Going above and beyond?

DS has peanut allergy and is a bit picky so most appetizers and soups on the Dream were no to his liking. Though not on the menu any night he had his favorite ceasar salad every night, even without asking. Took DD BF and upon seeing her pick at her main course our server (Yekta) asked what was wrong and what else could he get her. She said she would be ok but Yekta new she liked pasta and shrimp so asked if she wanted the pasta dish with shrimp and scallops. When she stated she would but she did not like scallops, a serving of the pasta with extra shrimp came in 2-3 minutes - including our server peeling the shell off the shrimp.

Note Yekta and Helsniki serving team went above and beyond not only at dinner but everytime they saw us at breakfast, on CC, etc.

My Dh is a meat guy. Dont bother with dessert, just give him meat.

Our server was awesome with DD but even better with Dh (hooked Dd up with Mickey Mac n Cheese each night.) He kept him covered in the meat department and on the last night brought him the ordered entree, and then a side of all the other meats that were on the menu. It was fun to try a little of everything that night.

Our picky eater (Age 10) promised to try a new food at each meal on our recent cruise. On the third night she ordered an appetizer that included strawberries (one of her favorites). The plate was served with just one small strawberry on top. She got very quiet. I took her outside the MDR to have a chat about what was wrong. Through tears she told me that she didn't like any of the food because it wasn't the same as the description. I told her she didn't have to try new foods if she didn't want to and I would help her order to make sure she had something she liked.

When we got back to our table our main server discretely asked me if something was wrong (it was pretty obvious she had been crying). I told him she order the app because it had strawberries and was disappointed that it only had one small berry. Within a few minutes she received a full bowl of fresh strawberries. And...another bowl was waiting for her each of the remaining nights of our cruise!

That is really brave she would try new things.

We were on the Magic and within minutes of getting to our rooms the room attendant knocked on the door. Asked if we had any questions, I had one. I asked where I could find an ice machine to fill our ice bucket. She asked at what time would I like it delivered, we told her around 5pm would be perfect. Every day at 5pm a fresh bucket of ice was delivered to our room. I was very impressed, maybe not a big deal to some but it was to me. All I wanted was directions, she went way above and beyond in my opinion.

On our 2nd cruise in 2006, my then 5 year old DD would only eat Oreos before bed at night. Upon hearing this, our server picked some up in Nassau and delivered them to her when she had finished her dinner that night. I'm glad she's not so picky anymore about what she eats!

on one of our DCL cruises we booked Palo and that turned out to be lobster night in the main rooms .... we had told our server we'd be doing Palo and the kids eating with the clubs .... around 11pm there was a knock at the door and he delivered a platter with 6 lobster tails and butter . . .

I'm not sure that's a GOOD bed time snack, but it was sweet.

On another DCL cruise server noticed ds was missing from dinner one evening (we usually ate as a family) and we mentioned he was under the weather. That evening the server came to our room with a package of crackers for our guy who missed dinner . . .

These ARE the things that makes DCL different from other cruise lines.

This reminds me of just recently on the magic DH asked the attendant to deliver some ice in a beer bucket for him so DH could put his beer in it while we were at the movies. He delivered the ice and put the beers in it I was so suprised when I ran to the room before the movie to take care of the beer.
Its the little things

My DH loves his Mickey ice cream bars and every night at dinner he orders his dessert (or two or three) and a "side" of a Mickey ice cream bar. One night our server asked my DH if he would be dining the following night in the MDR and when he said yes, she informed him there would be a special treat for him following his dinner. She had made him a mickey ice cream bar milkshake and it was the most amazing milkshake ever. My DH was in heaven!

On our cruise in January on the Magic, our assistant server was Tiago (loved him!) and our server was Juan (awesome too!). My son had his usual plain pasta with butter the first night and then enjoyed the fish entree the next night, and the third night. The fourth night the fish was salmon. He didn't like it at all. I guess seeing that DS wasn't liking his food the way he had previous nights, whitefish (sole that night but it varied) and french fries suddenly appeared which were quickly devoured! Every night following DS was asked if he was ordering off the menu or if he'd like the chef's special whitefish. Made DS feel very special and not afraid to request what he liked.
For me, I had asked if there was anyway to get a cherry coke. Of course, not a problem! Tiago also brought me one after dessert for me to take back to my room. Each night there was a cherry coke loaded with cherries waiting for me upon arrival, and every night he had one ready for me to take away.

One cruise, on Tropical night (replaced now by that silly pirate night), we had the most amazing warm banana bread with dinner. I was just gushing over it. At the end of the meal, our server brought me an entire loaf of it, still warm, all wrapped up to take with me. I ate that on the balcony with coffee every morning for the rest of the week, and it was awesome. :goodvibes

We love the banana bread as well. On the classic ships it is a loaf the size of a meatloaf that they slice. On the Dream class ships it is individual baby loaves. We ask about it on the first night and a plate of it shows up every night for the rest of the cruise. It is soo good!!

We also had Tiago (on Magic back in November) and he and our server Agus and our head server George were terrific. It was just DH and me at a four-top. The rest of their section was a large family reunion of 10 people and a table of four. The table of four didn't like ANYTHING that was served to them, and complained about every bit of food. The table of ten was a lovely foreign family, and they had several dishes of different ethnic foods. In spite of all that, our team took great care of us. We were usually served last, just because of the logistics, I imagine, but never complained and always chatted a bit with all of them.

