DAY 1 May 10th 2006
Many thanks to ELY3857, whose help has proved invaluable in being able to show you my photos. Without her there would have been no trip report some of you by the end of it might be wishing there hadnt!!!
Went to bed the previous night at about 10pm really looking forward to a good nights sleep. I had checked in on-line on the Tuesday (in works time, of course!) so no need to rise at the crack of dawn. Andy had decided to feed the dog with chicken fried rice from the local Chinese takeaway. At about midnight I found myself stood in our conservatory, with the back door open and the dog wandering round the garden trying to find a good place to deposit the fried rice!! I kept telling him in a hushed but frantic voice that I had to be up at 6am and if he didnt hurry up I would lock him out! In the end I did lock him out at about 1.20am (he has got a kennel to go into).
I-pod starts playing music at 6am (I dont have a normal alarm clock) and Lucy has set the i-pod to start with From Paris to Berlin. Great!
Take the dog for a half hour walk round the fields muttering to him as I am walking round. Needless to say he doesnt do what I have taken him for because hes done it all during the night!
Kara and I battle over the shower, the hairdryer and the hair straighteners. She has her own hairdryer and straighteners (exactly the same make as mine) but insists mine are better and she needs to use mine. The straighteners have to cool down to be put inside the suitcase and they are just not doing it fast enough so they are put outside on the grass!!
Straighteners packed, luggage loaded and last minute instructions to Andy about what and when to feed the dog, fish and guinea pigs, where the wills are and the writing down of hotel telephone numbers, flight numbers, vets telephone numbers we are off on our first and probably last Girls on Tour Florida 2006 trip.
Drive to Manchester Airport took only half an hour and the farewell was much shorter. So much for Andy parking the car and coming in to say a movie style goodbye! Got to rush, late for work!! Kids got a kiss and I got a kiss plus a few tears ok, it was me filling up!!
Check in was uneventful other than pretending we were going into the first class line and then just veering off to the left at the last minute to join the normal people. I really thought that my trendy new suitcases might have persuaded the check in girls that we deserved an up-grade they obviously thought different.
However .it turned out the plane was only a quarter full (or is it three quarters empty?). We now plan tactics for obtaining an aisle each with military precision.
Andy had kindly given me £150 to blow at the airport which I promptly did!! Bacon butties all round, magazines, juicy tubes (for any men reading this, you will have to ask a female about this!) and cigarettes (my one and only vice honestly?!)
Had to take the obligatory photo of the plane: same one as last year and the year before that but you still have to take the picture!
Boarded the plane, seatbelt sign goes off and tactics worked for gaining an aisle each.
Watched Memories of a Geisha and then fell asleep.
Arrived 8 hours later at Orlando Airport refreshed and wide awake. Luggage all arrives in one piece and unmarked and we catch the Mears transport to CSR first drop off (dont you just love that) and checked in. Given 8a, which I had asked for, and got the luggage guys to take us round to the room. Quick change and straight to the Dig Site. Buy refillable mug and promptly fall asleep in the sun!! 3 hours later wake up
Unpack, shower and then realise that the GHDs dont work. Kara and I decide that bad hair days will have to be the order of the day and pack the hairdryer and the straighteners back into the suitcases.
Walked round to the Pepper Market to have something to eat we were the only ones eating outside not because we didnt want to pay the 10% extra but that the weather was so beautiful. Must be an English thing because we got some very strange looks!!
Bed at 9.30pm.
I promise the next installements wont be so long and boring
