Go Carolina Panthers!!!!!!!!!!!!

Consider this balloon popped.

(Actually, it would be fairer to say it was blown up by a few hundred pounds of high energy explosives.)

This in NOT a smack thread. Go somewhere else for that. I myself am very proud of the season we had. We didn't play last night and Seattle did. With that said I'll be a classy fan and wish Seattle to do well in the super bowl.

Wow- you are exactly right, the guys sure didn't show up to play yesterday! I was wondering when "that" team would show up, what a disappointment. I knew it was over as soon as Jake threw that first interception, they never got any ryhthm going at all. Steve Smith sure did have one heck of a punt return though :teeth: Oh well, here's to next year pixiedust: (atleast now I can relax and just watch the superbowl without being :scared:

Well I'm going to root for Pittsburgh on the 5th, not because Seattle won but because of The Bus, it would be nice for him to win a championship in his last season.

OT but my niece is going to be a cheerleader at the Pro Bowl if anyone is going to watch that, she is a 16yr old high school student and their group will be performing at half time with the Backstreet Boys. They get to have some sort of dinner with the players one night, she is so lucky (not to mention she is missing a week of school to go to Hawaii!!!!)

I'm not smacking you. Hey, your team had a great season, and btw, they have great uniforms too - I love their colors - much better than ours IMO ;) . Seattle hasn't been anywhere in over 20 years, and never to a Super Bowl. This is a first for us, so we're all just pinching ourselves still to see if it's truly the real deal.

The game was awful to watch. :scared: I agree with the others that said our guys just didn't show up to play. Seattle did a great job of putting stops on Steve Smith. (His punt return was awesome, though!) Plus, the running game was knocked out immediately too. I agree with 2BigKIds when she said that you knew it was over when Jake started the interceptions. He was shaken, and it was evident. I am not ashamed of our guys one bit!!!!! They had an excellent season. It was an honor just to be in that playoff game........and they WERE there! They have NOTHING to be ashamed of!!!!!! They are a classy and super team. It is not just hype!!!! It is a FACT, Mossman.
I think I will be rooting for Seattle in the super bowl because of the above quote. This is their first time to be there. I have nothing against the Steelers. They are a great team. I just think I will cheer for the "under dog." Plus, we would be able to say that we lost the NFC championship to the super bowl winners. That might make it feel a little better. ;)

Thanks! Your team did a great job, Hasselbeck was darn near perfect!

We do have great colors and good uniforms, I am thankful I am not a fan of the Bengals or Browns!!!

No smack intended bcvgal – just an observation. I’m not a fan of either team as it happens. I’m just a football fan who was looking forward to a good game on Sunday. And since the Panthers have at least been entertaining for most of the season, I was looking forward to their game against the Seahawks. If pressed before the game, I would have chosen the Panthers to prevail.

So it was with both surprise and disappointment that I watched Carolina get dismantled by a far superior Seattle team. It’s hard to believe that a team good enough to make it to the conference championship game could be so dominated. Even though I had no emotional stake in the game, I couldn’t help but feel embarrassed for the players. This was especially true when the coaching staff just gave up on victory early in the 4th quarter. There was about ten minutes left in the game with the Panther down by 3 scores and they decide to punt on 4th down. This was tantamount to raising a surrender flag. If the NFL had a mercy rule, Carolina would have left the field at that point and taken a DNF. I thought the Panthers had heart. But then I also thought they had a good defense.

I truly feel sorry for the Carolina fans - to have their illusions shattered with such disheartening finality must be awful difficult to come to grips with.

It was Seattle's pass rush. Our DB's are far from the best in the NFL so it was all about the QB having no time for timing routes or to go through the progressions.

Not sure how well known it was, but Seattle came into the game with one of the NFL's best pass rushes. It shouldn't have been a surprise to the Panthers, but it sure seemed to be.

Ruh-oh, is someone talking smack about my son's team?

Mossman, my son has interned with the Panthers for 3 years. Prior to that he interned in the summer before he graduated. Were they disappointed on Sunday? Yes, but in any game someone is going to lose.

I've met many of the staff members and some of the players. When they went to the Superbowl, my DH spoke to Jake Delhomme at the party that followed. He's the most down to earth person you'd ever meet. You'd be hard pressed to find a more dedicated, professional and compassionate organization than the Panthers.

No matter what the outcome one thing that never wavers is PANTHER PRIDE. It's a great team who has given us an incredible season.

It’s not smack when you are only pointing out the obvious.

You should be proud of your team. The Panthers did far better than my team. I would dearly have loved to see my team in the Conference finals. You found out your team wasn’t going to the Super Bowl on Sunday. I found out that my team wasn’t going to the Super Bowl in October. So you already have me beat. I will admit openly that your team is far better than my team.

But since I am not attached emotionally to either the Seahawks or the Panthers, I am free to express what I consider a fairly objective opinion about this game. And that opinion is that Carolina was not only thoroughly embarrassed by a far superior team, they showed a distinct lack of heart in the midst of their embarrassment.

