Giving Santa his Mickey ears! Our toddler's 1st trip!-UPDATE:We're back! Pic inside

What a fun TR! And a hilarious title. I can't wait to have kids to take to Disney!

Also, I took a Mayan Civilizations class as a senior elective and the numbering system would make it extremely inconvenient to add another day. They'd have to shift everything. So they stopped :lmao:

Haunted Mansion- problem!!! Both the 3 year old and the 6 year old hated it. My younger son (now 10) will ride it now, but he hates the stretching room, especially if other guests start screaming when the lights go out. I think you can ask to skip the stretching room. We did a couple of years ago.

I had no idea that you could skip the stretching room! That's awesome. As DL, it is actually an elevator, so that option doesn't exist. As a little kid, I was super scared of the HM and mostly because of that room. Knowing I can skip it at WDW if my daughter hates it is a great tip! Thanks!!:thumbsup2

I was almost 3 the first time (no Epcot then!), and almost 5 the second time (we went right when Epcot opened). I have a lot of memories from when I was very small - my first memory comes from when I was around 8-9 months old. Crazy, huh? I'll remember something and have to ask my mom about it, because I was too young to know when it was.

8 months old is AMAZING. Wow. I think my earliest memory is from 2 or 3 years old.

I can't really blame them. Who would want to start all their work over again? ahha. Thanks for joining in with me. I am having fun reading your PTR as well! :thumbsup2

A Family's Love for Mickey!

Hello 'old' friends and hopefully some more new ones I make along the way. Walt has a Peter Pan ship ready for you, so hop on and hold on tight!

I have been staring at the calendar as of late. While I don't want to rush through this precious young time with my daughter, of course there are times I wish December was just around the corner. I remind myself that planning is a part of the whole experience that makes the waiting enjoyable. That aspect will kick in a little more once calendars are released and we get closer to the 180 ADR mark. I have also been toying with adding another day to our trip. We shall see!

So what does one do when our trip is -

Well, in my home, we take pics! We all love our Mickey shirts in my household. It is high couture to us! ;)

Here I am a few years ago with my westie:

My husband has an old 'vintage' WDW shirt he got from that oh so fashionable decade, the 80s. During a trip to WDW a few years back, I found a matching dog shirt. Of course we had to get it. Once I found out I was pregnant, I got a onesie as well. Now I just need one for me! Wah!! :sad1: I had misplaced the dog shirt, and it was bugging me that daughter would soon outgrow the onesie. But I finally found it today, and so I made my loved ones pose for a fashion shoot!

Two last things to share. I found this adorable old Valentine on ebay and just had to get it for my hubbie. It's from the 50s and is not Disney, but the Mickey ears are of course a nod to MMC. Hope you all had a lovely Valentine's day!

And for those who are curious of my antenna count, here's where I am at!

Great shirts! Great photoshoot session! Glad you could find everyone's outfit.

Love the pics & the retro shirts!!

I'm interested in reading the opinions on the rides for the 26mo old.....with my twins being autistic & mentally delayed.....basing info on rides & attractions for infant/toddlers helps me figure out what might work for them.

Ok, I already forgot most of the rides on your survey, but we took A back when she was 23 months old, and she rode everything that wouldn't jiggle a little toddler brain.

She loved the HM, and kept yelling out to a little boy that was crying, "it's ok, shhh!" She liked POTC, but I did warn her about the little drop. Pretty much everything held her interest, but I'm pretty sure the Tigger tattoo we got on her arm was her favorite thing.

What a fun photo shoot. Those retro shirts are awesome, and it's so cool that you each have one!

I can't believe your antenna topper count is already up to 18. Keep your eyes on the road! ;)

Thanks guys!! Now I just need to find me a matching shirt. Well, and a toddler shirt for Miss J as that onesie is not going to fit very much longer.

Oh and Elleshoodat....here is the latest count:

I've been meaning to tell you how awesome I think you all that you do with your children. I haven't shared on here, but I work in child welfare. I have the upmost respect for those who foster/adopt. I got teary reading about your family. :flower3:

I had posted the same poll on the Theme Parks thread. I will do a little debriefing based on what I learned from the responses. Perhaps I will post about it on here tonight.

I can only imagine A telling the boy to "shhhhh." So cute. I am surprised how many things I will get to take J on, granted she is a willing participant of course. I was afraid of the DLR POTC as a very young child. It was the burning village scene with the hanging pieces of wood etc that are on fire. I thought they would fall on my head. hehe. They don't have that scene at MK, in fact many of the scenes are shortened or not in the FL version.

