indirect flights (really good times) £77 each for room (Fairfield Inn)with breakfast and wireless internet, £57 each for full size car with platinum cover. £374 each(based on 3 people), for 8 nights. We struggle to get a flight in August for that, cost me £336 for flight this August using loads of miles.

I think if my only option was to go for a week then I would go, especially if I had been quite a few times before and knew I wouldn't need to rush round to see and do everything.

We went for a week in August last year and really enjoyed it. I think because we knew we couldn't do everything in a week we just took our time.
If your aim is just to take in Halloween Celebrations then you won't worry about missing anything else. I'd go for it!

I've done a week and WDW followed by a week in Mexico which is obviously different to what you are planning but a week in Disney was fine.....cetainly better than a week at home. Go for it.

Sorry I am going to be in the minority here but I wouldn't.

I understand the situation of a week is better than not going at all , however I can only go off our own experiences/circumstances.
It's too far I think for one week, such a long flight and we find it takes Joshua at least 2 or 3 days to adjust his sleeping pattern.

I suppose my answer is I wouldn't personally go, but if you feel up for it then it would be harsh of me to be too negative.

I think if the idea is just to do Disney and take in halloween celebrations and you have been before then go for it. Personally I don't think I could go for less than 2 weeks I dread coming home even after 2 weeks.

As you have already been this year and probably done everything you wanted to do in that time, I would go and just concentrate on specific things like HHN.

If we went for a second time in a year we would just stay at Universal, do those 2 parks, shop and eat.

We only did a week at WDW when we first ever went,and we loved it.
A week is better than nothing and the price would most probably work out the same as in going elsewhere...bar tickets of course.I would go.

I'm going with my two sons for a week this October half-term. It won't be a full-on park experience - MNSSHP and HHN are the main objectives! I found it quite reasonable cost-wise but maybe that's because my DS's half term is 2 weeks long so we weren't restricted to travelling at the weekend... We've been for just a week quite a few times now - I like it as I don't seem to suffer any jet lag on the shorter trips...

Short answer - "yes" because you've been before, and won't feel the same pressure to cover a lot of ground.

We seldom visit for longer than a week now, and during a 7-day stay we'll switch resorts / locations at least once, and usually twice. I guess we must have itchy feet, but I can't imagine staying in the same place for two weeks like we did when we first started visiting Orlando

It's all down to individual choice and what suits your particular family's preferences and expectations from your holiday. So, if you feel it could work for you - go for it!

How long have you and your family got to recover??
That would be my only worry? Sometimes my kids have taken up to a week to get back into British time, and I'd hate to think they were straight back into school? We've 'done' Disney in a week, but by staying on site and using the early starts etc.. but we were off to the Keys for the second week, not flying home.
If you have enough 'recovery' time - then go for it!!

I agree, we went for a week and with the long flights it was a killer. It just felt like we were rushing to do everything.

If it was just a bonus trip, I wouldn't think twice, but if it would mean pushing back my next visit, I don't think I'd be able to justify it to myself. We went for 8 days just before Christmas in 2001, but it was a late invitation from friends who'd already booked and our next trip was already in the bag. If I had to choose between a week at short notice, or a planned (longer) trip 6 months or so down the line, I'd force myself to be sensible about it.

Obviously a week costs significantly less in terms of food, but because the cost of flights is no different regardless of the duration of the trip, I really struggle to rationalise short trips in my own mind. Of course, if money was no object...

I don't think I would. It's not cheap enough to justify just a week with me. I have to save up for my holidays, no cc, and I wouldn't be happy saving almost the same amount as a 2 week holiday, but only going for a week.

I would rather wait until I could afford two.

But everyone is different. If I could afford to go yearly, or more, I would definitely go for a week. And October, in my eyes, is the perfect time to go.
