Give a Day, Get a Disney Day CLOSED

Wow...It sure went fast. Thanks Leah.
Here is an official word from Disney Parks.

Give a Day Get a Disney Day. Has officially reached its goal of inspiring one million people in 2010 to give back to their communities through volunteer service in the United States, Puerto Rico and Canada. Since the start of the program on Jan. 1, 2010, one million people have already volunteered or have committed to volunteer in their communities. Although registration is now closed and the program has ended, those who volunteered have until Dec.15, 2010, to redeem their free park ticket (certain block-out dates apply). Although the program has ended and a free Disney theme park ticket will no longer be provided, those still interested in volunteering may search for opportunities through HandsOn Network athttp://HandsOnNetwork.org.

Wow, that went quick. But....on the good side, it's wonderful that so many people stepped up to the plate and did a good deed. Disney folks are the best!!!!

Intresting, what about those that are set to volunteer? The organization we are set to volunteer with were so overwhelmed with people we don't actually go to volunteer until the end of the month. My guess is that we will not recieve anything for our time, which is ok we were going to donate our tickets but what about that? Hmmmmm

If you are fully registered through the web site, confirmed a date, and received an email, then you should be all set still. They are still giving vouchers to those who have already committed. They have only stopped registrations.

Hopefully this will act as a catalyst for folks to continue with volunteering :goodvibes

I agree, it was great for Disney to mobilize a bunch of folks who may have never considered volunteering, and now that they have experienced it, will most likely give of themselves again.

I also understand that Disney can't necessarily continue to take the financial hit that comes with giving away free park admissions by extending this promotion to last all year. But I have to wonder if the execs have considered the alternative of extending this very successful promotion past the two month mark and only including other reward options beside park admission, such as the fast pass, figurine, pins, etc? This would still give that extra push to those who may need it to get out there and volunteer and wouldn't have too big an impact on Disney's bottom line.

In the end, it's their business and they can choose how charitable to be with it, but wouldn't it make a great statement for Disney to extend this past the two month mark in the spirit of inspiring volunteerism? Who knows, it may bring more people to the parks, and it wouldn't hurt on the PR front either...

Just my $0.02 :)

John
