I guess it's a real hot button for me. I don't agree with it and never will. I think they already ask too much of kids these days. Why add extra so called "fun" projects that are expensive and not fun for anyone. And most of these projects will not effect their learning one way or the other. It just makes more work. But that's just my opinion. :)

You could always pull them out and homeschool them, Beth. Then you would never have to do a stupid, meaningless project again EVER. ;)

Teachers know who did their own project, who had help and who's parents did their's. The kids are with them m-f 8-3. They know what kind of work the kid is capable of.

And for big group shots Stacielee, I think it would be a good idea to have someone check over the card that has those shots on it. That way you know if it came out so you can re-do it if needed (better to find out while everyone's still there, right?).

Good idea, Molly. Another thing I thought of while reading your post is that when we did have a group picture taken, EVERYONE put it on their Photopass card so we had the same picture SEVERAL times! Maybe we should have one or two, or just a very small number of cards that are used exclusively for the LARGE group photos, the ones where everyone or almost everyone is there. I know there will be smaller groups of us who have pictures taken, but even with that, not everyone in the group needs to put it on their card!!! That was one thing that made the account so huge!!

I am 99.9999999% sure that this is accurate.

They don't put it onto an account at all while you're looking, so I can't think of a way it could mess things up.

glad to see you back here Molly!

Beth I am SO with you there. I mean what is with given 2nd 3rd or even 1st graders so much dang homework. SHEESH. I mean it takes my girls 2 hours to do it for god's sake. My 2nd grader has a math page front and back. An english page front and back. She has to write her spelling words (25 of them) 4 times over, plus tell me her sight words, plus read this passage to me twice every night plus read for 20 minutes, gee am I forgetting anything here? This is EVERY flippin night! It is a lot and we have bible study two nights a week, soccer practice 2 nights a week and girl scouts every other Friday. Then we have soccer GAMES every Saturday and church every Sunday. NO rest for the weary! Then as soon as soccer ends there is basketball then swim team. WHEW! Whenever I complain my mom tells me in her oh so lovely snarky tone "that's what it means to be a soccer mom". Oh and did I mention I work part time too?

I know I know I got myself into this. But sheesh. And hey I have to have time to get on here too! I mean I can't neglect this place for heaven's sake. So what do I give up you ask? Well my housework of course. And cook? Who needs homecooked meals when there is fast food and microwaves right?

Anyway back to our original programming, I should be named windy because that is what I am but anyway I totally am with ya on that homework thing! When we went to DW in 05 Katy was in kindergarten and they gave me a stack of homework 2 inches thick. This for a 5 year old!

I thought I would post a picture of me and my mom so you guys would recognize us at the meet and since I always like to know who the heck I am talking to. I have been reading the TR from last time and again the mini meet and I am just the kind of person who likes to put names to faces. I have been trying to figure out who is who by screennames/real names and then the pics from April and the mini meet.

I got to thinking after reading over my posts you guys probably think I am some weird broad. So anyway here is a pic of my mom and I and I will post it again or hopefully I will post some pics from our DW trip when we get back. But anyway this is us.

I am just against the projects all together. I don't care what the teacher or anyone says, they are not necessary. Not when an 8 year old is coming home with two hours worth of spelling, reading, math, etc every night. It's ridiculous to add more work to that. We usually end up working on projects on the weekend because there isn't time during the week, which makes me even more mad because that's there rest time.

I so agree. We did'nt have that much homework, but the projects are so useless.

Who cares if I built a lodge in 8th grade? What did it teach me, other than pretend suede fabric, wet and draped over sticks, looks kinda real but you would never get animal skins THAT big in real size. :)

It's just so pointless.

Teachers know who did their own project, who had help and who's parents did their's. The kids are with them m-f 8-3. They know what kind of work the kid is capable of.

It's possible that all teachers get that nowadays. But hubby's self-esteem was very harmed, and he's still getting over it, b/c his parents *did not believe him* when he told them that his classmates got help. They said he was lying about it. And his grades reflected what his self-made projects looked like in comparison to his classmates' parent-assisted projects looked like. The teacher graded as though they were all equal, which harmed his grade, and his parents didn't believe him which harmed his overall being. Poor hubby. He was so smart all through school but even to this day thinks of himself as a dumb person, b/c of all of that. Meanwhile college educated co-workers ask HIM how to make programs at work, when he's self-taught!

Oh wow, that would make for a bloated CD!

You know, since everyone will be there at once, and it's not like a "budget board" share where people are traveling at all different times, it wouldn't be horrible if you gave out the account's log-in info. If people had that, if they were tempted to put their cards online, they could use THAT account and it wouldn't destroy anything. Things might be in really floopy order, but that's not the end of the world, and it's nowhere near as bad as if people want to put pix online and use their own b/c they don't have the official one.

glad to see you back here Molly!

