My mother and sister are both on a gluten free diet (no wheat, rye, oats, barley, etc). they get sick if they eat anything with this stuff, so it's always a long process to get them what they need (but much better than having them be throwing up for the rest of the night)

We've always had a very positive experiance every time we've gone to disney. Highlights were getting gluten free brownie sundaes at the rose and crown, gluten free creme bruille at planet hollywood, and gluten free fried chicken (yes i said FRIED CHICKEN; they clean out the friers and everything for even just one order. takes longer but well worth it) at the fifties prime time cafe.

Im starting this thread for those of us who have or know someone who has a gluten allergy. Post your favorite gluten free disney experiances here!!! Thank you!!!:woohoo::woohoo::woohoo:

at Crystal Palace the size of my head. It was HUGE and delicious and I asked twice to be sure it was safe for me to eat (No dairy for me, but gluten free stuff is very often dairy free)

I also had fabulous gluten free, dairy free pancakes at the POP food court (took forever to make though) and gluten free/dairy free mickey waffles at Chef Mickeys. Safe mickey waffles!! At Crystal Palace they serve Van's waffles, which are tasty but not Mickey Waffles.

My MIL had gluten free food made for her at Teppan Edo and they had gluten free soy sauce.

I avoid all dairy and get gluten free by association so these were just meals that happened to be free of both.

MMara, at AKL made the best gf chicken tenders!! They were fantastic! Alot of the counter service rest. have gf buns and can sub them for bread on a sandwich, burger or as a side. My 4 yo grandson wanted grilled cheese once and pizza. Neither was a problem.

Just wanted to thank you for starting this thread. We recently found out that 2 of our kids have food allergies. One of them is allergic to gluten and dairy, the other one is allergic to oats, corn, dairy, and eggs. We won't be going to WDW til November, but I'm hoping that there will be plenty of things for them to eat. I hate eating things they enjoy in front of them.

Haha no problem!!!

Dont worry disney is fantastic about gluten free. Most places will let you talk directly to the chefs about choices and what special things they can do. Plus if youre at a buffet theyll even walk you through the line to show what you can and cant eat. Its great!!!

I just have to say when we took our milk/soy allergic (then 2 year old) son to WDW, the chefs went out of their way to make my son feel special and make us feel comfortable with what he could eat. They walked through the buffets with us and told us what he could eat. he LOVED the choclate cake at Crystal palace and the GF waffles at Hollywood & Vine. I felt so safe bringing him there.

I'm not Gluten-Free, but DSIL is and she just got back from WDW in March. She said Le Cellier was the best meal she's ever had. They even made her gluten-free bread (I'm assuming the pretzel bread). She said it was one of the best bread she's ever had! At every restaurant, the chef came out and met with her to tell her what she can eat, etc.

My son has Asperger's and is on a GF/CF diet. At every table service location, the chefs went out of their way to accommodate him.

Chef Mickey's--chef took us to the buffet and pointed out several GF/CF choices, then made him a plate of salmon and broccoli, gave him two pieces of bread, made him a plate of fries, and gave him a cupcake and vanilla ice cream. Whew!

The Wave--chef made my son (who was 9) the adult portion of the fish of the day...was it sea bass? I know it was expensive, and they only charged us for a child's plate...and made him a special dessert.

Le Cellier--I have no idea what the chef made for him because DS was at the other end of the table and ate it so fast that I didn't even SEE it!!! :rotfl2:

'Ohana breakfast--chef made him a HUGE GF/CF portion of everything on the table.

'Ohana dinner--again, major accommodations of everything on the table.

Every single restaurant was just fantastic. The chef at Chef Mickey's was outstanding, and I wrote a note about him in appreciation.

I would suggest going to the disABILITIES Forum and look at Post #3 of the disABILITIES FAQs. There is a large section in that post dealing with special dietary needs, as well as many related links. You can get directly to the disABILITIES FAQs by following the link in my signature.

This is a very common topic of discussion in the disABILITIES Forum.

If you go to the disabilities section of the boards there is a thread at the top, it will talk about all different food allergies and such, there you will find a link to Brenda Bennett at disney. She is wounderful and will give you all of the info needed.

Like others have said...

We just got back from WDW and it was the best place for my husband, who cannot eat gluten.

So, like others have said - the chefs do come out at every table service. You can even get gluten free buns at some counter service places, but be warned, it takes forever.

So - our best experience was at the Garden Grill. My husband asked for a gluten free beer and they didn't have any there, but the MANAGER went to Sunshine Seasons and got him a Redbridge beer. He was so excited because even the garden grocer couldn't find any gluten free beer for him!

My dad has to eat gluten free stuff, and from what I know already, Disney will have options for your mom and sister. :thumbsup2

Thank you for this thread. My daughter is autistic and when we visited Disney three years ago, they were wonderful with her then GFCF diet. Last time we visited, she had no dietary restrictions in place.

Fast forward to this visit and I was recently diagnosed with celiacs. So now I am the one going to be gluten free. I'm pretty nervous as I love my food :)

Disboards are AWESOME! Thank you, everyone, for posting the helpful info and experiences. Your stories of Disney's magic for GF persons make me cry, as usual, but just the fact that you Dissers post them makes me appreciate you, too. :) I'm so excited to tell my GF friend about the wonderful options available for her when she makes her first trip to WDW on a girls-only trip! yay!!
