Glimmer of hope for Summer 2021 sailings?

This doctor from Johns Hopkins is saying Covid will be largely gone by April.
And I quote,
"..At the current trajectory, I expect COVID will be mostly gone by April, allowing Americans to resume normal life.."
Can you imagine?
If he's right there is a chance we'll see some ships sailing sometime in the summer.
Amazing news.

He's basing this on speculation... even if he is correct and there is far more herd immunity than we are certain of, it would have to be proven. I honestly feel there will be a lag before confidence grows. Looking BACK we may be able to say ok, yes, based on the rate of infection he was right, but I can't imagine DCL and others will go for it until they KNOW it is safe.

If he was some random person saying it I'd agree with you.
But looking at his credentials he seems to be quite an accomplished doctor.
I hope he's right. I just want to cruise again.

Reality is as it ever has been, which is DCL will not be the first of the lines back at sea, particularly from Florida. The profits of WDC are fine and they needn't be the ones extending the risk to go first.

The April time frame is predicated on the theory that there were a lot more asymptomatic carriers who were never tested and thus we are closer to achieving heard immunity. I believe it was Dr Fauci who said that there is antibody monitoring being performed and the results contradict the higher infection rate theory. I think at best we are looking at late summer as opposed to early Spring. But you can’t outthink the virus between mutations and vaccine hesitancy only time will tell

This was discussed in the news in Canada this week-end...

Long story short: none of our experts agree with his opinion. With the new variants, their current previsions are that it will get worse between April and June.

My non-expert point of view is: if people start believing it, they will stop being as careful and the opposite will happen. So I'd rather think we are stuck with this until summer... To avoid disappointment.

It seems to me the point of that article was to say that they didn't agree with that physician's opinion. Over half of the article talks about why experts in the field think he is wrong. Given the large amount of people who are declining to get vaccinated and that children are still not eligible for vaccination, this seems far fetched.
