We will be in Disney for DS 10th bday on Jan. 3rd. We will be staying offsite as rooms get expensive with 5 Dcherubs and us. My question is this, we have booked the illumiantions cruise but want to do a special dinner for him at Disney. Does anyone have any experience with this? I am making a big deal out of it for 2 reasons. The first is we just had a month and a half long scare with lumps under his arm that turned out fine, but was a big scare for him as well as us. The second is his birthday is January 3rd., it seems like family as well as friends invited to parties right after Christmas either forget him or don't show up. If I have to answer 1 more year why his Grandmother or friends or aunts forgot I am going to scream. So I soved it, we are going to Disney, lol. Seriously, any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated!
Faith, trust, and pixie dust to you all.....

My DS, also 10, loves the rainforest cafe. It's not as "Disney" as some other places, but he's not so much into the characters anymore. Also a thought might be to give him three wishes that day. It might be something like riding test track as many times as he wants or spending half a day at the pool or Disney Quest. Anything that puts him in charge for the day. Have a blast.

Make sure you stop my guest services in any of the parks to pick up a button that says "It's My Birthday Today".

Are you taking the birthday Illuminations cruise. The cake is delicious if you do. they also provide snacks & drinks.

I've taken my DD a couple time for her birthday. When she was 9 she really enjoyed the Princess breakfast in the MK. This past summer she turned 12 & she wanted to go to 50's Prime Time. The waiters & waitresses made a big deal out of her.

Where ever you decide to eat just make sure you let the wait staff know that it's your DS's B-day. Chef Mickey's is also fun for a B-day celebration.

My 10 yo ds is still into the characters, and we're celebrating his 11th b-day at WDW. I let him choose a meal, and he picked Tony's with Pooh for lunch. My 8 yo ds chose lunch at Garden Grill, and we're doing SBP for my 4 yo dd. For a special supper, how about Chef Mickey's? Your Illuminations Cruise probably leaves from the CR anyway. You'd have supper with Mickey and friends and be able to just walk out to the marina. One thing my kids like about buffets is the ice cream bar and making their own concoction.

Those early January birthdays can stink sometimes! My DD has one also:)

We are celebrating her birthday at WDW also, I let her choose where she wanted to go and she chose Cinderella's Castle and the Princess breakfast at Epcot.

Depending on what time your Illuminations Cruise is and where it leaves from, you could try to choose a restaurant that would make transportation between the two events convenient, but I tend to go with the "let your son pick" train of thought, even if you have to eat a bit earlier to fit your schedule. And definitely let CM know when you make PS, then again when you check in, then also when your server comes to the table!

Birthdays are a huge deal for kids and CM's are great about making them special!

Have a great trip!

My son is also 10 and his favorite is Sci Fi Diner. It is always the 1st choice for him. They have great burgers and the themeing is fun. Last time we were there he even got a glow in the dark ice cube in his drink. Good for you to do something special for his birthday, how awful that others forget, they are little such a short time. Have fun!:)

Another good location for you DS's birthday dinner would be 'Ohanas in the Polynesian. They offer all you can eat fare served family style at your table. The food is good and the atmosphere is very festive.

When my 16 year old DS turned 10 we were at WDW. We celebrated at Sci-Fi. Any place can be a "special" birthday when the CM's bring out a cupcake and make a fuss. It was nice and he still remembers it fondly. After that, I arranged to call Goofy who sang "Happy Birthday" to him, I believe. We were given the phone number to dial by a helpful CM. I don't know if they still do this but it does add a magical touch to the day!
