Globespan Problems

We don't have any particular axe to grind about Globespan, but thought we would tell you this tale about my Mum & Dad who just returned from Canada with Globespan.

They flew from Manchester to Hamilton 6 weeks ago, flying P.E (or whatever GS equivilant is) and everything was perfect, this was around the time everyone was complaining about GS and we were tempted to post saying how good they had been.

Then came the return trip, they should have landed at 8.40am Thursday and finally landed at 14.15. The problem their direct flight had to land in New York to pick up stranded passengers. This is what they were told at check-in, what really happened was GS decided they didn't have enough passengers in New York to fill a flight so thought it was more cost effective to divert the Hamilton Flight to New York to pickup a few more.

On landing in New York, they all had to disembark from the plane and then go through immigration. This took 3 hours (they were told by an immigration official that had they been informed they would have been landing they could have staffed up to cope with this but Globespan neglected until the last moment to let them know).

Now for the best bit they filled in their green visa waiver form, got through immigration, collected cases and had to go and check back in. Cases taken they made their way to the gate at which point the Visa Waiver was taken off them, so they held it for a full hour.

One guy on their flight was refused entry has he had an entry restriction on his file and was sent back to Canada, with him protesting he never wanted to come into the US.

After eventually landing back at Manchester it turned out that everyone who was on the original flight, their luggage didn't turn up only the ones they had diverted to pickup.

They finally contacted GS today who said it would be Tuesday (6 days late) before they get their luggage back.

I know we were thinking of using them in October to go to New York, now not so sure. :confused3

Horrendous, but some interesting points.

If you were flying "through" New York why did you have to disembark?

Why were your bags taken off the aeroplane?

Did you embark on a different aeroplane with the "stranded" passengers?

Or:

Was there something more sinister?

You had to land to remove someone from the flight to return them to Canada?:scared1:

Richard,
If it was an unauthorised stop in the USA, then no arrangements would have been in place to agree they were transit passengers?

When I say unnauthorised I mean an unusual stop not a standard flight route.

As they had entered the USA, they would have had to go through customs.

I would have thought that the bins which hold the luggage might have been offloaded to put the NY bags into them, maybe had to be unloaded to reweigh the bins? perhaps one was left at the loading station??

The route would have been over the atlantic, not down to NY in normal cases surely?

Obi is right, because it was an unauthorised stop, so they had to disembark, unload luggage and go through customs. The full monty, if Globespan had let New York know earlier they would have been classed as transit passengers but seeing they thought they could use it as a Bus service and go round and pickup a few extra passengers to save money it backfired on them.

Its strange that all the luggage for the original flight didn't make it back (it has now, its in Stansted not Manchester) only the luggage of the guys who got on in New York made it back to Manchester.

As for the guy sent back, that was just pure bad luck for him, he had no wish to fly into the US and was supposed to be on a direct Manchester to Hamilton flight.

So as we said earlier don't think we will try the Liverpool to New York route in October as we could end up anywhere :rotfl:

just a quick update, but at least true to their word all the bags turned up today.:thumbsup2
