Hi there, we're planning to go to Orlando sometime next year (can go anytime really) but having problems with even finding any flights to Orlando from Glasgow on the Virgin/TCD website!!! I know there are other companies but I'd like to see what Virgin/TCD have to offer but their website is a MINEFIELD when trying to find ANYTHING from Glasgow :confused3

Can anyone tell me what months/days Virgin fly to Orlando from Glasgow in? And has anyone got any info about 2010 going from Glasgow?!

They say they fly to Orlando from Glasgow but then can't find any flights, and it's not one of these websites that offer you alternative dates :(

Like I said we can go ANY time but just looking for the cheapest really.

Thanks!

Hi

I know you can go anytime but I don't think that'll help much with Virgin out of Glasgow. I had a look at the 2009 brochure out of interest the other night and outward flights were severly limited to Friday and Saturday around peak school holidays.

Can't remember exactly offhand but it was along the lines of 2 consecutive weekends at Easter, 3 consecutive weekends at the end of June and 2 consecutive weekends for the October week.

That's 14 flights in total in a year !!!! Doesn't surprise me you can't book anything.

VH advertise this Glasgow service as a big deal but, IMHO, it's appalling compared to the Gatwick and Manchester services where there's multiple flights daily all year.

Yeah I knew it was a limited service but I thought it was something like May to September.

Thanks for the information though!

Looks like I'll have to look elsewhere :( Just need to wait as alot of places only go up to April next year so far! Grrrr!

I went to Orlando in 2003 but can't for the life of me remember who we flew with! It seems to be I can get to places like New York/Vegas (been to both as well) from Glasgow easier than Florida!!

hi we always fly from manchester when going to florida. We travel down the night before and stay the night. You can save loads by doing this:yay:

VH/VA from Glasgow is a nightmare and only works during the school holidays but bizarrely it doesn't even cover all our holiday dates.

With this in mind in September we just went indirect from Edinburgh to Orlando via Newark and it was alot less painful than when we had to go from Dundee-Glasgow-London-DC-Orlando in 2004!

Yeah I've seen Continental do Glasgow->Newark->Orlando, I'd be worried though I'd be too tempted to just stay in New York for a few days beforehand! LOL

Will consider Manchester as I went to Los Angeles via Heathrow in November and it wasn't actually as much hassle as I thought it would be!

Thanks guys :thumbsup2

Hi - We go to Florida with Virgin from Gatwick and get a transfer down
from Glasgow. Virgin get you down to Gatwick with BA for £25 per person.
It's a good deal and we use it a lot. Next flight is 29th April leaving Glasgow 9.05 with BA to connect Virgin at Gatwick. Just phone up and say we need a transfer down to connect at Gatwick and it will be done...:thumbsup2

We have flown Glasgow-Gatwick-Orlando twice & our only minor gripe is the waiting about in London but it really is a minor gripe! I think Virgin think they are doing us all a favour by putting on a couple of flights out of Scotland! We have also done Manchester & would probably do this again if the price is right,we nearly done this last time with BMI but just as we were about to book their price went up just enough to make it less attractive.Hate the drive back up but again it's all about the price.
The BA flight get's you in Orlando for 3 ish & coming back we were in Glasgow for 11 so the flight times are good.Of the others ie Continental etc we thought that Continental had the best flight times & I suppose you could look at it that all you're doing is changing planes in the US as opposed to UK>
HTH SD:thumbsup2

Consider US Airways from Glasgow. We're flying Glasgow-Philly-Orlando in September, £326pp.
We've flown from Manchester a few times in the past, but by the time you've added petrol and car parking for 2 weeks, the deal with US is very difficult to beat.

The VA flights this year are for about three or four weeks from end of June beginning of July and a couple of weeks in October this year. We booked in May last year for a flydrive for this year but ended up changing to take advantage of free dining in August so we're now back to going via Gatwick. Keep an eye on the flydrive packages as you may get a better deal than for scheduled flight only.

We are flying from Aberdeen to Gatwick and the Gatwick to Orlando. All booked through Virgin Holidays. This was considerably cheaper as well as allowed us to go for 22 days rather than flying from Glasgow :)

I booked flights through Expedia. It is Glasgow to Gatwick and Gatwick to Orlando. The flights to Gatwick are with BA and then Virgin to Orlando. I anticipate my luggage will go all the way through.

I have not flown this before, but I often go to Los Angeles and have tried many routes and my favourite is Glasgow to Heathrow, so I don't anticipate this being different.

Hi

Your bags will only go right through if you are flying with the same carrier - i have friends who have gone on this flight route and each time they have needed to collect bags at Gatwick and re-check in with Virgin ...a bit of a hassle

Hi scottishgirl

we have flown from glasgow and edinburgh a few times to orlando, both direct and via gatwick.
Of course we prefer direct but can't quite bring ourselves to "suffer" globespan on a long haul flight. By far the best experience has been BA from either Edinburgh or Glasgow via Gatwick.
This year we are trying the continental service from edinburgh via newark at the end of april (700.00 for the two of us) the flight times are perfect and we have enough time in newark to relax before the next leg.

I would consider this as an alternative..........we have been told that changing in the US means that you get through Immigration in Newark so you just walk off the internal flight in Orlando and save quite a considerable amount of time.
Will let you know once we are back just how it has been ..........

Oh no! That is a hassle. I assumed it would be like flying to LA. Normally it is different carriers and I have to go to the counter to get a second boarding pass, but my luggage is checked all the way through. It must be Virgin that is the problem.

I feel miffed now.

Hiya

I notice that you will be going out roughly the same time as us, for your first time (according to your web badge)

Maybe see you there

Thankfully; even though the first leg is with Flybe, because our journey is booked on 1 ticket Flybe will honour the Virgin baggage allowance and allow baggage to be check in at Aberdeen and collected at Orlando :)

Did this route in Septmber and was so much less hassle than having to get through to Glasgow, down to London and then over to the US. Our flight had seatback tv's which wasn't expected at the time as only 60% of the flights had them and the food was good enough, the staff were efficient and pleasant. Immigration was fairly long but we were at the back of the plane so last off and we missed our connection because of it so had to wait in the airport for an extra 7 hours, yes, 7 hours but once in to Orlando we just collected the car and off we went!

Definitely looking forward to this route again next year but will make sure my connection time is 3 hours and not 1.5!

I had heard similar stories about missing connections so we have opted for around 4 hrs change over time in Newark.....
did your baggage go right through to Orlando?
Can you get out of the airport for fresh air between the flights?
