On my back beside/under my right shoulder blade I have a knotted muscle. It started annoying me about a week ago and now I'm in total agony! I've tried everything I can think of, aspirin, advil, muscle relaxers, creams, heat, ice, massages - even booze to try to ease the pain. Nothing has helped. Tonight I was so deperate that I busted into the pain pills my husband was prescribed last week when he had a wisdom tooth removed. That was two hours ago. Still no relief! :sad2: Does anyone know of SOMETHING, ANYTHING, that might help? :confused3

Yup, that muscle under the shoulder blade is a tough one to get to. Good luck. My chiropractor usually has to work on that one for me.

I know the spot, is your arm affected? Sounds like you have tried many different methods for relief and it isnt working. Could be a muscle, tendon or not. Maybe a rotator cuff injury, they can be quite painful. At this point your pain is dibilitating and its time to see an ortho and have it looked at.

Ice may bring some relief. I hope you get some relief very soon.

Do you still have your gall bladder? I sounds like fairly typical pain for that too. Is it constant or worse after you eat?

I would check in with your doctor tomorrow.....you need to eliminate something medical before you assume it is muscle. Good luck

I am pretty sure it's a muscle. It's near the top of my shoulder blade and when someone rubs it really hard it feels better for a minute - but only a minute.

Have you tried soaking in the tub? I've had a lot of shoulder troubles and I can usually get some relief by soaking in water as hot as I can stand it.

Thanks for your replys. I've decided that I'm going to call in sick tomorrow and call my doctor's office and see if they can give me a cortisone shot or something. It feels silly to call in sick over a knot in my shoulder but it hurts so much there is no way I'd get any work done. :guilty:

Not silly. I'd call, too. Hope you feel better soon! :sunny:

I get the same knot with stress. My DH has to push really hard on the knot and rub until well honestly sometimes I cry. Also while rubbing he will lift my arm and rotate it in a circle and something usually pops. It is very painful. Good luck.

Hopefully, the doctor will be able to give you something to help it. Half a Flexeril usually helps me with it--also I took a yoga class and the stretching has helped tremendously. (Obviously, that's for future reference.) I hardly ever get back pain as badly as I used to since I started doing the stretches.

Wow, it sounds like what happens to me. I have bone spurs in my cervical spine and all you need is for things to shift just a tiny bit and that spur lays right on the spinal cord.

A PT taught me this trick to loosen up the muscles. Get a tennis ball (yes really! :teeth: ), lay on the floor and put the ball under the area that's the sorest. With gentle but firm pressure, push into the tennis ball and hold it there for as long as you can or until you feel some relief. It will hurt when you first start but you've already said you feel better after someone massages it. You can also do this by pushing the area against the wall when two walls meet and form a corner.

The muscles are in spasm and the tennis ball and/or the wall procedure helps release them. Keep taking aspirin too if you can.

Good luck with this. I really know how much it hurts. :grouphug:

I'd be amazed if any doctor gave you a cortisone shot for that. It's a muscle knot/spasm.

Go to a chiropractor or masseuse and let them work it out.

Sounds like a perfect excuse to treat yourself to a massage. You can ask the massage therapist to work mostly on that spot.

I second the tennis ball suggestion; that works wonders!

Yes, yes, yes :sunny:

I'm a massage therapist, so I can wholeheartedly concur!

Find someone who knows neuromuscular massage. We have some tricks to get into that muscle (sounds like subscapularis). It will likely take several massages to work out the problem, so don't write it off if after one massage you are not feeling better.

Don't mean to be gloomy, but go see your doctor. I know two people who had a pain like that. Both ended up having tumours that had wrapped around nerves and muscles in the area. I'm not saying you have a tumour, but that you should get things checked out just in case something more serious is going on. You can do more damage to yourself by self treating some times.

If it's muscle pain, skip the doctor and go to the chiropractor.

I have the same type of pain, but on the left side. Tomorrow I am going for a therapuetic massage - I know it will probably hurt, but in the end I will hopefully feel better.

Good thoughts for both of us!! :goodvibes

I had that same pain last month. Nothing could get rid of it. Then we moved into a house with a pool. I have been floating and it has worked wonders. My back and shoulder was hurting so bad that if I rolled over in my sleep, I woke up crying. Now it is still a little sore but nothing like it was.

I have no suggestions, but :grouphug:

You have me in discomfort because I have that crappy ole HeeHaw song stuck in my head now! :teeth:
