Gluten-free at WDW...my experience

We just returned from WDW and stayed at CBR. Many restaurants were very accomodating for gluten-free requests. I have celiac disease and it was easy to eat where my family wanted to.

At CBR, chef would come out and take my order. They make it in a gluten-free area (grill, etc). Their gluten-free hamburger and hot dog buns were pretty good. You do have to wait a few more minutes for these orders. The counter service restaurants at the parks will do the same.

Other places that were very good: Teppan Edo (Epcot), Wolfgang Puck Express (DTD), and T-Rex (DTD).

Thanks for sharing! Just an FYI: If you liked the buns, you can buy them yourself for at home. They're the basic Ener-G buns.

We went last summer and DS thought it was the best. He has Celiac too and was so happy not to worry about food choices or feeling left out when eating.

My favorite gluten-free meal at WDW has GOT to be the Chicken strips with a side of fries at Colombia Harbor House in Magic Kingdom. I'm sure the chicken is offered in other locations other than just here... but they are AMAZING. :)

At Cosmic Rays, I normally get the Rotisserie Chicken with the Mashed Potatoes and Greenbeans. I can never finish it though. So much food!!

Thank you for sharing this. My GP/GI told me he thinks I may have CD. I dont want a biopsy done, so we are starting with me changing my diet to see if the reflux will go away.

Thanks for the reviews! It's always great to hear that WDW is keeping up on their standards. I second the allergy free chicken strips. I just had them at the American Inn in Epcot and they are so yummy! :thumbsup2

My son also has Celiac Disease and we've had wonderful experiences with him eating at Disney. He has also had great chicken tenders at ABC Commissary in Hollywood Studios. We found last year that when going to counter service eateries the best thing to do is order for your party member who has CD first. It kind of threw the cashier off if you waited to order for them. This way they can bring out the chef and get your order going while you order for the rest of your party. The buffets were wonderful too ... the chef would come out and walk us through the buffet and point out what was safe and then offer to make anything he might want.

Thank you for sharing your experience. We've been to DL with our son who has gluten intolerance many times and have good experiences but this Dec. will be the first time since we discovered it and going to WDW. It will make things so much easier going somewhere that accommodates it.

We just got back from Disney World and had I wonderful time. My wife has Celiac and so both of us eat gluten-free. The only time we had a problem, was at Earl of Sandwich (I had gotten mixed up, and thought we were going to Wolfgang Puck, but with the pouring rain, we got lost). They had no g-f bread and only a few salads. They were polite, but obviously could not be bothered with strange requests.

On the other hand, Mama Melrose was fantastic. We had a reservation with the Fantasmic show, and Chef Frank was just remarkable. He made a special dessert for us to share (which would have worked for a family of three or four, rather than just the two of us), and then the server came out with small glasses of champagne to toast our anniversary! One of the highlights of a great trip!

Have you had the blood test? My GI originally did that and then would do the biopsy depending on the results. I ended up not getting the biopsy because my counts were "extradorinarily high."