Gracias.

My status. I'm back to the unknown! I'm doing this expensive San Diego trip* starting Nov 1 ending at Disney Nov 5, missing La Tooch (how you like that one, eh?) by a day augh. We're having some heavy hope that we can do a quick family trip in December.

We are planning a trip in March, but it's for hubby's b'day at the end of the month! Hubby totally supports me going on these trips, but it sure seems crazy for me to go in March twice, right? Now I'm suggesting that he take a solo trip for his b'day so that I'm at home with DS. But he's not the solo trip kinda guy...maybe I'll suggest he take E while I stay home, but to me that seems like I'm getting ANOTHER vacation, doesn't it?

:rotfl:

I was thinking "I'll jump down for Saturday night through Monday" b/c of the Segway tour, but I see it's all full! Drat!

I'm glad this trip was scheduled during non-blocked-out days! Takes one "negative" away from our deliberations. :goodvibes

*gosh I wish I had booked with Southwest instead of Virgin Airways down and Alaska back up. Why? Because I don't want to go, but I'd lose my money if I canceled or changed the trips. The trip is to see Madonna and frankly I'm not impressed with her right now and wouldn't mind just having the leader of this San Diego trip sell my really really really expensive ticket. Harumph.

I think two is important. Not everyone can be there all the time. I loved having the two last year. I don't know if it's an option, but maybe we can reorder some of the brown and pink ones from last year and use that for one day?
I love the tye dye ones. I know Amy (grumpyvet) makes them, too. I don't know if she's able/willing to do a large number of them, but I do know she makes them.
I do like zazzle
I am trying to catch up here, and it is taking some time.

Michelle, I think this is a great idea. I think most of us liked that shirt, and it would be nice to be able to wear it again. :goodvibes

aahhh Kelmac.. what a great picture of you and your mother! That's a keeper for sure! Thanks for sharing it.:goodvibes

Hi all wow t-shirt time means the trip is around the corner. I am find with any shirt as long as it does not have a year on it. So I can wear it for longer than a week:goodvibes

Plan on wearing last years shirt for March cause it still fits both in body and in theme :)

oh an one that I do not have to tye dye myself cause that would be a disaster in the making :)

well I hope you make it March--otherwise I need to find a new roomie!

Thanks. I mean you guys have never met me or anything and I wouldn't want to be accused of being one of Disney Inspired's stalker internet men or anything! ;) Although with my short haircut I have been accused of such at things such as drive thru restaurants. :confused3 But hey whatever. I roll with it. I'm old and I don't do the teeny bopper hair any more. I could whip out my 80's Bride of Frankenstein pics and REALLY show you what a can of hair spray can do but we won't go there! :scared1:

Actually that might be fun for some of us older types to whip out the high school photos or 80's photos. Now THAT would be a riot. I have done that on my military wives website. (my dh is ex Army) and that is good for some serious tears and wet drawers! Some of those 80's do's and clothes. AHHH good times.

But I digress... Anyway thanks for the compliment and seriously mom and I aren't usually those cutsy twosies that match and all that crap. Don't know how we ended up with both wearing purple :confused3 But my mom loves to drink wine and LOVES to have fun. Everything I have mentioned she said she was up for even those dang segways. But I am NOT going to fall on my face even for YOU guys! Nope not gonna do it! I draw the line! But I WILL go on TOT 50 times in a row for anyone that's up for that. LOVE that ride!

Here I go again. Talking too much. Anyway back to our regularly scheduled programming. Can you tell I'm bored? Dh just took the kids to soccer and I'm all alone. :cool1:

Tinkermell, Lulubelle and disney-inspired I got all your PM's and have you added for Chippendales.....errr, I mean Chip and Dale's. ;)

Beth- Can you please add them to the first page? Thanks!

I'll join that group! ;)

I figured you would. Will Hef let you out for the night?

Ugh! I am sitting here in Statistics supposed to be studying since I have an exam tonight. And you know what? I don't want to. Someone want to change places with me? Someone? Anyone? Bueller?

I'm back. I've noted everyone's requests and will update the front page in a sec. Always make sure to double check though just in case I miss someone. Thanks!!

I bought all the crap for the school projects. I do not do the project for them but I will help them, especially the twins who are only 8. I mean come on, they need some help.

I am just against the projects all together. I don't care what the teacher or anyone says, they are not necessary. I am surprised that they don't do the projects at school. We have our students do their projects at school and the school pays for the supplies...it seems to work out well. I don't blame you for being a bit p.o'd. I think they do learn certain things from doing projects...but math and spelling should be top priority especially when they are 8 years old.

Chippendale's? Field Trip?
