So, question for you ladies......I'm considering taking Cassidy (DD15) to DL for a Mother/Daughter 16th birthday trip, her birthday is in early July. I can use our timeshare and stay on points (so basically free, just the valet fee), if we go over her bday weekend its 1700 points, if I go the week before (July 4th week so I'd spend the 4th away from DD12 and Micah) we can do the whole week (M-F) for 1300 points.....or....we can go ON her bday and stay 4 nights for 850 points....... what to do what to do..........I don't think I should stay on-site, I think it's more cost effective to stay at the Peacock........and if I stay at the Peacock I can swing for something special for us, like F! seating or something like that.....
I haven't talked to her yet, I want it to be a sort of surprise if I do it. Thoughts??

Happy almost Wednesday.. for me anyway...:)

We had a good visit with the in-laws. :thumbsup2

We did go to the Mexican restaurant, all of us but my MIL liked it .. her peeve was her corn tortillas were cold. I wouldn't have been happy either (then again, she didn't ask for new tortillas either.. so..??). My dish wasn't exactly what I expected but simple and tasty -- hand made flour tortillas OMG! YUM! Hubby was "meh" because the portion sizes were smaller than our usual place (which is overwhelming, giant, too much to eat and the prices match it). For a small mom/pop place it was "just right" but not a place where we would make a special trip.

Hubby did some art pieces while they were here. Pics on my facebook page. A skeleton sitting on a chair playing a guitar, made from Sculpey, for his mom. She had always wanted the little Dia de los Muertos figures but didn't know where to buy them for a reasonable cost. Turned out awesome! And some shoes for his brother with zombies and character from Resident Evil game/movies. He finished them in under 2 hours, they looked amazing!

After posting the pictures, my son had several of his friends ask "can he do XXXXX for me???" Now he realizes that it's time to set up an Etsy, craft fair booth or something. If you sell stuff, give me some tips to set up this little business. :teacher:

Capri- eeeee, allergies are such a pain! Hopefully it won't happen again.
I have a latex sensitivity that has crossed into an oral response/allergy to avocado. Sniff sniff, no more guacomole. wahhh. It's the only thing that bothered me, but I had a weird reaction that makes me wonder if there is something more I am allergic to now. The last night of the diva trip, Alison had a corn dog from the cart on Main Street. She shared her packaged apple slices with me, after a few pieces I got the itchy oral response that I get from avocados (itchy mouth, burning ears, scratchy throat). Luckily I had an anti-histamine med in my "bring it just in case" bag of assorted medications. That stopped the itchy mouth and I was fine.

I looked online trying to find an ingredient label to see if it was some weird thing like those warnings of "manufactured in some facility as nuts" blah blah blah. Couldn't find it. Doubt they use latex gloves for food handling at Disneyland, so I am completely stumped. :confused3 Hope I'm not allergic to apples, that would suck! Doing some reading on the latex sensitivity, more exposure to the allergen can cause worse symptoms -- you know the rush to the ER, can't breath kinda symptoms. :scared1:

So exciting to see all the talk of the mini meet. I hope it works out and it is on a weekend that I can go. It sounds so fun!!

I too love all those 80's movies and I own pretty much all of them. I graduated in 85 so those were all the movies I watched WHILE in high school myself so lots of good memories. :) In fact my girls and I just watched Breakfast Club again the other day. CLASSIC. Maybe it's just me but I haven't seen any movies recently that even compare to those. LOVE em!!

Kerri we took my oldest on her 16th and I guess it just depends on what is more important/fun to your dd. Personally I would save the money on the room and do some fun stuff in the parks. I think F or something similiar would be awesome and a nice dinner and perhaps order a cake for her. We did that and my dd loved it. They have really cool gift baskets you can order too although not sure if you have to be staying onsight.

I am sure whatever you decide it will be fun!!

Hope everyone has a great day!!

Hello, ladies!! Happy Hump Day!

Good afternoon!
IT'S ONLY TUESDAY
But now, it's Wednesday!!

My absolute favorite movie from that same time is Breakfast Club! I've seen it so many times, I think I could recite all the lines!!
I love the Breakfast Club. We watched it not that long ago. The older kids had already seen it, but I introduced it to the twins who also enjoyed it.

I am, I have photos of Miss Josie on my FB page. She's 3. :)
Awww. Well, now how the heck did I miss that?? I'll have to go take a peek...

