Does anyone have any advice on how to get rid of gnats, from my kitchen? I left bananas out on the counter last week that were over ripe and now I just can't get rid of them. We set off those bug spray things (where you have to leave the house for 4 hours) and that didn't work:scared1: I cleaned the kitchen down with bleach today, and threw all the garbage out today as we got it.

The only thing that helps, really, is time. Just make sure everything that might attract them is put away in sealed containers or in the refrigerator; throw out your garbage immediately. Once their source of food is gone, they'll die. It only takes a couple of days to get rid of them.

Sorry you have to deal with this.

Put out a small bowl of red wine with a drop or two of dishwashing liquid in it-stir. They will dive right in and die. We had tons of fruitflies over the summer athis is how we got rid of them. I found this on Youtube.

apple cider vinegar and a few drops of dish washing liquid...

I had an infestation about a month ago and I used every tip I got on these boards. Everything worked a little and some worked really well. The hanging fly strips really worked but had to be in the perfect place so we experimented. The red wine/balsamic with soap worked mildly well. The bleach down the sink seemed to have a medium result.
I bagged every food item in my pantry and on my counter in zip locs. I scoured my kitchen on a daily basis-sometimes twice. I am down to one darn fly which I saw last night. I told my husband and my son to stay vigilant. Out came the vinegar and I hung the last fly strip. It had been several days since I'd seen one. Good luck!

Try some bleach in your drains, I believe they breed in there.

They do breed in your drains. I called the bug man years ago when we had a problem with them, and he said to boil water several times a day and pour it down your drains. I did this even in the bathrooms and everything. within a few days they were gone. Nothing else worked for me except boiling the water and pouring it down all of the drains in the house. Try it. :):thumbsup2

Yes I am desperate to get rid of them, I am having Thanksgiving dinner at my house this year.

Thank you everyone I have tried a few of your suggestions and I notice less of them. I will keep working on it.

You have to wash everything in all your cabinets now that you used that poison. Did you take all the food out of the house before you set it off?
