Glee/GQ -what about those pics?

I honestly couldn't believe it was an issue. I never have thought as Glee as a show aimed at kids, GQ isn't aimed at kids, none of the people in those photos are kids. But of course we've got somebody screaming "WON'T SOMEBODY THINK OF THE CHILDREN!!!!"

:thumbsup2 Exactly. Adults posing for an adult magazine. And if you have ever watched the show, IT IS NOT A CHILDREN'S SHOW! Have you heard some of the things that come out of the mouth of Sue Sylvestry? Have you followed the content? And excuse me but I've seen worse pics of high schoolers who take them of themselves and send them via text message. Pedophilia? Seriously? The Parents' TV Council needs to stick to children's programming. Just like Tipper Gore telling me if I listened to heavy metal music I would kill myself or others. Guess what Tipper? NEVER HAPPENED! Access America just had pics of Ali Lohan and Taylor Mumsen. If you want to scream pedophlia, talk to their parents who allowed it, not three adults who posed for an adult magazine.

This is just the kind of ridiculous lunacy that we've come to expect from the PTC.

I agree!

AND, all they end up accomplishing is bringing more attention and free publicity to what ever they are against!!!

Glee is on the FOX network! The same channel that bought us 9 years of Married with Children, and Who Wants To Marry A Millionaire! The other day, my DS8 and I were watching the Dallas Cowboy game and he asked me "Mama, whats erictile dysfunction?" I look up and that darn commercial was on. With the man and the woman sitting in bathtubs on the beach, smiling watching the sun set. I HATE THOSE COMMERCIALS! Its everywhere, and as long as you are raising your kids and are willing to keep the communication open, I just don't see anything wrong with it. You can't keep these kind of things away from the kids, you have to talk to them. My DD15 and I watch Glee every Tuesday night. We do a girls night. Last week, we did facial masks and we were painting our toes when she saw Santana & Britney making out, her mouth dropped, and of course, we talked about afterwards. Again, I didn't see anything wrong with it, it gave us a good reason to discuss the issue.

:thumbsup2

I was watching started watching 90210 when I was 11 years old and I also watched Melrose Place which came shortly there after. Did I know exactly what was happening in the show as far as some of the racier scenes, no. I didn't care because I liked watching the show - it was entertaining to me. My sister and I watched it with my mom and there are still some episodes that truly stick out to me - especially the one where Brenda finds a lump in her breast. To me, even at my young age, it was a powerful episode.

My mom was always very careful to let us know that what happens on TV isn't truly 'real life'. In 'real life' people don't sleep around as they do on tv...ok some people do, but most people don't. Me watching those shows did not change my upbringing. No television show was going to influence me in that way.

I even watched 'Three's Company' when I was a little kid - I mean like 5 or 6. Didn't understand what all of the jokes were about, but I LOVED watching John Ritter throw himself around! :lmao: I still love watching repeats of that show.

I am a proud Gleek. I love the show and look forward to it every week. There is nothing else like it on TV and to me that makes it very special. :thumbsup2

I watch glee and my kids will not. Even though the show takes place in a high school it is NOT like high school musical or other teen shows. The topics are very mature and like the Madonna "like a virgin " scene. I can't believe how many of DDs friends watch it! I thought the pictures were racier than the show, but these adults can pose in a magazine if they choose.

Glee is a show targeted to HIGH SCHOOL students, it deals with very real issues that happen in high schools all over the country. A parent that THINKS it is for little kids is the one that is wrong, not the show, tv station, nor any publicity the cast gets outside of the show. It is a VERY appropriate show for HIGH SCHOOLERS. Not everything on tv is made for little kids and a lot of parents forget that.

I haven't seen the spread because I really don't care. If you don't like it, don't look at it :confused3.

Interesting.... we should check the ratings for the next episode of Glee, and see if the pictorial has any impact.

I do not watch Glee. In fact I'm one of those who is sick of hearing about it!

That being said, I'm watching the episode next Tuesday, but NOT because of the pictures. I'm watching because they'll be doing songs from one of the GREATEST movie/musicals of all time, Rocky Horror.

I'm also crossing my fingers that they don't ruin it, since the original is a true classic. :thumbsup2

Too late, they had to change some of the words to "Sweet Transvestite from Transylvania"...oh the SACRILEGE!

My teenage DD said something interesting...ever notice how there aren't any shows with 20-30 year olds? That's because all the real twentysomethings on TV are pretending to be teenagers ::yes:: .

agnes!

adults, adult magazine, fairly adult show.

Yup...absolutely so. This show isn't intened for tweens..it's intended for high schoolers and older. My dd and I watch it together every week...it gets some very interesting conversations started.

