I started on a new meal planning service, I've used E-mealz in the past... but.... whoever writes them tends to go for the heavy, OMG I'm so full, I can't believe I'm using this (can of cream soup/crushed crackers/can of refrigerated biscuits), bijillion calories meals. Took a peek at their vegetarian meals.. uhhh hmmm, which fake meat substance (fake sausage, fake burgers, tempeh, seitan.. gah!!!) will we use today? I don't mind the
occasional veggie burger. The point of going veg is to eat a wide variety of plant based foods, not to make the typical meal but substitute some pre-made processed thing for the meat...
sometimes that's fine.. but not everyday! Too expensive!
Anyway, we're using the meal planning from Fresh20. Their style is all fresh ingredients (no frozen, no canned), of course I need my budget cutting spin because produce, a fresh tomato for example, in a MN winter is :
A. expensive
B. not very good in taste
C. likely not a great nutritional value as it has been shipped across the world, sat in a warehouse, sits on the grocery shelf (getting sprayed on every few minutes if it's a leafy green).
Nothing wrong with frozen (nothing added) vegetables or canned tomato (no salt/no sugar added).
sooooooooooooo... the point.. I have one in this rambling somewhere.. somewhere.... file error, can not be found..
ohh yeah
We like it!
Takes away the "stare at the fridge" moment each evening. No more hearing "what are we having" from each member of the family - I point at the day's list tacked to the fridge. Don't like it? Starve!
I got the plan for cheap. Duhhhh of course I did, says the coupon crazed lady. It was on a daily deal site 50% off , plus had some credit left it was only $7 for 6 months. Yay me!
I'm making a stir fry tonight - red bell peppers, mushroom, green onion, tofu (don't sneer at the mysterious wonder that is tofu, it's actually yummy if you do it right. "Mmmmm tofu" drool Homer style).
What are you having?
