Give a Day Get a Day - Disappointed

FWIW - I looked up volunteer opportunities in the Boston area, of which there were plenty. However, only ONE said "Disney's Give a Day, Get a Day" at the top of it. Are we sure that you can use any of these to get the tickets or does it have to be the one sponsored by Disney itself? In other words, are these all part of the program, or is the Disney volunteer opportunity just listed in with many others coordinated by the volunteer organization?

My family already does a lot of volunteering - but nothing that works with the Disney thing. :confused3 It's very frustrating. But oh well, it won't stop the volunteering that we do.

:thumbsup2

Volunteering means "to give" not to expect something back.

Did you go through the Official Disney - Give a Day, Get a Day Website? I thought all those listed worked.

This was through the link posted on the first page of this thread. I am already signed up with Disney for info. and will be sure to go through them. Just want to make sure I (and others) are doing the right thing. I need my tickets for February.:)

Hi Helene, Hugs to the Cherub, :wave2:
How far from Pottsville are you. There are hundreds there. Minersville has several for Cancer society too.

Di

I am 5 minutes away from Pottsville! I am amazed at how many are around me! I dont know if we would take advantage of this offer or not I was just checking out prices on the Disney site because he saw a new offer from Disney about getting a 750$ gift card... I was just checking out prices to the Beach Club... I didn't hear a no! :yay::yay:

I'm so excited! I think we've found a great volunteer opportunity!

It's hosting a fleece blanket making party in our home. The blankets go to children who suddenly find themselves in a foster care situation. From what I can gather, I'd invite a bunch of friends to bring some fleece to my house and we would gather together to make some blankets.

Children as young as six can participate. I'll serve refreshments and then once the blankets are made, I'll deliver them to the organization, which is about an hour away.

Sounds great to me!

You must live in Mid Michigan. That is the only opportunity for us in the Lansing area. We've already emailed the organizer and hopefully can do this quickly so that we can have our tickets for our 1 day at WDW on Feb 6. If not, oh well. It just a bonus on top of making someone else's life a little better :)

There were lots of opportunities available in my area. It's easy to see the events. The problem was trying to register for it. I tried over and over again throughout the day starting at 10:30am and it finally went through tonight. Was able to sign up myself and dd12.

Okay, Help!! I get through the Disney wbsite and then when it goes to the Handsonnetwork site it gives a error. so I dont know if I am registered or halfway registered.

Make sure you watch your dates, You cant use the tickets on $thof July and most of spring break.

25. Can I give the free ticket to someone else?
The ticket is non-transferable so you may not give it to someone else, but you may donate your ticket to one of the following non-profit organizations designated by Disney Parks through this site:

Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Florida
Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern California
Dreams Take Flight Canada

26. I donated my ticket, and now I’ve changed my mind. Can I get it back, or re-volunteer for another ticket?
No. The decision to donate your ticket is irreversible, as the donated tickets will be distributed to the designated non-profit organizations throughout the year.

27. Is there an expiration date for my free theme park ticket?
Yes. December 15, 2010 is the last day that you may redeem your voucher for your free ticket. Once your voucher is redeemed for the one-day, one- theme park ticket , your ticket will be valid for use only on that day of redemption.

28. When is my free Disney theme park ticket valid for use? Are there any dates I can't use my ticket?
Your voucher for a free ticket to enter one of the Disney theme parks may be redeemed through December 15, 2010, and must be redeemed and used on the same day. Please note, however, that on the following days, you will not be allowed to redeem your voucher for a free ticket:

Walt Disney World® Resort: March 29 - April 8 and July 4, 2010
The Disneyland® Resort: February 13-14, March 21, June 21-22, July 4, November 21, December 11-12, 2010

Volunteer opportunities

With the hands on link, there was only 1 near us, and it was only one day (that we're unavailable, of course!) This one had many more. Still sparse on the under-10 year old crowd, but lots more other options- Red Cross blood drives, Project Linus, lots of things.

In my area, almost all of the opportunities are for weekdays, or you have to be 18. My DD is 14, and I'm hoping to find one we can do together. But there's no way I can take a day off of work. They should have more opportunities on the weekends.

There were very few opportunities available through the official Disney site. The site listed probably 10 opportunities in the Dallas area. Only 1 was for children under 14. There were three pages listed but the last page and a half was for opportunities in Oklahoma.

It's not real far from Dallas but it is still at least an hour not including drive time.

Not much different in Lexington either. There is construction and receptionist listings and not much else. Out of 55 opportunities listed, 52 are more than an hour away.

I'll stick with coaching baseball and spending time with the kids at church.

This happened to me too. You are only halfway registered and if you have to start all over again on the Disney site it will say you already used this email address so try again tomorrow. I just used another email address because I didn't want to lose the volunteer spot I wanted. The third email address I used finally got us registered.

So, how exactly do you sign up? I am clicking on the search and sign up tab, and it takes me to search. I don't see anything to sign up. I see log in to manage your account, and I have an account which keeps not working(did reset password several times, but it still says it is not valid), so I want to use a different email address. Where do I go to sign up using a different email address?

Ugh! I can get to the last page but then when I try to submit it says "stack overflow, line 47". I don't know what that is or how to fix it?:confused3 I've spent more time trying to sign up to volunteer than it will actually take to volunteer. Hope I get through eventually.:surfweb:

Go through link above. Search for the volunteer opportunities near you. Underneath each opportunity it will say "Show Details". Click on that and there will be a "Register Now" button to click on. You will then be on the registration page where you can use whatever email address you like.

You will have an account AFTER you complete registration.

Search and Sign Up, enter your zip, find a program you're interested in, click on Show Details, if it's the one you want then click Register Now

Good luck! I've been attempting this almost nonstop for 24 hours.

When I am being sent to another page, I hold the control key down so it opens another window, and also allows security to not error by leaving the site I am on.

When i regester later I will see this works.

My sis just completed her registration just now. Took about 5 min. It took me all day yesterday to do it! But if I had waited until today, the spots I wanted would have been gone.
When I did it yesterday, I checked the hands on agreement page items and clicked to proceed and would get an error message on the next page. I just went back to the agreement page and hit enter again. Kept getting error on next page. So I went back and forth between these two pages for a couple hours and it finally went through to final hands on page where you check the date you want and who is volunteering.

It looks like the register now button only appears if there is a set time for the volunteer opportunity. For others, I get a contact form to fill out and then click on express interest and you don't get to register.:confused3
