I have read through this post with great interest. It never ceases to amaze me the amount of truly rude players in this game. I realize that many are kids who may not know better, but truthfully, I teach my girls better than that. What are these parents teaching? Players who are adults that act like this, shame on them.
The bottom line here is that Pirates seems to really bring out mean and awful players. I am not sure what it is about this game but it is so frustrating. HM may have its share of rude players, but no where near the extent of pirates. I am not sure it is because you have to pay or you are forced to play with others for big points, but whatever, it just brings out the worst in people. If VMK wants to do a "ban marathon" all they need do is to jump in a few games of pirates undercover and I can assure you that many will bite the dust sort to speak. I wish that they would jump in these games from time to time to understand how bad it has gotten.
Mal, I do not believe you were out of line or should have been warned for harassment? Why? Because your actual comment was not directed at a specific individual, it was a general statment. Even though the choice of word, in this case ugly, may have been a poor choice in retrospect, the bottom line is that you did not single out an individual player but rather made a broad statement about players in general. How this could have been conceived as harrassment towards one single player is beyond me. For all those who disagree, keep in mind that she NEVER used a name when making this statement. I think everyone is missing this rather important fact. She made a general statement, plain and simple.
This is opposed to what I experienced yesterday on one of my mules in the game. I had gotten into a ship battle game, level 1 (yes, I pretty much still stink). We started playing and I was lucky enough to hit some really good shots and destroyed one of the players rather quickly. What do I read next?
"xxxx, you are a creep" "xxx, you are a lose her" "xxx, what out creep, I will get you next round". Now, this was not playful taunting in my opinion. I of course said nothing. We get into the next round and the same thing happens. "xxx, you are such a creep" "xxx, you lose her" "xxx, you a girl?" "xxx you must be I hat you". In each case my title was used specifically! So these comments were not directed to everyone but to me specifically. Where are the VMK watch dogs? Why can't they see this type of behavior? They seem to have the ability to monitor rooms and to send out warnings for specific conversations, why can't they do the same in pirates?
This is the reason I continue to remain a very quiet player. I go about my business of playing mini games and seldom engage in conversations. I would like to be more out going but rarely am. I feel a little lost at times in the game because I am too afraid to speak. These rude players have just gone way to far.
Final point, in my house such words as Lame and Ugly are also considered bad but also the word Stupid. Again it boils down to what we teach and what we learn.
