Glad I got checked out

A month or so ago I posted a rather panicky post about a strane mole that popped up. I had my doctor check it and all was fine, but the experience prompted me to schedule a skin exam with a dermatologist. Well, while she agreed the mole was fine, she found 2 pre-cancerous growths on my face. I had never really noticed them, they looked like minor blemishes or large freckles (though one was getting more than a bit large). No big deal, a little liquid nitrogen appled to the spots in question and problem solved. However, if I had not gone in, I could have been facing a much different story later on.

Which brings me to the point of this post. Folks, if you don't already do so, please the time to get a skin exam. I know I'm glad I did.

Glad you're ok WDWHound. You're right, everyone should have the skin exam done. I've put this off but I think I'll be calling and making an appt!!

I am glad you got it checked out! I remember thinking when you posted that it was probably nothing...just shows what I know. Will make and appointment. So...have you had a colonoscopy?:)

Glad that everything is going your way. You can never be too careful.

Happy Thoughts to all,

Nice reminder. I get checked out quite often. So far I've had 2 basil cancers removed and 2 surgeries for mellanoma. Those two could have killed me. I'm the guy in the shade.:earseek:

That is great, Don, so happy for you. Yep, skin check is so important. I was there about 6 weeks ago. Thanks for the reminder too.

Oh MY!! Thank goodness all turned out well!

I'm fair skinned, with skin cancer in my family history. You have reminded me to make another dermo appointment. Did that today - thanks for the reminder!!

Glad you are OK now and I hope you will have no further problems.

It is a timely message. Remember SUNSCREEN, SUNSCREEN, SUNSCREEN! (And remember it for your kids too!)

Me and my DD have one for June. I like to get checked since I'm so fair skinned and have moles, freckles, etc all over!

:) Glad to hear you're O.K., Hound. :)

Thanks for the pre-summer reminder about skin cancer, too.

Glad you had everything taken care of in time. I am red-headed w/freckles, and I used to be quite the sun worshiper WITHOUT sunscreen. I had a basil cell removed about 18 years ago, no recurrences, thank God. A few years ago I had an oddly shaped mark under one of my toes. I actually had had it for about 20 years, but never really wanted to have it checked-scared maybe. We (the Dermatologist and I) kept watch over it for a year or so, then he finally took a biopsy. It was ok, but boy, it was scary. It looked just like some of the ones you see in the pictures under the heading "melanoma". Now I use sunscreen, and I have a full body check every year. We love the sun sports, so we can't keep out of it, but we drown the kids in SS.:teeth:

My dad has about 8 basil or squamos cells removed every year. His mother was the same. Mississippians with no sunscreen for most/all of their lives..He wears it now..

Excellent advice and a timely reminder. My husband has had surgery (couldn't be cryo'ed off) for skin cancer 3 times over the last two years and he wasn't even a sun worshiper.
