Giving Santa his Mickey ears! Our toddler's 1st trip!-UPDATE:We're back! Pic inside

Love the ears! I don't think I have that much patience, so you definitely won't see me bedazzling something!

It takes patience, but see, I did that during the MANY months I had to wait till our big DLR trip back then. It gave me something fun and Disney'ish to do! I had more idle hands back then. hehe

Those are awesome! The pin, too. And, I have to say, so much nicer than the $1,200 ones!

Why thank you. Shall I place them on ebay and see if I fetch $1200? :lmao:

Welcome about guys! We are going retro today...hope you enjoy some time on the Skyway to Trip Report land!

I love your ears that you did yourself - WOW, now THAT'S a craft - but you do know that the end of the long count and the Mayan prophecy of the world ending in fire is for 12-21-12... right? You're going to miss the end of the world by less than two weeks.

Thanks for the compliment of my ears. Yes, it is a craft, and pretty much the last CRAFT I have done in years. :rotfl2: I know that there is a debate over 12/12 and 12/21. If the latter date is right, well, at least I enjoyed Disney first. And IF, and I use IF strongly, it is all hogwash (;)), I look forward to many more Disney trips.

Your ear collection is fab! Congrats on your little one, she is adorable.

Thanks and THANKS.

No I was fixing this shirt for the upcoming Dis Diva's Girl's Only Trip to Disneyland!! This shirt was designed & hand decorated by one of our ladies...she did an incredible job.......but I didn't realize it couldn't go in the washer :rolleyes1 Four of the rhinestones fell off & I had to repair it.

That shirt is AMAZING!!! Your friend designed the castle? That is so cool and better than pretty much all the shirts you can buy at Disney. Seriously, I want one!! :thumbsup2

WOW what an AWESOME picture!! I saw that and felt such a strong wave of nostalgia - thank you for posting it! I know some people argue that the Skyway showed off parts of MK that shouldn't be seen, but as a child I thought it was one of the best rides in all of WDW.

As for the Mayans - well, I'm a Christian, so I'm gonna have to go with "hogwash". I took a very interesting class on those middle American cultures as a senior requirement in college, and we had a discussion about the long count and the end of the long count, and there were quite a few people who got nervous as we talked about it. Group culture is very interesting. I, for one, hope that you get through your trip without the world ending.

I never got to ride the Skyway at MK. WaH :sad2: But I did ride the one at DL many times. I would have loved to have seen MK from that perspective. Such a shame it's gone.

RE: end of world---- please trust I am just playing and believe it is all hogwash. We need a sarcastic emoticon here. ;)

She did an amazing job......lots of ladies got stopped that day & were asked where they could purchase one. They really sparkle in the sun!!! This years theme is the old retro Disneyland sign but it will be DisDivaLand....can't wait to see it......in 26 days!!!! :cool1:

Oh man, I definitely took it as sarcasm. No worries!

I've never been to DL, but my mom and I just decided to go for her 60th next year. I'll be doing the planning, so that should be fun! :wizard:

You are going to have THE best time. DL is so special. You can sense Walt all around you. I am jealous!

An Embarrassing Confession...

Alright, before you read this and think I am insane, please dig deep within yourself. Think about how you might do something slightly bizarre too when you get in Disney mode.

So what's my confession? I have a weird obsession (compulsion!) when it comes to Mickey antenna balls!!! :rolleyes1

Yep---these:

Wouldn't those last ones be SO perfect for the holidays? sigh.

Anyway, whenever I have an upcoming WDW trip, I start counting them on the road. Poor DH has to hear me screaming like a kid when I point them out on the car next to us or oncoming traffic.

vx2rd0.jpg

I honestly believe that if I hit a target number (I don't know how I even arrive at said number) by the time we hit the gates of Disney, that we will receive some extra pixie dust on our trip. And yes, if there is any bit of luck during our visit, I attribute it to my antenna counting. I can actually remember during one pre-trip session, I counted over 500 ears.

I warned you in my intro that I was odd. :dance3: You were warned!

I told myself I wasn't going to count this time. I promised myself I was done, told myself I was a mom and should be mature and not count. Well...well...

I am up to three. :rotfl: Remember I live in SE Florida. There are LOTS of ears down here, even though antennas are disappearing off cars. It's only the end of January. I have a lot of ears to count now. I am a sad, sorry lot.

So that brings me to YOU!! Tell me I am not alone in doing something just a wee bit odd before you trip. No, you may not count antennas, but maybe there is something Disney'ish you do that other Dis fanatics might 'get', but no one else. Do share! Don't make me feel alone.

I like the antenna toppers too!! I have a small Christmas tree next to my bed with the toppers on it, as well as key chains.....so there you have it......I have a Christmas tree up year round!!! :goodvibes

Love this report so far!!! Fantastic pictures and I love that you are sharing some wonderful past memories.

Your daughter is adorable. I know you will have such a great "first trip as parents" with her.

I am SO in!!!

Greetings new readers!!

Thanks for jumping into my teacup and taking a 'spin' around my PTR!