Have to say....anyone here see 'Spring Awakening' with Leah Michelle??? Talk about racey. And she was a lot younger than she is now.
Of course, I'm a different type mom. I took my then 15 y/o dd to see 'Spring Awakening' in Boston for Mother's Day a few years ago. Stuff it out there...you need to be able to discuss it with your kids.

The photos are not pedophilia but they characterize something very close to it. The women are adults but dressed up like saucy little Lolitas. It reminds me of one of the tricks of the porn industry where they hire just-barely 18 year old teens to pose as middle-school children so the pedophiles can get their rocks off "legally". I bet that issue of GQ will be loved by many.

If pedophiles seeing people of legal age pretending to be younger keeps them away from actual kids I'm all for it.

I do watch Glee, my daughter watches it with me, and yes sometimes I think it's borderline for her. She is a freshman. But yes, it sparks some good conversations. She will not read the GQ, and they are adults, so I am not concerned.

HOWEVER, that Taylor Momsen cover is disgusting!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have thought that girl was way too racy for awhile now, but OMG, she is still a kid!! Does she have parents?

I am also watching as a RH fan, but I don't think you will be happy in the end!

Rumor is Mercedes is Franky - hence, a female creating the creature and not a male. The changes are curious to me in light of the girl on girl action from two weeks ago!? I guess we will have to wait and see!

Keeping my fingers crossed!:)

Wow, your daughter was suprised to see women kissing? At my son's high school, there is a very active GL club and this week much of the school wore purple to support Pride Day.

no there are no G/L clubs at my daughters high school. But my girl is just starting high school as a freshmen, so I'm sure she will see more in the upcoming years. She wasnt disturbed by it, she didnt expect to see it. It had nothing to do with being gay, Kurt is our favorite character on Glee we LOVE how comfortable he is in his own skin. But I loved that it opened her eyes more. Like I said, it allowed us to discuss those issues more.

I saw this yesterday and couldn't believe this is a story getting all this press. The actors are all in their 20s; the guy that plays Finn is 28 years old. If these were 12 year old actors doing the same pictures I would have a different opinion, but they are not kids.

And as Frank pointed out....if you don't like it, don't buy their magazine! End of story. Also, this press is nothing but good for them; I would bet my monthly salary that the people at GQ are LOVING this and that their circulation numbers for this issue will reflect that. Because truly, there is no such thing as bad publicity when you are an entertainment magazine.

Just had to agree with you about Spring Awakening being great! Didn't see Lea Michelle as I saw the road company in Seattle but really loved it. I wish I has taken my teen DS to see it. Lots of great discussion material there and I SO love the music.

But, in terms of the photos... I do think Lea's are a bit much in those skimpy white panties. However, I do agree that grown ups can do what they like as long as it is legal and not hurtful to others. My DD (nearly 11) and I do watch the show and have great conversations about it. Our whole family is really into musical theatre etc so we love the music and especially those bonus nights when you get to hear people like Kristin Chenewith or Idina Menzel... wow!!! But, let me tell ya... I guess you could call me a Gleek circa 1980 () but we weren't up to those shenanigans at school! Pretty run of the mill stuff... didn't sing Journey but were all over Styxx!! Hee hee.

The new Melrose Place was about people in their mid 20s. It was canceled halfway through the season though.

The characters in One Tree Hill are now in their mid 20s (though the show did start when they were in high school).

Some of the other CW shows like Gossip Girl and Hellcats are about kids in college.

I do agree most shows are about kids in high school (played by actors in their 20s), but not all. Though most do seem to end up canceled!

My child does not read GQ and would never have seen these pics if there wasn't such an uproar about them made by this council. I think that is what upsets me more than anything.

I don't think the show will lose ratings/viewers. Glee was never aimed to be a kids show. The creator Ryan Murphy stated that since the beginning. The show is a satire that angled towards kids 15 and older and adults. The people who are complaining the most about the show are members of Parents Televison Council and these people really aren't fans of Glee or anything else on TV.

20 somethings playing teens has happened for a long time and will continue to happen due to child labor laws and budget issues. Networks want actors who can film any time and they don't want to have to pay on set tutors.

I'm also crossing my fingers that they don't ruin it, since the original is a true classic. :thumbsup2
Glee cheats: They often use incredibly talented singers to sing songs that were originally sung by rather mediocre singers. So be sure to be prepared to appreciate how much better the voices and vocal talent applied to the songs are. Don't expect them to be similar to the actors who sung the songs originally - expecting that would be an insult to the original actors and the Glee cast members.