Howard: Dong. Where is my automobile?
Long Duk Dong: Oto-mo-biiile?
:lmao: I love it.

Got some Mickey mail for our upcoming trip to WDW today!!
How fun!!!! I want some Mickey Mail!! :cool1:

If it were me, I'd want to be home for the 4th. And she might want to be home on her actual birthday maybe to spend time with friends and such. So, if I were planning it, I'd go her birthday weekend.

However, if you don't care about being home on the 4th, or she doesn't care about hanging with friends on her birthday, then go at a time that uses less points.

Regardless of when you go, I think staying off site is the way to go. Knowing you two, you won't be in the room much anyway, so why not use the money for fun surprises like the Fantasmic seating and other things.

I saw those! They were really cool. ::yes::

Good morning ladies!
Today I'm off to take my nursing entrance exam! Fun stuff!
Capri- what a way to spend a kid free night! Bummer!
Sixteen Candles is my favorite movie!

At least they are big guys and so it sort of makes sense. My son, Adam, you've seen his photos, he's on the small side, and he can still eat a ton!! Where does it all go????
:

That's true Beth. Adam is pretty slim. Maybe he's lucky and just has super duper metabolism?? I wish they could bottle that up!!!

I would steer clear from 4th of July!!! It will be a day that reaches capacity especially in the evening!

If she doesn't mind misses her actually birthday at home, I would go for that and save some points. I know in my family we only do something small on their actually birthday (unless it falls on the weekend) and we usually have a bigger celebration just sometime in their birthday month.

Good luck with your decision. It should be fun no matter what date you decide.

Me, too!!! :rotfl: I would love to be able to eat the way he does and not gain. Sometimes I feel like if I even look at something delicious, I gain weight.

My DD and I always took a special mother/daughter trip during her birthday month ... also July. :goodvibes It was always our special time together and she's now 30 and we still manage to take at least one trip a year that's just us! It's a nice tradition.

Will you being doing anything besides Disney while you are there? We always took one day and headed to Huntington Beach .... teenage girls just seem to love that beach .... I'm a Newport Beach girl myself. We'd wander thru all the surf shops and she'd pick out a special t-shirt or whatever. We'd have lunch at one of the outside places on the beach .... lately it's been Dukes ... it's a Jimmy Buffett thing. Then around sunset we'd head back to an evening of fun at Disney!

Sniff sniff, no more guacomole. wahhh. :
You can make guac using peas. I've never tried it but maybe with enough onion, garlic and chilis it might taste close.
Breakfast Club . CLASSIC.
I love that movie too. Each character is so unique.

Best of luck to you!
This is going to show my age but I liked it when nurses wore white dresses and their white nursing caps. They wore them when I was in the hospital having Sarah and I really liked the look.So professional.

Me too!!!! I have to say tho, I'm busy for the next 5 weekends......lol My schedule gets packed fast, especially over the summer. :) I think I'm free the 31st & 1st but that may even be booked now.....LOL

I did a gift basket for Micah when we stayed at the PPH one year, but we split the cost of that with my BFF and her then DBF (now DH) so it wasn't so "bad". lol I was thinking dinner at BB or AG (we both love the food at AG) or the F! seating......or maybe a tour......

I would steer clear from 4th of July!!! It will be a day that reaches capacity especially in the evening!

We went one year on the 4th (we had Premium's then) and it wasn't too bad, until that night. I guess a lot of people came in to watch the fireworks, we didn't, we just watched them a different night but it was still pretty crowded. I think she's be thrilled to go to DL with me on her bday, I don't think she'd be upset at missing a party with friends at all, but if she was I can throw her a party the Saturday before we go......we always let the bday person chose their bday meal (usually out) and do ice cream or something like that. :)

I have 3 girls, I wasn't able to do anything special with each one every year so I thought it might be fun to do a "Sweet 16" type of trip with her. She and I have a similar love of Disney (so does DD12) so I think it could be a lot of fun. Altho she likes to ride some rides I prefer to skip....like Space or Screamin', I mean I'll do them once while we are there but I don't like to do them too many times, they make me  LOL.
We probably wouldn't do the beach, she and I are extremely fair skinned, basically if I'm in the sun for 10-20 minutes without sunscreen (or being fully covered) I burn, and I don't just mean burn, I mean fry.....I will turn lobster red in under 20 minutes. She's the same way, it's our fair Irish skin I guess. Either way, we try to go to Santa Cruz once a month in the summer months so we get our beach time in. :)

