Gluten Free Options Outside the Parks?

This will be our first trip to DLR when we've had to eat gluten-free. I don't love Disneyland food....although I'm sure we'll probably resort to the gluten-free offerings inside the parks several times strictly for convenience.

We have 9 days in the parks on this trip. Normally, our go-to place off-site is El Pollo Loco because it's quick, good, relatively healthy, and all of my kids will eat it. And while the regular chicken is gluten-free...they don't take special precautions to prevent cross-contamination, so we can't really eat there (my oldest son is really just beginning to get "well" for the first time in several years thanks to a gluten-free diet, and I would love to avoid any mishaps because they set him back for a couple of weeks).

I'll be doing a lot of grocery shopping and bringing plenty of foods in to the parks...but it sure would be nice to be able to rely on some restaurants too, just for convenience (:sad1:I'm supposed to be on vacation - I would love to NOT have to spend so much time/thought preparing foods to bring in).

Any other celiacs out there....what are your go-to places outside the parks?

We rarely take my Celiac kids out to eat anymore. It's just too risky with cross contamination and all. Other than the gluten free restaurants we go to, DL has been the only place they've been able to eat out. I did read on a celiac message board, though, that In N Out is relatively safe. There is no breading that goes in the fryers with the fries and you can have the burger on lettuce and they grill the buns in a separate area of the grill, so less risk of cc. We never went, so I can't guarantee that this info. is right, but it's an option to look into.

My BFF has Celiac's (actually dining out with my 2 BFF's is always hard because 1 has Celiac's and 1 has a dairy allergy LOL) and she eats at PF Chang's (they have a good GF menu) and she loves to eat at CPK, the salads are GF and very very good!! Those are the only 2 places that come to mind for the DL area though. :)

My DH has to have a gluten free diet, and I've downloaded an app that is wonderful for this situation!

It's Find Gluten Free and it's available on itunes, I'm not sure about Android.

When I put in the address for the HoJo (where we're staying), it brings up Rainforest Cafe, Tortilla Jo's, P.F Changs, Joe's Crab Shack, etc...
It has a direct link to all their gluten free menus as well. It's a great app, I'd recommend it.

I plan on using this a LOT when we head out to DL.

For any Windows Phone users out there, there is an app in Beta - Eatfindr that lets you enter allergens (gluten, soy, nut, etc.) and finds restaurants in your area - great tool!!

For each, if you do go there, you can indicate a thumbs up/down for whether the avilable options were any good.