I can only hope that when my team makes it to the Conference finals again, they will heed Carolina’s performance in this game as a warning. It looks to me as if the Panthers bought their own hype. Hopefully next year Carolina will spend more time developing a little grit and less time reading about themselves in the sports pages.

Well, considering that I have far more insight into the team than most, I can tell you that you're way off target.

BTW, the Seattle game was the only one where a few sportscasters predicted a Panthers victory. Any Panthers fan can tell you that we're always considered the underdog. The running joke is that when the Panthers win, the coverage is about how lousy their opponent played and never how good the Panthers were.

This isn't a team of over hyped superstars. Their focus is the game of football, not being in Sports Illustrated.

Losing the division championship is a disappointment, but it's not too shabby to have been in contention.

If you really followed this team, you'd know that they put their hearts and souls into every game. :cheer2:

LOL, the Steelers know that pain. As a matter of fact, during sundays game (as we were beating the Broncos), the commentators were talking about what 'went wrong' in the game! ??? Um, wrong? Someone has to win. It gets old when the commentators so obviously favor specific teams and make it known, especially when 'their' team is losing.

You are absolutely right – being in contention is far better than not being in contention.

And you are right again, not being a Panther’s fan I never followed the team. So I can’t speak intelligently to how they have played throughout the season.

But having watched them play this past weekend I can state one thing with absolute authority: Carolina most definitely DID NOT play with their hearts and souls against the Seahawks. Maybe they intended to, I do not know. I do know that once the game was on they played like a team that was already beaten and looking for a way to put a stop to the slaughter.

Hopefully next year the Panthers will learn from this experience and resolve to play with their hearts and souls all the way through the playoffs - even when they go up against a superior team. Maybe then (win or lose) they will be able to walk away from the Conference Championship game with their pride intact and their heads held high.

Well, poohandwendy, looks like your going to see the other perspective in the Super Bowl. Every pundit out there is overwhelmingly picking the Steelers to prevail in the big game. Everybody who is anybody is making Pittsburgh their team.

Essentially all the pressure is on the Steelers. This is their championship to lose. Everybody loves Bettis and outside of Seattle everyone is going to be rooting for him to come up big in Detroit. Finally the Steelers are getting all the respect while their opponent is declared 2nd rate and unworthy. I think its fair to say that the Seahawks have about as much chance of beating the Steelers as the Steelers did of beating the Broncos. It is simply unfathomable that Pittsburgh could fail – not with all the sports writers being on their side like they are.

Hopefully, this means the Steelers won’t fall as far and as hard as Carolina did against the Seahawks. I’m just hoping for a good game. The last thing I want to see is the Steelers play with the heart and soul exhibited by the Panthers on Sunday.

Since we have been the underdog so many times, I really wish they wouldn't hype it up so much and make such distinctions between the teams like that. They both are worthy and IMO it will be a well matched game.

No matter what the 'professional commentators' say, I do not think anything is every unfathomable, that has been proven time and time again in sports. (like the thing about not having home field advantage during the playoffs) No one thought the Steelers or Seahawks would even be at the Super Bowl only weeks ago. And while I really, really want the Steelers to win, and I think they have what it takes, I am glad they will be going no matter what the outcome.

Just as much as people love Bettis, may people will also be rooting for Seattle because this is their first time there.

We and they deserve to be there, IMO, and I wish both teams the best of luck. It will be a hard win for whomever takes it, in my opinion.

Well MossMan, we're going to have to agree to disagree. No offense, but my son does more than sit in a recliner watching games, he's there. PANTHER PRIDE is alive and well, just as it was, just as it always will be. :thumbsup2

Good luck PoohandWendy!! The Steelers have a great team and you have to love Bettis. I hope you get that elusive Super Bowl trophy!! :cheer2:

I'll have to agree with you MossMan. There was something missing from the Panthers on Sunday. But I have to disagree that the Seahawks are a superior team, they were on that day but overall I don't think so. I'm not taking anything away from the 'Hawks, they played a heck of a game, but if the Panthers had brought their "A" game, I think it would have been a totally different outcome. Panthers fans, don't you have to admit that the whole team was just "off"? I KNOW our team is better than what they played on Sunday!!!!

The 'Hawks "pass rush" may have been the best in the league but look at the teams they played, they had one of the easiest schedules in all of football!!! I don't think that is what messed with Jake, he had plenty of time to throw the ball on most downs, just had one of those games. He had a few during the regular season too, that's how I knew the game was over in the first quarter. Plus I have to question some of their play calls. Not to mention that we had NO running game to open up the passing game!

I love my team, you'd be hard pressed to find people with more Panther Pride than my husband and I. I also respect the players, I think they are a great bunch of guys!!!!

I'm rooting for the Steelers. Bettis should have a Superbowl ring when he retires!!!

The only good thing about the Panthers losing is that I won't be stressed out watching the SB!

I definitely agree. I knew we were in trouble in the first couple of minutes of the game.

Oh well...there's always next year!
