Well, it's officially 2009!! :cool1:

We were able to rent Eagle Eye and it was good. Helped pass the time. Then we went and watched the fireworks from a near by street. Not as spectacular as last year though since they weren't set off from the rooftops this year. But still nice.

Sounds like everyone had a nice night, even the quiet, at home ones, with some yummy treats too!
I'm pooped and off to bed. Night all!

Happy New Years Day everyone! Looks like we are all sleeping in this morning!

Linda, and everyone else. Thanks for the compliments on my hair. I washed it again this morning, and it is already so much lighter. I'm liking it more and more, but I remember now why I prefer blonde. It hides the white/grays at my roots much better. Ah well, it's just a temporary color, so I should be back to my blondish self in about a month.

Brussell sprouts story! Dan and I swore before we got married that a neither a brussell sprout nor lima bean would ever enter our house. Ewwww! My neighbor heard that we didn't eat brussell sprouts and she told us that if we made them the way she does, we would be converts! Sure enough, we tried them her way and LOVED them. I could eat them every day if prepared this way.

You just cut them in half, put them in a ziplock bag with olive oil, lots of salt and pepper and then put them on a cookie sheet and bake them for about 30 minutes at 350 until the outsides look crispy. OMgoodness. So yummy and nutty.

Tracey, we took our house off the market right before Thanksgiving. We're currently coming up with Plan B (aka summer retreat to get the heck outta the heat). That may consist of just buying some property in WA and sitting on it until we can afford to build. Still hammering out the details.

Ok, I gotta force my dh to get in the shower because the kids are itching to go on our annual New Year's Hike! Hope we can get above the pollution out there (cough cough).

Hope everyone has a beautiful day!

Morning all. Happy New Years!!

As promised here are the pics from last night

Here is the cake with the mooshed head LOL

And here is Katy all excited about getting her oven

100_2863.jpg

100_2864.jpg

And of course blowing out the candle with EXTREMELY jealous little sis "helping" in the background LOL.

100_2870.jpg

We are taking Shelby to Disneyland for her birthday in April and she is over the moon excited. She still gets pretty jealous when it is someone elses birthday so she was pretty wired yesterday and she can't WAIT till it's her turn. She has to make it thru big sis's birthday in February too. ;)

Anyway it was a fun night last night and today is kick back and pig out and watch football.

Sounds like everyone had a good night last night. We are just watching the rose parade and then heading to mom's.

We actually went and saw it in person twice. The first year was the year it rained like crazy and so we did a do over the next year.

We are ALREADY are talking about another trip. We went with a friend who is in the marine corps and he got us in for free at his base which was WONDERFUL but it was at the VERY end of the route and the parade didn't get to us till almost 11 and a lot of the floats were collapsed because it was at the end so it wasn't quite as good because we didn't get to see them raised up and doing their effects and such.

So we are talking about going again in a few years and actually braving DL on New Year's and then going to the parade. It will DEF be a feat trying to do the fireworks at Midnight and then somehow getting to Pasadena then next morning because they require you to be at the grandstands at like 5 a.m. or some ungodly hour. But I have always wanted to see the fireworks at DL so we shall see.

Anyway have a GREAT day everyone and see yall later! :)

Yes, my one really bad finger (my right hand ring finger), bled a lot, all over the place. I washed with soap and water, dried, put on some antibiotic ointment on all the wounds, and then bandaged them up because they wouldn't stop bleeding/leaking/weeping. This morning I took the bandages off, washed with soap and water, dried, and then just left the wounds open to the air since the bleeding has stopped.

But I'm puzzled because the ring finger is soooooo swollen. It hurts to move it or even sqeeze it a bit. It even hurts my ring finger when I'm using my other fingers (if that makes sense). The wound doesn't look infected at all. It's not red. There's no puss or anything. I'm wondering if it's broken?

Or is it common for large amounts of swelling to occur with bites? :confused3 I don't know because I've never been biten before.