I think we should stay off-site too, if I get our tickets via AAA we can have the free parking (and I'm considering getting myself a PAP because I want to come back to the Diva trip next year, so that would just make sense lol) I just wanted to see what others thought. :) You are correct about our touring style, we won't be in the room all that much at all. LOL

I like being at home for the 4th, just because I like to spend it with my family, but if I did take it off and go to DL I wouldn't have to use paid time off because it's a paid holiday, that's why I was sort of considering that week, we'd be going early enough to miss traffic on the way there and coming back late enough to miss it coming back and we'd be back in time for her to have a party at home....but again, we can do the party the day before we go too.....My budget would be around $500, which doesn't include the gas to get there, that would be budgeted separately, I definitely think we can do a nice long 4 days with that kind of money. :) Especially for 2 people, we are both pretty "cheap". LOL

Then I would just have to decide between BB, AG & F! dessert seating, altho maybe we could do the F! seating AND do WoC dining at AG.....she really likes AG and WoC is her favorite...hmmmmmmm

Oh and her birthday is July 8th, so it's a Sunday, so if we went on Sunday (her birthday) that would still be OK right? :cutie: Maybe I should ask her.......:rotfl:

Anyone else feel like running away today?? There's plenty of room.... but I call the pink chair! :p

Sounds like fun any way you do it! Since it's a special trip, I think staying on property would be nice. I see her birthday is the 8th... mine is the 6th. I've never been on my birthday because of its proximity to the 4th weekend.

And since someone beat me to the purple chair, I'll take the aqua blue one on the end next to Beth.... aloha..... I'll bring the Captain Morgan.

Oh Kerri I SO know what you mean. We usually have sports year round but we got lucky this year and we have had the last few weekends off. My girls just started "new" stuff this past week and my older one has track prac EVERY day and then they both start swim the first week of April which is ALSO every day. So between those two things, my younger one doing talent show, my older one in ballet plus work and just life it is nuts LOL. But I will have till about mid May before I have to go to any swim meets and then summer gets pretty crazy. But depending on when everyone decided I may even skip a meet to go. Some of the meets are "away" and I let the ex take them to those. It means getting up at 4 or 5 a.m. to get there and its LONG days. So I would gladly ditch one for a mini meet ;)

I agree with the others that whatever you do I think you will have a great time. If she is a disney lover I am sure she will love it no matter what! We are taking my older one for her birthday which is New Year's Eve so that is EVEN crazier than the 4th lol. But since her birthday is on a holiday and it is always hard we told her we would splurge a few times on special birthdays and do something really fun. So we are doing that for her 13th and the "hope" is for her 16th to do NYE in Times Square. But I have a few years so who knows but that is the plan. ;)

Love the tropical pics. When mom and I were planning our summer vacay we seriously were thinking about Hawaii or Mexico and the girls and I would be LOVE to go but the stupid airfare is putting an cabosh on that. So as usual it is back to socal but I love it there to so still excited!! Just hope all the madness of carsland isn't nuts!! ;)

Ok fine, since purple and blue are gone.....I'll take the green one.....*sigh*

I want purple!!! Let's go!!!

You have to fight me for it! LOL

It would be nice to stay on-site, we've only done that twice. But it would also be nice to have that money to spend elsewhere so I'm leaning heavily towards staying at the Peacock.......
blue chair thief! LOL

Cassidy is a huge Disney fan, she really is. She's a Sophomore and wears Disney clothes to school, my oldest wouldn't have done that. LOL :)
I think your birthday plans sound fun!! I hope you get to do NYE in NYC, that would be pretty epic!

Heading to LA on Monday to see my DS and DD. Our APs have expired so we'll be purchasing new one .... I'll need it for the Diva trip .... right? :rolleyes1 On Wednesday my DD and I will spend all day at DL. Saturday will be Newport Beach and then DL in the evening. If I can figure out the train and bus system I think I'll do a solo day on Thurs. Hope to meet my DS for lunch on Tues. Sunday will be watching both DD and DS play softball ... yes they are both over 30 but still love to have their mama at their games. :cool1:
