Here we are, three women who want to go get some magic. We started talking about doing this last May, when we were all there, plus K's DH. After sorting out dates, we ended up planning for Halloween weekend...how cool, to be able to go to the H'ween party AND the Food and Wine Festival, which I have been wanting to go to for several years! Then, in the last month before the trip....some not-so-magical moments happened, as K lost a family member, and then my bf broke up with me, not to mention I'm having unemployment stress. As K and I were dealing with our issues, the friendship between me and C was also having some problems, though we had had our ups and downs before. uh, oh...we still need magic, but are we gonna have any fun?? Well, I decided that the only way was to put on a brave face, try not to be too sad (though I miss my bf terribly, but can't imagine K's loss, which has to be really hard), and look for all the pixie dust we can find!
K and I travelled together (same flights) and were to meet up with C in Orlando. Had some nice chats with K, who gave me a tiny ray of hope that all was not completely lost with the bf...(yeah, I know the chances are remote that we'll get back together, but for now, I have to have that little bit of hope to get through the days, so cut me some slack please, and do NOT recommend that new book that's out)
Upon our arrival to MCO, we were greeted by Carlos, our towncar driver from Quicksilver. He was polite and professional, and didn't fuss too much that our plane was about 15-20 min. late. We had our quick grocery stop at Publix for some snacks, Diet coke, and bottled water, and were quickly on our way to the resort.
The Pop Century resort is so cool!! Like, Groovy, man!!
I usually stay in deluxe, with one stay this year in a moderate...so I wondered if I would like a value resort (chosen because of end-of-year cash flow issues), and I sure like this one!! The theming is adorable (I have great pics I'll try to learn how to post), and our room was small, but comfortable and suited our needs just fine. We stayed in the 50's, room 3415, which overlooked the lake (wonder if that was an upgrade? we were to have standard room) and the partially built other half. Kindof sad...but I have faith that it will be completed one day and be just as cute. The bowling pin pool is definitely long enough to swim laps in, as I had asked about before I went...too bad I blew off all my training for the weekend and didn't even go near the water!!
After getting checked in and resting, we ate a quick meal at the food court and headed to the bus to go to MNSSHP, something none of us had done before!! And Pal Mickey was raring to go with his skeleton costume on, and his tiny pumpkin for trick-or-treating!! (ok, now I gotta learn how to post pics!)
We went in, checked out some shopping and the fall decorations, then went to Tomorrowland, anticipating being herded over there (it was a little after 6 pm). Stitch was open, with a 15 min. posted wait time (actual time, thanks to C the time-watcher, was 16 min). Sorry, but I liked AE way better. At least I got to say Hi to Skippy, poor little fella. Hopefully the kids this new version is aimed at will like it. We went on Buzz with minimal wait next, then, since it was just after 7, I figured Tomorrowland was going to stay busy, with crowds heading for Fantasyland and ToonTown, so we went to Adventureland, hitting the trick-or-treat stops we saw along the way. Jungle Cruise was very cool at night. Then POTC, and a quick hug from Mr. Smee. HM was a must-do for Halloween, and we got our photo done nearby. Can't wait to see how it turned out!
Then a little magic happened...as we walked through Fantasyland, I saw Cinderella's carriage. It is so beautiful!! And I am such a hopeless romantic anyway. I just had to walk over there and get in line to get my picture by it. And with one person to go in line to get pics ahead of us...who walks out but the Fairy Godmother! I just about lost it! I know she is completely magical, at least in my eyes! I had gotten some pixie dust from her earlier this year, shortly after my exbf and I started dating...and here she was to give me a hug now, when I really needed it! That was definitely one of the major highlights of the trip (I know...I'm so sappy).
C also had a little fun, as Suzy and Perla came out. Suzy was all scared of C, who had cat ears on. It took us a few moments to figure that out. But then C made up with Suzy by offering her treat bag to her, which she loved!
We rode Peter Pan's flight, and walked through Toontown for treats and visiting a couple of characters, including Donald Duck in his cute pumpkin costume. He liked Pal Mickey's costume.
We did the walk from ToonTown to Tomorrowland, picking up treats, and then cut over to Main Street to get off our feet and wait for the fireworks and parade. Had some popcorn while waiting. I loved the perimeter fireworks, and the show was nice, but I'm partial to Wishes. The parade was super cool...including the Headless Horseman! That horse is huge!
After the parade, we were fading a little, but managed to go see the Country Bears (a new experience for me, missed it the last 8 trips! K was just a-singing along!), and a dark ride on BTMRR. Then we dragged ourselves back to the POP for a good night's rest.
