Did you have any problem with any of the resturants that you visited bringing bread items to your table for anyone in your party not needing a gluten free diet?

This actually reminds me of an incident my friend had last week at a local restaurant.

They wouldn't let him bring a gluten free roll for his hamburger. Very sad to hear.

Of course they wouldn't do this at Disney, though.

I'm allergic to all dairy beef and eggs, and have never had such a wonderful dining experience as I did when I was at WDW last August! Actually being able to have dessert at a restaurant is not something that I'm use to as I cant eat most baked goods that have eggs milk or butter in them. The chefs at the WDW restaurants didn't think anything of getting me soy ice cream or gluten free dairy free brownies...It was a dream come true!

It truly is awesome. I have to say it was a shock when we were in the airport food court and I could eat very little. I can't take for granted how great people with allergies have it at WDW.

These are great reviews and tips. I am trying to help someone who is planning their first trip to WDW and has celiac disease, so this is great to read. So you tell them about the allergy when you make the reservation and then you call again on the day you are actually eating there? Is that how it works?

Sort of. When you make the reservation on the phone, or in the rare case of making it once your already at WDW, just tell them that you have an allergy to gluten, and they will mark it down. On the day of the reservation, just go to the resteraunt at normal time. Once you are seated, the person who led you to your seat will ask which person has the allergy, and they will tell a chef to come over. The chefs, who are all incredibly helpful and knowledgeable, will ask you what you are in the mood for, or what is on the menu that you are looking to order. 9 times out of 10 they will be able to make what you ask, and they will probably have either gluten free bread or a gluten free desert to accompany the entree.

As long as you just indicate it when making the original reservation, you will have no problem. Enjoy your trip, and tell your friend that they have absolutely nothing to worry about. Every meal I ate at WDW, both at my resort and the parks and DTD were all easy and perfectly gluten free without a doubt in my mind.

Thank you so much for your wonderful review. This is something that I am just starting to deal with in my life. I am so glad that there will be plenty of choices for me on our next trip. I have always been able to eat anything that I wanted to and now I can't.

Don't worry. The transition may seem hard at first, but after a few weeks you'll start to get it. Heck, I only found out about my celiac in Late January 2007, and I talk about it now like I've had it for years.

When I first was diagnosed, I couldn't deal with the fact that I couldn't order some of my favorite foods, and that I couldn't be with friends and order normally.

Don't worry.

This all will pass and everything will be fine. Comfort yourself with the fact that this disease has a cure that will keep you health: just follow the diet and everything will be fine.

I know they have divvies products, www.divvies.com (really great gluten, dairy, nut free chocolate bunnies for Easter! Jelly beans too) at WDW but does anyone remember the brand name for the brownies? They were yummy! I remember a chef told us we could order them online...

BTW you can get those brownies for a snack credit at the food courts, and kettle corn popcorn, jelly beans, and cookies too. All allergy safe.

OT but please say "Hi !" to Nessie for me. My "great" aunt Margaret lives in Glasgow and when I was 8 she sent me a book on Nessie for my birthday. So Nessie has a soft spot in my heart.

It's nice to hear they are so accommodating! We have recently been given food restrictions (low-fat and low-sodium) that I was worried about, but not after your review!

Hi! 2 of my daughters have celiac disease too and we had a great experience at WDW in August. As far as counter services go, Cosmic Rays took forever but we did end up with GF hot dog and hamburger buns so my girls were very happy! We also ate at the food court at POR, Pizza Planet, Pizzafari, Pinocchio Village Haus and fries at Casey's Corner. We had TS meals at Cinderella's Royal Table, CRystal Palace, Liberty Tree Tavern, Hollywood & Vine, Akershus, and Chef Mickey's. They all were fabulous. PM me if you want detailed information. Also, referring to the brownies, there is a brand called "It's Ok" they had at MAin Street bakery (and I think a few other places). They also had GF star-shaped rice krispie treats as well. Not having to worry about all the meals made our trip magical, that's for sure!

I'm so glad everyone is benefiting from the information. Its important not to let something like a food allergy prohibit you from going to such a place like Disney. If anyone else has any more questions, don't hesitate to ask them.

FYI I don't know the official policy but we were on the dining plan and never charged anything extra for my DD meals. Often it would come from the adult menu as they did not have appropriate childrens meals. They only charged a childs credit.

Yeah I actually thought about this when we were there. I guess if they can't provide you a child's meal that they really can't charge you extra. It wouldn't be a very "Disney" thing to do.
