Give me a break-I got warned for Harassment

I'm sorry you got warned.

When people are rude in VMK, you can say "we all need good manners" or if someone is really awful say "you need better manners".

I really wish they'd put "rude" into the dictionary. There have been SO many times I've wanted to use it. Like "please stop being rude" and such. For now I wind up saying "not polite" instead. But there are some crazy words/phrases that DO go through that honestly shock me, so I'm not quite sure why they've yet to include "rude."

I did not call anyone a name I said "I hat ugly players" I should have worded it "I hat players who act ugly" but I typed it fast and hit send before I had time to think....still I am sorry I do not think it consituted a warning of any kind, period. If some one thought I was talking to them or about them they could have asked. Or if they were unsure what I meant by it again they could have asked.

You have to think of it as the way you said it, "I hat ugly players". That is what you said and the people reported you because you said something that offended them (and would have offended me also). Now, you're telling us you meant the word "ugly" as "rude"...I believe you and I understand, but those people could not read your mind and therefore could not determine what you "actually" meant.

Calling someone "ugly" is calling someone a name. Because you typed it fast as you say and because you were not thinking as you say, what you said was not right and constitues a warning. A warning is not a ban...only a warning.

The sentence "I hat ugly people" is self explainitory. How were the people to understand that isn't what you meant? You say they should have asked you to be more clear. What you said is pretty clear...to them.

I don't think you're a bad person and I know you wouldn't mean to say what you did...but you said it and you got a warning. I do believe it was appropriate. As long as you know you meant nothing by it, you shouldn't take it so "up in arms". Just next time when you're talking, watch what you say.

I COMPLETELY understand how rude players can be and I know exactly how frustrating it is. It would be nice to say "rude" to avoid such misunderstandings. As others have posted, there are other phrases you can use next time to avoid such complication. I'm sorry you got a warning...but at least it was only a warning. Had it been a ban, THEN you would have something to be furious about lol.

Mal, please don't take my post in a wrong way...please. I'm really mean this in the most respectful way and I don't aim to "nag" at anyone. Mal, I'm only stating my opinion and it is nothing agaisnt you. :goodvibes

A crazy boy in the pirates lobby was going to report someone for DANCING. He told someone to stop dancing because he will dc. The other player kept on dancing :cool1: . The crazy boy said he reported. :sad2: I sure hope the dancing boy did not get warned. I now see VMK really does not look into these reports much. The person who reported you probably noticed you because you are a CL and felt the need to report  . Sorry that happened.
When people say that I start dancing up a storm.

I'm sorry this happened to you, I've seen that happen several times...

Mal, I understand your need to vent. We have all seen and heard rude players. It is so difficult to get a point across with VMK limited dictionary. I have used this on various occasions "I wish your mummy had taught you some manners." "Acting this way is bad manners".

You will be ready the next time a rude player comes your way.

Let's see, just today...

I was called a BEACH for not moving from the Haunted Mansion steps, because I was at "his house".

"Reported" two times because I beat someone in the pirates game....

Told "I Hat You" from two people I would not give *free* stuff to....

Sorry this happened to you Mal... it seems to be happening more frequently these days... I must say that the word filter can be a GOOD thing some times.... ;) Like TG said, I have alway said something like "Use your Manners"

Hugs love!

I say, "roof" -- like, "How roof!!" Usually it's understood. ;)

Report is abused. It is as simple as that. What's worse, VMK will consisstently ignore reports of actual issues in the game (such as profanity, adult content, and scamming) in most cases to favor banning or warning people who have done nothing wrong but annoy some random person. It's one thing to report someone for the previously mentioned reasons, it's a completely different to report someone for not giving away their items (a friend of mine who had some rare items got banned for "item scamming" and when he sent a message explaining exactly what happen, he got a pretty automated response that carried the feeling of "We would help you with your problem, but frankly, we could care less.") rather than serious issues. VMK really needs to start screening their reports for legitimate reasons for reporting before they act upon it.

There are two words that have no business being in VMK, since their only purpose in this game can only be to hurt someone else: ugly and lame.

Even someone that is taking to use them in a good way, it comes across as trying to be hurtful.

Wait... how did roof make it to the dictionary? :rotfl2:

I'm still waiting for California (Adventure) and Indiana (Jones)!

Those won't make the Dictionary because they are places that people can easily tell personal info.

Mal...I'm truly sorry that did this. I know that they should really put the word rude in the dictionary. There are so many times I would love to use it.
And it takes longer to type not nice.

Hey wait a minute, that's my name! :rotfl2:

I just tell people to be nice, "Please be nice." If the person continues to be mean, I report them. In the report I say they are being mean to other players and I am going to use the ignore button. Now what I don't understand is why we are stuck with a limited dictionary when we report someone. I think we need a significantly less restricted vocabulary for reports.

Mal, I'm sorry this happened to you. I believe that as a CL you should have said something to those players, so in that respect, you did the right thing. I know you well enough to know that you now wish you had used different words. That's all that matters to me.

Perhaps the warning was more because you said "hat" than "ugly." Because "ugly" is permitted, even in context (cute or boot?) but dictionary dancing around the forbidden word "hate" is not.

So maybe the better alternative would have been to say "I don't like you when you play ugly"

It was a time thing not something I had a long time to think about and then type and hit enter. :guilty:

I know I could have used lots of different ways to say what I said given more time but this was a gut reaction to having listened to these players both on the docks before the game started then all during the game....they had already joined another game and I wanted to let them know it needed to stop while I could.

I am not the worlds best a dictionary dancing so I am alittle slow with finding the right words sometimes.

All that water under the bridge if VMK would allow us to use one simple word "rude" then none of this would have happened.

I think what I am most upset about is that I get a warning for harassment when I see people making much more offensive statements still playing the game.

In My house the words Hate and Ugly are considered bad words. Maybe saying it a little differently would have been better. I know you said Hat but you meant hate. Hate is too strong of a word to use in VMK.

thank you Lisa for that insight. I did just explain in the previous post why I used what I did (said what I said) and that the next time I will choose my words more carefully.

Hey- Mal- just wanted to let you know that I agree that the warning really was not fair...

I sure do wish we had a few more words we could say and use- and we have all learned from your misfortune here... so we can all do better in the future.

Like many I've seen quite a bit of rude behavior- rude should be added to the dictionary- has anyone suggested it be added? Perhaps we all should ask- stating the reason being that it is otherwise difficult to state the term and you really don't want to have to dance around to tell someone they are rude.

Well Mal, if this is true, I suppose the warning you received served its purpose.

Thanks Me ;)

I posted knowing that some would agree and others would not but I really wanted it out and if anyone can avoid a warning because they too get fed up with players being rude to others.....just take a minute and compose yourself and what you want to say so not to get a warning for "harassment" then I think this thread has helped.
