We will be headed to Disney and one day of Universal next month. This will be the first trip we have made since my mother switched to a gluten free diet. We will most likely be eating counter service meals for lunch and dinner. What are your favorites gluten free options?

Gluten free is wonderful in Disney! They really make it easy. I had great meals at BOG, Tusker House, H&V, Akershus....love the Mickey waffles for breakfast!

I have a gluten allergy and I was really worried about this when we started planning our trip. There's a great blog out there (I don't have the link handy)- I think it's called Alexis' Gluten Free Adventures (or something similar). She reviews every restaurant, I think. I was able to get a thorough review for all of the places that I have reservations at. I've gotten sick at SO many restaurants near me, after being assured I'm getting a GF meal, that I was nervous. I do NOT want to be sick in Disney!

Love Alexis! Great reviews from her. It was easier for me to eat at Disney than at home.

I have celiac disease and had no trouble eating at WDW. We only did counter service on my last trip, so I can't speak to the TS, but from what I hear that is easy too. The only issue I ran into is that you have to wait for a manager before you can place your order and that means waiting in the long lines just to get to ask for the manager then waiting until the manager is free to come talk to you. But all of my food was safely GF and I never had a reaction to anything.

Definitely plan for longer waits at CS. It was not unusual to wait for more than 15 minutes for allergy friendly food. They were always good and safe, but it was not quick.

Disney is wonderful with accommodating food allergies. I've enjoyed many gluten free meals there!

The quick service choices are safe and taste good, but they will be more sandwich/burgers/ salads, etc. Stand out quick services for me are Flame Tree in AK, Sunshine Seasons in Epcot and BOG lunch in MK (roast beef on millet bread). I also find great choices in Epcot during Food and Wine and Flower and Garden. They have the gluten free options listed on the menus.

I would recommend that if you can spring for it, try at least one or two table service meals. Those are where Disney really shines with their gluten free options. My favorite table service restaurants are: Raglan Road, DS, (gf fish and onion rings are amazing!), Bongos, DS (skirt steak), Sanaa, AK lodge (bread service and butter chicken), Biergarten Epcot (buffet- we visit each trip), Spice Road table, Epcot (rack of lamb, mixed grill skewers), O'hana breakfast, Poly (mickey waffles, eggs, potatoes). Table service lunch is usually cheaper than dinner.

Something I try not to miss is the fried chicken at the 50's Diner at Hollywood Studios.

You have to preorder it. I stop by a couple of hours before my reservation and let them know that I will be placing an order when I am there. I think they have to start heating the fryer or something. Either way, it is delicious and not something I can ever find while eating out.

Also, stop by quick service at French Quarter. It is worth the drive to have their gluten free Beignets. Those you don't have to preorder. Just walk in and order them. My mouth is watering in anticipation of November. Yum.

All of these are TS and the OP asked about CS.

Disney is great with Gluten Free. But as others have stated, at CS you will end up waiting a bit for your food.
I agree with the suggestion to include one or two TS meals. Disney does shine with Gluten Free there.
Have Fun!!!

Sassagoula is closed for refurb now, and set to open in the Fall. Not sure when the opening date is. I *thought* I read somewhere that Scat Cat lounge will have have some grab and go items and some prepared items. I would double check if the gf beignets are on that list. The gf beignets are good.

Thanks for all the suggestions, will definitely have her check out the blogs! Looks like she will have plenty of choices.

According to those that have been there, the gluten free beignets are on the list.
