Global Warming

You guys call me what you want.

I believe in Global Warming, I just don't believe it's going on now, or will go on for a long time.

I believe we're just trying to find someone/something to blame for our destruction.

I think we're just putting too much importance upon ourselves.

What if...gasp, we ARN'T the center of all things.

What do these mean?:
ITA.

QFE.

Oh and LoL MuNkY! Sorry BabyPiglet.

If I wrote a response to this, it'd flame Bush, and the total idiotness of some people.

alright, well like it or not global warming is a reality,
obviously since the industrial revolution our world has been turned upside down.
all these toxins we are releasing into the air must be in some way affecting us, there's not way they couldn't! That my friends, is global warming.

The depletion of the ozone layer, melting ice caps, extreme smog warnings, snow in mid-april, summer-equse days in mid-january?
that my friends, is thanks to all the pollution and poinsons we have been releasing for the past 100 + years, into our Earth's atmosphere.

And I DO think it is our concern, sure the longterm effects won't affect us directly, but it is effecting those around us, polar bears are becoming endangered among many other animals!

Radicals like Rush Limbaugh who are trying to convince people that global warming isn't real are nuts. It IS reality, our world is changing, there is no denying that.
Since when do we have "extreme heat alerts" in the summer?
We are encouraged to STAY inside on those days so we don't get so badly burned. I'm sure that wasn't a problem 100 years ago, or even 50 for that matter.
And "smog warnings"....people with breathing problems CAN'T BREATH PROPERLY on days with extreme smog. Pollution.

I'm sure as humans we can adapt to the changes, just as we have adpated and evolved so much since the stone age.

But even if you don't care about animals, or the future or global warming in general, I really think, just to have a greener, more beautiful planet, it wouldn't hurt us at all to flick off our light switches, or not spit our guk on the sidewalk, or recycle.

just my opinion.

Yes we are doing something to our Earth. To the atmosphere.

But people don't realize HOW LONG it will take to destroy our atmosphere.

i DO realize how long it will take.

i just don't understand why we can't all just do SIMPLE things like turn off lights switches when we aren't using them, or use energy efficient lightbulbs, or recycle or ditch the car when you can walk.
i mean...it's not going to kill us just to do simple things like that?

Hmm.
I'm kind of sick of global warming... I know it's an issue, but heck, if someone goes on about stuff too long, you lose my patience.

There was once a quote in a Smart Guy episode that went something like this:

"It's big, it's hot, but it just doesn't say PARTY OVER HERE."

[Ignore the party part]

I'm to the point, I'm not sure if I care anymore.

Although, wet & dry garbage sorting should be mandatory. Eliminating plastic grocery bags is good idea (a local grocery store sells these plastic crates that you put on the grocery cart and put your items in there, and they stay like that even after you bring them to the cash. No plastic bags required.).

I'll post a picture of one later, I cannot find one on the net right now.

I never once said we shouldn't be doing that stuff.

Oh, I misunderstood.

I recycle, turn the lights off and stuff.

I drive places when I need to.

Dear Tim,
I have been researching a lot about a topic called Global Warming. I think that this topic is very real and serious issue that faces our only home, Earth. I would like to share my research with you so that way you can realize the horrible reality of this concern.
To start with, heat waves and times of unusually warm weather are occurring in various places around the world and there have been a lot of this increase in temperature has occurred in North America. There have also been occurrences of warming in the oceans, sea level rising, and coastal flooding. Places that you would never imagine would be heating up are. For example the heating is happening in Antarctica and the Artic. All over the world, rivers are running dry, and coasts are eroding, and making it so peoples’ homes are in danger.
Secondly, for the longest time we have been burning coal, fueling cars, and emitting large amounts of carbon into the air. We are doing this faster than oceans and plants can absorb. The level of carbon in the atmosphere in now higher than it has been for hundreds and hundreds of years, and could be very dangerous. If this continues diseases will start to spread and coral reef bleaching will become a normal thing for marine biologists to encounter. There will also be a shortage on certain types of species, which could mean less food.
Also, the poles are warming and massive glaciers have been depleted to almost nothing. If we don’t take action soon, temperatures could rise another 3 to 9 degrees by the end of the century. Sea levels will rise, flooding coastal areas. Heat waves will be come more often and will be harder to get through. Droughts and wildfires will occur more often. Disease-carrying mosquitoes will grow and spread. Some of the signs that are more dangerous than other are that forest wild fires are occurring quite rapidly and more frequently. Dust storms have occurred in various places because of the hot and dry climate. Floods have also been occurring recently.
Although it might not seem that global warming is not something that our generation has to worry about, studies show that massive melting will occur in the next 50 years that will cause many places, including Manhattan, to be totally submerged. Even the increase in heat will cause more heat related deaths. In 2003, extreme heat waves caused more than 20,000 deaths in Europe and more than 1500 deaths in India that is an extreme amount of deaths. Global Warming needs to be stopped because if we don’t do something soon than that number could be tripled, quadrupled, etc.
I don’t know how else I can stress the importance of this issue. I hope that this gives you some idea of what we are doing to our planet. This is our only home and we are destroying it. Every little person can make a difference in this issue if we join together and help. Some of our greatest and most cherished glacier national parks could be completely gone by 2070. Be aware of this issue and inform others about this. There are ways to prevent it, like walking to more places and possibly buying a Hybrid car. I understand that it seems like the Government won’t change the things they do because oil is a major industry and many peoples’ jobs will be lost, but I think with enough people knowing the danger our Earth is in, how much we are in, we can sway them.
Sincerely, Robin
This is all of it. It was an essay we had to do for Science. Enjoy.
