Gluten free

Since our last December trip, I was diagnosed with celiacs I'm not too thrilled, but I know many on this board are gluten sensitive and have had great success in Disney.

So I am wondering if anyone is gluten free and dined at any of these restaurants OR counter service? If you can give me tips on what was good, I'd appreciate it.

I am gluten free and was at WDW in January. The only restaurant (on your list) that I ate at was Kona Cafe for lunch. We had the DxDP, so I had three courses.

I had the Kona salad (without the blue cheese - some people with Celiac eat blue cheese, some don't. I just don't like it!).

My main meal was the Grilled Teriyaki Steak with Grilled Pineapple Salsa (I got extra vegetables instead of the macaroni salad). It was very tasty. I cannot remember if the teriyaki sauce was gluten free, or if I had no sauce (I did have the salsa).

They had a gluten free chocolate cake for dessert. I *think* it was the standard Kilauea Torte (I don't think it was a special gluten free dessert).

All in all, I had great experiences. I'd post over on the DISabilities forum for more opinions.

I'm gluten free and ate at some of the restaurants on your list

Captain's Grille - I love this restaurant, they're always very accomodating (as are most of the Disney restaurants), I'm usually pretty boring and have the same thing, caesar salad (minus the crutons) for my appetiser, chicken and french fries for my main.

Tutta Italia - this is now my favourite after a great lunch last year. Mozzarella and tomatoes for appetiser, followed by gluten free pasta 'caprese' for my main. They offered to make any of the pasta dishes for me with gluten free pasta - it was soooo good. A nice touch was them bringing out gluten free bread (instead of the horrible tapioca rolls elsewhere) so I could dip in the oil they server the 'normal' bread with.

Grand Floridian Cafe - I wasn't sure what to have for breakfast so they put together a selection for me including gluten free waffles, breakfast potatoes, bacon, eggs, fruit.

First, email special diets and they will send you lots of info. You will likely have an opportunity to speak with a chef who will direct you to what you can eat and sometimes they will make you something special that is not on the menu.

I like this blog. Not sure if all of your restaurants are in here but it has good info. But, always double check when you get to the restaurant in case something has changed.

I had no problem eating gluten free and my son had no problems eating dairy free. Next visit we have to add tomatoes to our list of forbidden foods for DS. But I'm sure we will still have plenty of choices. Disney is very accommodating.

I was hoping Grand Floridian would do the lobster benedict for breakfast without the english muffin??? Anyone know? OTherwise I may just cancel this one