As a little treat, the pic above is not just something I swiped off the 'net. In fact, if you look at the yellow teacup, and spot the goofy blonde on the right waving at you, that would be me circa mid 80s. I posted this pic on the DIS before and someone pointed out that the dude in line looks like Borat. Check out his shorts. He is ROCKIN' the 80s!!

I'm in! Can't wait to hear more!

Yay!! We both got a long time to wait till December. Hope I can entertain you that long!

Hi Dee! :thanks: for the nice comments regarding my PTR so far and my daughter. I got plenty of pics to share in the near future. Glad to have you here! That comic is funny!

Ok, yeah the tree up all year is kinda weird, but I get it. I get it, I promise. Kinda. :lmao: I do love the idea of using the antenna balls on a tree. Might have to steal that one!!

Joining in, your little one is adorable! And awesome job on the jewled mickey ears. They look really cool! Looking forward to your PTR. :)

Just checking in to say "howdy"! I haven't done much in terms of planning the past couple weeks, though, I have been 'bad' and have been already buying outfits for my daughter to wear while we are at the World. More on that later.

I just read someone's old TR and the author (who shall remain nameless) was such a Debby Downer. It seemed like nothing about WDW could please her. I can promise you I will NOT be like that. I am always a happy camper when I'm in the land of Mickey. :woohoo:

And just an update to my confession from the previous post above:

Survey Time! I want to hear from you!

I am starting to think about what rides/attractions my 26 month old will want to ride/see, and if she will be scared etc. I know I will have to just wait and see how she does, but I am just interested to hear what your experience has been if you have traveled with a toddler. Below is a list of attractions I am curious about. Please let me know the youngest a child experience it and how it went! Thanks in advance! *I did post this on the theme park board, but would also like to hear from you guys as well. :thumbsup2

MK:
-Barnstormer (now Great Goofini) - height req 2 ft 11 in
-Pirates
-Jungle Cruise
-Tomorrowland Speedway
-Haunted Mansion
-Astro Orbiter

DHS:
-Great Movie Ride (concerned about the shoot out scene)
-Toy Story (even just for the ride, not to play)

EPCOT:
-Ellen's Energy ride (concerned about length of ride)
-Turtle Talk w/ Crush
-Maelstrom

AK:
-Kilimanjaro Safaris
-Nemo/Lion King live shoes (concerned that show length might be too long)

I went as a toddler, and rode a lot of stuff. So here's what I think based on my experiences when I was little (and yes, I remember it).

MK:
-Barnstormer (now Great Goofini) - this one wasn't around when I was a kid, but I would have absolutely happily ridden it. On our first trip, I'd already been on kiddie coasters at Six Flags!
-Pirates - rode it and was a little scared at the cannons.
-Jungle Cruise - I remember thinking the animals were real; fun ride for a little kid.
-Tomorrowland Speedway - this one is a classic for the little kids, so I'd definitely do it at least once.
-Haunted Mansion - rode this very, very young. Loved it, but was convinced a ghost was going to follow me home so I cried and had nightmares for days. I still rode it again, though - go figure.
-Astro Orbiter - I do not believe I have ever ridden this, but as long as your child isn't afraid of heights it shouldn't be a big deal.

I'd say TSMM would be good too, though I'm not sure about the Great Movie Ride. Could be pretty boring.

I don't think I'd do Ellen, but definitely do Crush! And she would probably really like the safari a lot.

Wow, what age were you when you first went? You have a GREAT memory!!! :) Thanks for your response!

The first time I took my boys, August 2004, they were 3 and 6 years old, so I will give my feedback based on the 3 year old.

MK- we did not go on Goofy's or Astro Orbitors. I can't remember if we went on Speedway, but if we did, it was hot. It's alway hot in line! We did Jungle Cruise, Pirates with no problem. Haunted Mansion- problem!!! Both the 3 year old and the 6 year old hated it. My younger son (now 10) will ride it now, but he hates the stretching room, especially if other guests start screaming when the lights go out. I think you can ask to skip the stretching room. We did a couple of years ago.

DHS- We did not go to the Studios on this trip. As the PP said, GMR could be boring for a toddler and there are a couple of scary parts (the shootout/fire if you get the cowboy scene, the Indiana Jones bit). I think TSM would be fun for a toddler.

AK- We did the safari, I don't remember any problems. Toddlers love animals! We didn't watch Nemo, we saw Lion King. Did not blow the toddler away.

EP- I did Ellen's with the older boy, but my DH took the 3 year old for a walk because we thought this would be too long for him. We didn't do Maestrom and I don't think Turtle Talk was there at the time.

Wow, what age were you when you first went? You have a GREAT memory!!! :) Thanks for your response!

I was almost 3 the first time (no Epcot then!), and almost 5 the second time (we went right when Epcot opened). I have a lot of memories from when I was very small - my first memory comes from when I was around 8-9 months old. Crazy, huh? I'll remember something and have to ask my mom about it, because I was too young to know when it was.