Ow!! Sadly in my line of work, I get bitten once in awhile. Dog bites don't get infected as readily as do cat bites. However, if your finger is swollen, pink/red, pulsing and/or hot to the touch, it is infected. Bites tend to innoculate deeper tissues with bacteria, so often the puncture itself looks fine, but the deeper tissues are brewing some nastiness.

Dog bites are also called "iceberg injuries" because the tiny injury to the skin is the "tip of the iceberg", all the tissues below suffur crushing injuries...so lots of bruising and the like.

In San Diego if you got to a medical professional with a dog bite, by law it has to be reported to animal control, who then contacts the owner of the dog...you..for rabies quarantine and the like. (Silly governmental hogwash).
Depending upon the breed of the dog, and the stick-up-the-buttness of your particular contact, the biter can become labeled with the official title of "dangerous dog" and any further incidents will result in fines/insurance issues etc.

Happy Happy Joy Joy!!!

Aren't I cheery? Most of my infected bites respond well to warm water soaks with epson salts...which sounds like you are doing....but if things aren't getting better, get antibiotics, I have had coworkers hospitalized due to dog/cat bites and the need for IV antibiotics.

Good Luck!!!

Happy New Year!party:

Heck, I went to bed at 10:00 pm last night.....I was so tired. But, as usual I couldn't sleep, so I was still awake at midnight. DH and the kids came in to give me "happy new year" hugs and kisses.:goodvibes

That turtle cake is so cute, even with the smooshed head! You're daughter is such a pretty young lady. She looks excited about her new Easy Bake Oven. Boy those ovens have been around for a LONG time. I even had one when I was a little girl (think 1975) and all I remember thinking was "You mean a light bulb is going to cook this little cake?!?!"

Do those ovens still work that way, or have they changed over the years?

We're not doing anything today. Are we lame or what?!?! My brother is really sick, so he and his family isn't coming over (which is what we planned). My friend Cathy and her kids are down in California having some fun in the sun, so we can't hang with them either. They were at Disneyland on December 30th and 31st, and had a great time despite the insane crowds. She said that yesterday early afternoon, the line for Pirates said 90 minutes.

DL reached capacity sometime yesterday afternoon, but they were still selling tickets and letting people into DCA at 5:00pm. That's about the time that they left (they'd had enough of the wall to wall crowds by then) and started to head down to San Diego to see her parents.

Anyway, my parents are at their winter condo in Lake Havasu City, AZ, so we can't do anything with them either.

So I'm not sure what we'll do today. I suppose DH will probably watch football. I guess I'll do some laundry. Yay.:headache:

AMYSUE!!

Well last night during my New Years celebration (had a couple glasses of wine over the course of the evening), I soaked my hand in Epson salts for 30 minutes.....and can I say that hurt like hel-l-l-l. Then after that, my DH made an icepack for me, and I put that on it for about 30 minutes. Then when I went to bed last night I took a couple of Ibuprofen to help get the inflammation down and help with the pain.

And actually this morning it's better. It's still quite swollen but the swelling has gone down a bit, and it's moving a lot better without all the pain. I'm actually able to type more normally rather than doing the "hunt and peck" typing I've been doing the last few days. Gee, I might be able to shave my legs today.:goodvibes

I think I may do a repeat of the Epson salts, icepack, and Ibuprofen today. It works!!!!:yay:

Good afternoon ladies! My this day is flying by. I woke up around 8 when Ruben left for work and was toying with the idea of going back to sleep. Instead I got up, made a big breakfast, did more laundry, washed dishes, cleaned the bathrooms, and picked up the kid's rooms. Now I'm really tired. LOL

I wonder how many people down on the Strip are just now waking up and looking like this:
happy-new-year.jpg

:lmao:

We're currently coming up with Plan B (aka summer retreat to get the heck outta the heat).
OMG, I'd so love a summer retreat! I am dreading the thought of another LONG, HOT, BORING summer here in Vegas. :sad2:

We are just watching the rose parade and then heading to mom's.
We actually went and saw it in person twice. The first year was the year it rained like crazy and so we did a do over the next year.
First off, I love the b-day pics! Looks like a fun time!
Second, would you believe I have never been to the Rose Parade in person and I lived in the L.A. area for over 25 years. People come from all over to see that thing and I never went. I wish I had when I was younger. Now the thought doesn't appeal to me as much. I'd rather be watching it from my nice, comfortable, climate controlled house. :rotfl:

She said that yesterday early afternoon, the line for Pirates said 90 minutes.

