Gluten Free in the MDR

I am perplexed as to why they are not offering her the allergy menus. I am allergic to both gluten and dairy and have not even glanced at the regular menu once in the four cruises we’ve done since Covid alone, and not once have I been asked for a preorder, except for Cookies at Castaway. That sort of inconsistency is frustrating because she could be having a far better experience.

However, we haven’t been on the Magic or the Wonder. Is it possible that those are the ships you’ve been sailing on?

Which ships have you sailed on that had allergy menus in the covid era ?

We are ana milk, tree nuts, peanut, fish and shellfish and avoid a number of other foods. Our last cruise was a B2B2B on the Dream in December 2019. They had just come out with the allergy menus on the Dream, and it was by far our best dining experience. We pre-ordered all 3 meals at dinner and used a combination of the normal menu and the allergy menus. We found that particularly with a milk allergy the allergy menus alone are rather limiting, so using the combination was the best option, as some of the main menu items could be safely modified that were not on the alllergy menu. Also, sometimes an allergy menu item that was not listed as safe could be made safe with an easy modification. But all of that required pre-ordering, otherwise my choices were *very* limited.

We will be going on an Alaska cruise on the Wonder soon and have already gone through the menus and decided what we want for each meal... to be honest, with the amount of fish/seafood on the menu, our choices are pretty limited anyway and most of the menu does not appeal to us, so it is pretty easy choosing :-) So pre-ordering is going to be easy and since it means we get a broader range of choices (eg being able to have our favourite soups), we much prefer it.

The Dream (once) and the Wish (three times)

Your experience may be an artifact of those two specific ships. The Dream was the first to roll out allergy menus, in late 2019. The Wish also got them. I don't know if they ever actually came to any of the other ships, especially with the supply issues they have been having with allergy-friendly items; I know Wonder never got them.

That’s exactly what I was thinking, too!

We’ve never been offered an allergy menu (nuts) just pre-ordered the night before 🤷🏻‍♀️ Fantasy/Dream/Wish since restart
