if you are going to be traveling in the next few weeks. I would suggest close to 2 hrs now. here at the pittsburgh airport its a long way to go now to get into the airport. for my flight next wed at 8 am I will have to be there by 6 am at the latest and that means leaving my house by 515am at the latest so that I can no park and take all my bags with me walk the long walkway thru checkpoint one, to the end at checkpoint 2 and go upstairs to the tkt cntr to check my bags in and then go thru checkpoint 3 to the gate to get on my flight. better safe than sorry.

I have seen a couple of airlines requesting passengers come to the airport 3 hours early.

In 20 days Im flying with my 9yr son for a 7am flight. We will need to be at the airport by at least 5am. I know many children will be laying on the floors resting.

I have a 6:20 am flight. I live about 1 1/2 hrs. from the airport. When we do the 3 hours early math it means we leave here at 1:50am??? I'm thinking about having my husband drop us off the night before, if they'll let us. We're also thinking that driving (about 20 hours) may end up being our best bet anyway. We leave in about 2 weeks, so there's no guarentee that even after we check in, that there will be a flight for us.

like I said for my 8 am flight I must be there between 530-6am now. which means I will have to leave here between 430-445am. I now have to allow extra time for parking and god only knows how long the line will be for the tkt cntr. some airport tkt cntrs don't open until 5am. some airports don't open untl late. I wonder if they plan to adjust this along with the new check-in limit.

Have you thought about getting a room at a hotel by the airport so that you don't have that long drive so early now? we just may be doing this ourselves.

I had a 7:30am flight and I live about an hour from the airport, and I am traveling with two your children.

So today I rebooked my flight with Southwest and now I am leaving at 12:30 pm and it's a nonstop flight. So this is going to work out alot better for me and my family.

I just hated the fact of having to get to the airport at 5:30am, so that would mean I would have to leave my house by 4:00 or 4:30am. And I would have to get my three and four year old out of bed by 3:00am. And my kids are VERY crabby if they are tired, so I did not want to have to deal with that just starting out my vacation.

well I booked my room at the airport for the night before. got a great rate too at the hyatt. its literayyly in the middle of the moving walkway which is in the middle of checkpoints 1 and 2. this will save so much time the morning of travel.

I'm anxious to hear about your stay at the Hyatt. Please let me know how it is when you return. :)

Thanks,

We leave in 5 weeks and I hope things get a little better. I checked the Delta site and it said to arrive 2 hours before your flight time....EXCEPT if you're leaving out of DULLES, then you must be there 4 HOURS before your flight time....well you guess it--That's me. With a 6:50 AM flight, I have to be there at 2:50 AM.....and I live 50 miles from the airport, which is a 45 minute drive. OK, who wants to say I need to leave my house by 2:00 AM. Now, I'm not complaining, and I respect all of the extra security, but hopefully 2 HOURS will be enough, not 4, considering the time of day, the airport is not that busy. I'll be watching this carefully.

n2mm. I would check with Delta before I got to the airport at 2 am. I know that Dullus is a big airport, but at a lot of airports the check in counter would not be open then so there would be no need to be there that early. Find out what time your counter opens!

the reason they are saying 4 hrs for some flights is some of the airports the lines have been extremely long for the tkt cntrs. for your early flight get to the airport at least 2 hrs prior to departure cause I don't think your tkt cntr opens until 5 am. 430 at the earliest. they could have changed the hours now with whats going on but I doubt it.

Try at least 3 hours for me! I was flying on AA tomorrow, but they cancelled both my flights, and rebooked me on Delta. So, I have to go to the AA counter first and get some paperwork from them to give to the DL counter people. Should be lots of fun standing in two lonnng lines. Now I'm just hoping the change my flights coming home so I can grab an extra day and get some Disney time in! Never been there on my own.

We fly from Dulles too! We leave Saturday. Our flight is at 9:30am but we are going to spend Friday night at a airport hotel. By the time you pay for long term parking, it's worth the few more dollars to stay at a hotel for the night, have free parking at the hotel and not be so rushed in the morning to get to the airport. Especially if you have a child!
Hey, n2mm, you must live somewhat close to me. It takes me about 1 hour to get to Dulles and I also live in WV.
