I couldn't resist one more post before I went under the Dentist's evil pliers and wires. Motor mouth panda strikes again.

We have a lot of new people on our WISH board this year, so we can talk about goals again.

Athletes need goals, everyone on the WISH is an athlete, so get busy. There are several types of goals:

The short term goal: I'm going to lose 2 lbs this week or I'm going to get in 20 miles this week

Medium term goals: I will break 30 minutes for the 5K this year or I will finish the Disney half in January.

Long term goals: I'm going to make the Disney Marathon an annual event, or I will keep myself trained to the point that I can comfortalely do a half marathon when ever I want and a full with just few longer run/walks.

You need goals so you can focus on what you want to accomplish with your exercise. Even if you just want to be in better shape so you can enjoy everything in life better.

Don't be afraid to stretch your goals to seemingly unatainable limits. When we train properly we are stronger after each stress/rest cycle. You just don't know how good you may become so don't be afraid to go for it. There is an old saying: "If you shoot for the moon and miss you will still land among the stars".

Have some super secret goals to: I want to look good in a swim suit or I wanna have killer abs or is that the same thing?

Share your goals if you dare. I will share mine when I return in a day or to.

Good luck tomorrow, Panda! We'll be thinking of you!

Now, do I have to choose the either/or options you listed? ;) I could probably lose 2 pounds easier than the 20 miles, but maybe I should take the 20 miles.... I will finish the half in January.... I'm going to make the Disney Marathon an annual event.... Killer abs sound good, but I'll settle for looking good in a swimsuit. Sounds less painful to achieve.

Thanks for the reminder to keep setting goals, Dave! pirate:

Thanks Panda, I need goals.

My short term goal is to lose at least 2 pounds this week.

My medium goal is to be 15 pounds lighter and to finish the Country Music Marathon with time to spare.

My long term goal is to be at least 50 pounds lighter by next October and to do the Portland, Maine 1/2 in October and the WDW 1/2 in January.
Also long term I plan to be healthier and faster!!!!!

We can do whatever we put our minds to. As Team Hoyt says.... I CAN!!!!!!

1/2marathon pixie: Bumming, I chose the MDI full in October over Portland. Sorry to miss you!!

My short term goal is to maintain 20-25 miles a week no matter what the weather is.

My medium goal is probably to be able to consistently run around a 10 minute mile.

My long term goal is to build my miles base up enough so when someone says "wanna do a half this weekend" I don't have to worry that I am undertrained. I just want to say "Sure, I have 13 scheduled this weekend anyway!!!!!!"

See this proves beyond a reasonable doubt that I just ain't right!!!! :upsidedow

Goals are good--I really need the external motivation. My short term goal is to run the Minnie 15k and the stretch goal is to finish in 90 minutes (Some days it seems doable, others,eh)

My longer term goal is to not gain weight as I age, all the while eating the things that I enjoy, because life is just not fun if you have to cut out the foods you love or worry that every little glass of wine, piece of chocolate or dish of Cheddar Goldfish (my personal weaknesses) is going to pack on the pounds.
