Gluten Free on the Dream

Hi all. Just wondering about how the gluten free options are on the dream. Also, how do I put that on my ressie. The dietary restrictions I saw to check off didn't include gluten free as an option. Thanks to anyone in the know! My first cruise! I know WDW does great at gluten free options, but also don't want to be limited to the same old at each meal. I can typically work around it (not an allergy, more of an intolerance), but also don't want to spend my nights sick on the toilet.

We had our TA put gluten allergy in our reservation.

We spoke to the Head Server when we got to our first dinner and he was already aware of it. They told us which offerings were available gluten-free. We were also able to see the menu for the following evening and they were able to specially prepare almost any of the meals as long as they had enough lead time.

After 17 Disney Cruises, for the first time we will have a gluten free member in our party when we sail next week. I'm curious to see how this will go, however since we have always had to deal with a peanut allergy, and DCL handles that wonderfully, I'm guessing this will work out well. We just called DCL and had them note it on our reservation.

I've noticed that, too, and it is annoying. It's such a common dietary restriction, I don't know why they don't have it listed as an option. You can just call them and tell them to put it on your ressie, though.

I was able to select it during the on-line check in process, or at least say I had dietary restrictions being gluten. They knew it from the first meal and were super accommodating; always having gluten free bread at the dinner table etc.

Ok. Thanks. So maybe at that point I can add it to the reservation.

Did they have good gluten free dessert options and pastas?
Sometimes......but I did find myself eating the Mickey Head ice cream bars.... I believe the creme brûlée was okay to have. They will accomadate and bring you any gluten free option even if it's not on the menu.

With ice cream available all the time, I am hoping for some other types of desserts from dinner. Fingers crossed.

At least I know I've got the Mickey Bar option. On Royal Caribbean this summer I got so sick of pudding or mousse I actually did a little happy dance when Baked Alaska was on the menu.:banana::banana:

Are there gluten free pasta or pizza options as well? I know most places at WDW had gf pizza choices...

Your best option would be to call and let DCL know now and have it added to your reservation.

The more lead time they have the better they can prepare (e.g. ensuring they have ordered enough GF breads and other items, etc).

On both the Dream and the Fantasy I have had them make me pizza that was allergy-safe for me (I am not GF, but have multiple severe food allergies). On each ship they used Udi's pizza crusts, which are GF -- they actually showed me the Udi's package, so that is how I know what they were :-)

So, while not a guarantee, one can ASK and they may be able to do it. I have read of at least one child even getting an allergy-safe in one of the MDR for lunch, so pre-ordering it might be an option that would make it possible, too.

The key I have found is to be flexible and reasonable, and to ask. Worst case it cannot be done, best case you get a wonderful meal.

I was wondering why gluten free wasn't on the online reservation. Thanks for the info about calling and looking at the next nights menu.

i found the DCL app was really helpful for meal planning: i could browse the menus at my leisure during the day so when it came time to order i already knew what i wanted.

I would complete the special services form and send it in before your cruise. Here's a link to the form: https://wdpromedia.disney.go.com/me...sabilities/SpecialServicesInformationForm.pdf

When you board the ship, there will be dining services folks in one of the MDRs to deal with seating changes, time changes, and the like. They are also available to discuss your gluten free requirements (or any special diet issues) and make arrangements for that night's dinner. The navigator will list the specific location (it's usually on the front page, lower left side). For the Dream it's typically held in Royal Court. Our experience is that they will make sure your food issue is noted in your reservation and will call the head server/chef to make sure they have an appropriate meal for you that first night.