We sailed on Magic again in June. As we approached Lumiere's for our first dinner, there was Tiago at the entrance, handing out the hand wipes. He greeted us like we were long-lost friends. It was so cute! I was very surprised. I've always just thought that many times servers remember you because your name is on that list. We weren't in his section, he just knew us. And, just by coincidence, our head server was George again, and he was wonderful. He helped make that cruise one of the best ever. Sometimes it's not "above and beyond" service that makes the cruise, but the constant, attentive and wonderful service that happens each day.

I'll be aboard Magic in September and I certainly hope to see George and Tiago again!

How brave of her to try new things like that, especially on a cruise where things are SO different from the norm. Whenever I go on a cruise I make it a point to try something I've never had before (I'm 26 years old) and have discovered some of my favorite dishes that way.

As a former cast member, it really makes me proud to see a thread like this. It's so nice to know that some of what we do really gets noticed. Trust me, the staff has just as much fun making a "magical moment" for you as you had experiencing it.

i love to read all these sweet stories about the special treatment but it makes those of us who don't get the special treatment feel a little bad we were on our first Disney Dream cruise and while we didn't have bad service it was far from magical and i wonder if i had not read the great stories i wouldn't have been disappointed we are planing on going on a Fantasy 2014 cruise so we did have a great time maybe next time we will get lucky!

Dont worry we have been on DCL cruises where we havent had a big magical.moment. We have experinced some smaller magical moments like our waiter making a mickey ketchup head for our DD or cutting her food and feading her (we saw this happen to another just recently on the Magic). Another smaller one was when we took some time to talk.with one of the bar tenders at Pink last year (cant remeber her name she was Jamacain I think) & the next day she out at the adult pool and was so nice to us.

Beth, you can call up and request them.

We were on the Magic two weeks ago, and had requested the server that we had during our WBTA in September.

Of course I should preface this by saying that I had surgery and radiation treatments from April - June, and my mouth was a mess from radiation burns and one of my jaw tendons being cut and retied (shorter) during surgery.

We arrived at our table and our server Andrae saw me and said that although I looked familiar, be could not quite place me. We explained that he and his assistant Willy had taken care of us and the other 5 people in our party for two weeks on the TA. He remembered our whole party and was very happy that we'd requested him again!

Of course with my burn issues, it was difficult to find things that wouldn't hurt my mouth- but he was totally amazing and brought me countless dishes to try to find me something that I could eat without pain. Even down to getting a filet from somewhere- and of course Mickey bars every night for dessert! The sad thing was that I couldn't eat the chocolate coating of the bar, but the vanilla ice cream inside was the BEST!!!

We'll be looking forward to seeing Andrae again (maybe on the Fantasy) next year. He says that after he takes his vacation he'll probably be transferred to the Fantasy.

Bravo Andrae! He was a big reason why I was able to enjoy my cruise!!!

We were on the Fantasy July 14-21 this month. So many special cast members!

Photographer - Andre from South Africa is AMAZING. We went to have family pictures done before dinner one evening. He was the photographer, and said he remembered us, had we been on the Dream? I said yes, and was surprised he remembered. Then he shocked me even more and asked if it was in March the year before? YES! All this was exchanged BEFORE we gave him a room key; he had no way of knowing except from memory. Let's see, cruises were 16 months apart, on ships of 4000 people sailing weekly. Now THAT is an amazing memory! And once again he took the most incredible pictures of my family.

Servers - We had Dwayne from Jamaica and Francisco (Franco) from Dominican Republic. Best servers we have ever had! Dwayne requested that we eat breakfast in his service area every morning (he would tell us which restaurant), and then spent quite a bit of time talking with us at breakfast because things are a much slower pace then. He chastised me (in a good way) one night at dinner for cutting my daughter's food because that was his job :) He actually took the silverware from me to complete the job.

Franco was so much fun! He took a real liking to my daughter, and performed tricks for her each night. By the end of the cruise, he was including tricks that even my BIL couldn't figure out. (That's ok because my BIL taught him some new tricks too.) These two men really made our dining experiences so extra special. We even had a good head server (Jaime) - first time in five cruises with DCL that the head server really made an effort to be seen and be helpful at the tables in our area.

Our favorite server, Daniel, while on the Dream, knew how much we loved the Creme Brulee we had the night before. He told us it would be no problem to have it again. When dh mentioned that it wasn't on the menu, he took a pen and wrote it at the bottom and told us, "There. Now it's on the menu." :thumbsup2 :rotfl2:

He also performed some magic tricks with forks & toothpicks the 1st time we had him for a server on the Magic. On subsequent cruises, we always requested him and when we finally got him again, he showed our boys how to perform the trick. They would practice every night throughout dinner. Every evening we'd arrive at our table with a pile of forks and toothpicks.

Gosh, we love him so and will miss him terribly since he no longer works for DCL.

My husband is deadly allergic to seafood of any kind and knowing that a lot of dinner items were just that, seafood, we reluctantly booked a Disney cruise. His allergy is so bad that even if a utensil is used to touch fish and then his food, he would have an anyphelactic reaction. On our very first dinner, our server was taking our order and my husband told him about the severity of his allergy. Moments later, the head server came to our table and told us that he would personally be taking care of our whole tables food. From then on, my husband got the menu for the next evenings dinner service and ordered a day early so that a chef would be able to make his dinner in a separate area. The service was above and beyond.

On the Disney Magic in Dec 99, our daughter at breakfast insisted that she had "Frosties" cereal for breakfast, but there was none on the buffet. Our server told us to get the rest of our breakfast and he would be back.

5 minutes later once we had sat down with juice, he appeared with a box of "Frosties", definitely worth a tip and he got a big one.
