Yesterday was June 9th. The high temp here reached 54 degrees. Today, June 10th we may get lucky and warm up to 58 degrees.

Yeah, the earth is on fire. Put it out, quick!

I think that's why scientists are trying to change the terminology to "climate change." The drastic changes are cause by and overall warming of the Earth, but that warming is causing weather pattern shifts not just warmer temperatures.

We had snow this year through to near the end of May.

Weather and climate are two totally different things. ;)

Believe me when I tell you that all of that happened 40 and 50 years ago as well. Snow late one year...cold summers...warm winters...snow up to your neck the next year. :upsidedow

Nothing new is happening but what has changed is there are a lot more scientists out there competing for grant money so they don't have to get a real job. Therefore, catchy, scary warnings such as "Global Warming" crop up. Without that what exactly would Al Gore do for a living? :confused3

Climate changes also have been going on for millions of years. Remember your school lessens concerning how the North American continent was once covered by a massive glacier? That's how the great lakes and a lot of subsequent lakes, landscapes, rivers and streams were formed. Would that not be classified as "climate change" to the nth degree?:teacher:

Just as soon as all of us realize that we are no match for nature and that our influence over it is so minor it is almost unmeasurable, the happier we will all be.:woohoo:

I was just discussing this same topic this morning with the other Moms at my son's bus stop. It's been unusually cold and rainy here (following a colder-than-usual winter).

"Global warming" actually changes the whole climate of Earth, resulting in changes of ocean currents, airflows, etc... Some areas will get warmer and droughts while other areas will get colders and have more snowfall/rainfall.

Here in the NE we seem to be getting the cold end of things.

Yep. The term Global Warming is very misleading and is why many people just don't believe that our pollutions can do any harm.

The reason they called it "Global Warming" is because the temps have risen in the oceans and the forests a degree or two.

The result is a change in weather patterns, bird migrations, insect, plant and animal migrations as well.

If you look around your area closely you might find you are having some of those effects.

I have had bald eagles flying above my house in June. They are supposed to be gone by March.
Bears here in MO are migrating north.

The change is happening it is just slow.

We could toss in the problem of the magnetic field & solar radiation into the discussion if you like as well. Is that the majority of the cause? Because the earth is setting up for a pole reversal?

All they can do is take in data and discuss it. Eventually with enough data over time they can have some answers.

List of growing glaciers:

30 years ago some people were trying to scare us with the coming ice age, a few years ago it was global warming, and now it's climate change. They want money for pet projects.

The Earth's climate has changed for billions of years. The last big melt was about 10,000 BC. We have been living with a relatively stable climate in this blink of a time in Earth's history. It won't last even if we stopped driving all fuel emitting modes of transportation and closed all pollution spewing factories. It's a cycle and there is absolutely nothing that we can do to change it.

I don't for a moment believe those that claim that not only has pollution not affected climate, but that pollution could not affect climate.

This makes no sense to me, at all.

So was it pollution 10000 years ago or 90000 years ago that caused the melts at the end of these glacial periods?
Glacials or Ice Ages, have usually lasted for 80,000 to 100,000 years, while the intervening warmer intervals have been much shorter, lasting about 10,000 years. We're at the end of a warming cycle. Opportunists have covered themselves though because as we know we can expect "climate change". Anyone with 2 brain cells knows that the Earth will go through a climate change. Just because we're supposedly more knowledgable about the earth doesn't mean that all of a sudden the Earth will come under man's control.

Man made global warming is the greatest scam ever perpetrated in the history of the world!

I love how you rework the responses of others to make them sound preposterous. That, and your habit of phrasing your post as an insult to anyone who dares disagree are really interesting ways to debate.

That being said, no one has suggested that the earth has 'come under the control of man', whatever that means. However, it is reasonable to believe that the actions of man do have an effect.

Further, it should be mentioned that scientists overwhelmingly agree that climate change is affected by our actions. Many would argue that those relatively few scientists who are still in disagreement are either seriously in error or are being swayed by something other than the science.

Finally, it's true that climate change happens. Often times it is brought about by near cataclismic events, such as meteor impacts or volcanic activity. The way I understand these theories is that a good size meteor impacts the planet (or volcanos erupting) causing lots of dust and smoke (pollution) to litter the atmosphere. Anyway, as you said, climate change happens. Is that a reason that we should make it worse? I think not.

I think most people acknowledge that pollution is bad so yes, some social responsibility is useful. But raising the issue to the ridiculous level where $4 Albuterol inhalers were pulled from the market because Asthmatics were hurting the earth more than their lives are worth took it too far for me. BTW, I don't buy it for one second, the truth is more $ can be made from a $100 inhaler than a $4 inhaler.... and this makes me sick.

I think the whole pop culture idea is a sham based on the coupling of greed and ignorance in our population.

I think the movement has moved to a point where the green party's zealots could now ask for the tax advantages other religions are afforded. To me, mother earth is important, but human beings are more important.

I completely agree. However, I think that it should be mentioned that short term decisions to benefit human beings to the detrimint of 'mother earth' actually bring more harm to human beings in the long term.

<Insert DDT/Bald Eagle discussion here>

It's been going on for millions of years. It's nothing new.

I do think we should try to take measures to reduce polution, toxins in the air, etc...because it is the oxygen we breathe, but man is not causing the so-called global warming.

Actually, I'm posting to this thread while taking a break from converting my SUV to run on used fryolater oil. :rotfl2:

Have you seen this: http://www.petitionproject.org/

Could it also be that those scientists who support global warming are being swayed by something other than science?
