I think that's why scientists are trying to change the terminology to "climate change." The drastic changes are cause by and overall warming of the Earth, but that warming is causing weather pattern shifts not just warmer temperatures.
We had snow this year through to near the end of May.
I was just discussing this same topic this morning with the other Moms at my son's bus stop. It's been unusually cold and rainy here (following a colder-than-usual winter).
"Global warming" actually changes the whole climate of Earth, resulting in changes of ocean currents, airflows, etc... Some areas will get warmer and droughts while other areas will get colders and have more snowfall/rainfall.
Here in the NE we seem to be getting the cold end of things.
Yesterday was June 9th. The high temp here reached 54 degrees. Today, June 10th we may get lucky and warm up to 58 degrees.
Yeah, the earth is on fire. Put it out, quick!
I love how you rework the responses of others to make them sound preposterous. That, and your habit of phrasing your post as an insult to anyone who dares disagree are really interesting ways to debate. So was it pollution 10000 years ago or 90000 years ago that caused the melts at the end of these glacial periods?
Glacials or Ice Ages, have usually lasted for 80,000 to 100,000 years, while the intervening warmer intervals have been much shorter, lasting about 10,000 years. We're at the end of a warming cycle. Opportunists have covered themselves though because as we know we can expect "climate change". Anyone with 2 brain cells knows that the Earth will go through a climate change. Just because we're supposedly more knowledgable about the earth doesn't mean that all of a sudden the Earth will come under man's control.
I completely agree. However, I think that it should be mentioned that short term decisions to benefit human beings to the detrimint of 'mother earth' actually bring more harm to human beings in the long term.To me, mother earth is important, but human beings are more important.

Why are you all spending your time responding to this thread when you should be busy painting your roof white!!

That being said, no one has suggested that the earth has 'come under the control of man', whatever that means. However, it is reasonable to believe that the actions of man do have an effect.
Further, it should be mentioned that scientists overwhelmingly agree that climate change is affected by our actions. Many would argue that those relatively few scientists who are still in disagreement are either seriously in error or are being swayed by something other than the science.
Finally, it's true that climate change happens. Often times it is brought about by near cataclismic events, such as meteor impacts or volcanic activity. The way I understand these theories is that a good size meteor impacts the planet (or volcanos erupting) causing lots of dust and smoke (pollution) to litter the atmosphere. Anyway, as you said, climate change happens. Is that a reason that we should make it worse? I think not.
Actually, I'm posting to this thread while taking a break from converting my SUV to run on used fryolater oil.![]()