Results from Toddler Ride/Attraction Survey

A couple weeks ago, I posted a survey on the Theme Parks board (and on here too) asking people if they took their toddlers (3 and under) on the following rides/attractions and about their experience. I cherry picked these particular rides/shows because while Dumbo seems to be an obvious hit with most little ones, I wasn't sure how they typically take Maelstrom or Pirates, etc. I was also concerned about the length of time for some of the rides (i.e. Ellen) or shows.

So I thought I would do a little 'roll-up' of the responses because it was super helpful in giving me an idea of what my toddler might be willing to try. I got over 40 responses! :thumbsup2 Of course, every child is different, some more adventurous than others. Do I need to do a disclaimer that this survey is in no way scientific? :lmao:

MK:

-Barnstormer (now Great Goofini- height req 2 ft 11 in) 52% rode. The others who did not ride were due to the height restrictions, feeling their toddler was not ready for a coaster, or the ride not being open (as it has been closed much of this past year).

-Pirates 93% rode. Most reported no problems w/ fear.

-Jungle Cruise 88% rode. This was a popular ride with tikes!

-Tomorrowland Speedway 60% rode. Some thought there were height restrictions (which there are not). Those who went stated child loved it.

-Haunted Mansion 93% rode. Only a few people mentioned their child got scared. One person suggested parent could skip the shrinking room if they though that might disturb their child.

-Astro Orbiter 17% rode. Least popular ride of the bunch. There isn't a height restriction, but the height of the ride (way up high in the sky of TL) scared a few folks from trying it. Many skipped it not because of their toddler, rather they (the parents) had no interest riding it.

DHS:

-Great Movie Ride 60% rode. Some said their toddlers were scared, and they covered ears/eyes during the shoot-out scene. Yet, there were others that had not issues. One parent suggested riding in the back of the ride because the alien scene is a little less 'dramatic' back there.

-Toy Story 93%. This was a huge fave. People said their toddlers loved actually playing the game, not just going along for the ride. Many commented that Toy Story was their child's favorite ride in all of WDW.

EPCOT:

-Ellen's Energy ride 43% rode it. Many commented that their children were bored or fell asleep. I can't blame them as this ride makes me yawn too.

-Turtle Talk w/ Crush 79% experienced it. Most said their toddlers loved it, but some with younger aged toddlers didn't get it. Some expressed regret over skipping this show as they feel their kids would have enjoyed it.

-Maelstrom 64% rode it. While many toddlers loved it, there were a few that were scared by a couple dark scenes.

AK:

-Kilimanjaro Safaris 93% rode it. This was another huge hit with the kiddos. You can't beat seeing animals!

-Nemo/Lion King live shows 62% experienced it. Some said their kids loved the music, others said they fell asleep or got antsy. There were several people who did not even attempt to do this attraction.
__________

Thanks to everyone who responded. I found it interesting because it gives me an idea of what we might attempt during our future trip.

Thank you SO MUCH for posting the results! That will be super helpful as I make changes to our plans.

Your findings are about what I expected, but I was pleasantly surprised to see most toddlers' reactions to Pirates and Haunted Mansion ... and to see we can take him on the Speedway! DS is a little daredevil, and I'm betting he will love it.

I'm joining in on the fun and subscribed to your thread. popcorn:: I love the picture with the retro shirts, btw!

Pretty accurate survey, I would say. My niece loves Pirates of the Caribbean, Haunted Mansion and The Little Mermaid: Ariel's Undersea Adventure, but was pretty much game for any ride she was allowed to go on! (This was at Disneyland last October, and she's two now.)

Anyway, I know what an awesome trip this will be- we took my niece for her first trip to WDW when she was 8 months old, and while she won't remember that trip, the rest of us most definitely cherish exploring the world through her eyes. It was a magical and much loved experience for us all, and she'll be going again this Sept./Oct. when we go! I can't wait to hear about all your plans and excited to see how your trip goes as well!! :woohoo:

I was surprised about those attractions as well. I know EVERY child is different. I just think about how dark it is on those rides. I also wonder how she will handle the drop. I am also wondering what should be the first (major) ride outside of Fantasyland. What are you going to do? Have you thought about that for your little guy?

Jumping on from the roll call. We'll be there on 12/12/12 as well. Maybe we should have a meet and greet at the pyramid in Mexico, at EPCOT, and ring in the end of the world with some frozen margaritas?