So I'm not sure what we'll do today. I suppose DH will probably watch football. I guess I'll do some laundry. Yay.:headache:
OMG, that is unreal to me!!!! I cannot imagine waiting 90 minutes for POTC! :scared: You'd have to pay me to do that and even then I'm not sure I would. Yikes.

Hey, I did laundry too! LOL What exciting lives we lead. ;) Now I'm back in bed being lazy online with the Twilight Zone marathon on.

AMYSUE!!

Nice to see you around AmySue.

We are just eating breakfast right now. It was a late night over here and we are pooped. Not sure what the day has in store. Might just shower and put on clean jammies and spend the day vegging, or we may head out of the house and do something. Haven't decided yet.

Hope everyone had a safe and happy holiday. Now we all can really start getting ready for our trip.

We can start making dining reservations in a few days!!!!!! :yay: :cool1:

I'll be making the reservations for Blue Bayou, Wine Country Trattoria, and I'll book one table for 6 at Carnation Cafe.

Mary Jo, 21Yankees, jordansmomma are you all still able to make reservations for Carnation Cafe? I need you each to call and book a table for 6. The times are on the front page on the schedule.

Stacie, you'll be booking the Storyteller's character breakfast, right? An early time?

And then we should be all set for meals! :thumbsup2 The remaining meals will be counter service meet ups.

Happy New Years everyone. Heather (Lilycat) is coming over tomorrow to work on our plans for the trip! I can't believe it is so close!

My goal for 2009 - to get visited by the tag fairy. I am a vet here and have been on for over 2 years and still do not have a tag!

Sarah

I've offered in private and on this thread to pay for the walk in walt's footsteps tour... maybe Linda is waiting til a little closer to take payments?:goodvibes Since she's the one in charge of the tour, i'm going to wait for her to message the amount to send and mailing address. So i don't seem like a pest.:upsidedow

Sarah.. that sounds like alot of fun..it's nice she lives so close to you.. i hope you all have a great time.

Happy New Year Everyone.. Be blessed.:grouphug:

I think that's a good goal. Tagless for two years is too long! LOL :rotfl: Hopefully in 2009 you'll be tagless no more. :thumbsup2

Well, I'll leave it up to her. I'd imagine since it cannot be refunded she'd like all payments up front, but I'm sure she'll let everyone know when she's ready. :)

That seems like a good idea...Linda could do a mass pm to all who are on the list to go with the info we need to pay her...that way she doesn't have to repeat it multiple times if we all pm'd her to ask! Hope that is cool with Linda! She seems like a cool person! I must have had too much to drink last night....her I am typing about Linda as if she couldn't read this for herself! Sorry Linda....I am having issues!

Sarah

Yeah Yeah, i understand Sarah:goodvibes

Miss Linda probably has a plan in mind.. so when she says ... ShOw Me Da MoNeY!... i'll JuMp to it.:rotfl:

Thanks for keeping track of everything, Beth:flower3:

 I'm supposed to be keeping track??? :rolleyes1

:rotfl: Kidding. It's no biggie, and I certainly am not without a group of wonderful ladies all eager to help out. :goodvibes

Happy New Year Ladies!

I spent most of the night online in a chat room with 20 or so of my internet friends. Passing around virtual food and drinks. I started around 9:45 est and ended at 1am est. Not bad, but I made it to 3am est last year and we only had 6 or 7 of us. lol

I'm spending time playing with my new Wii games. My arm is sore from lawn darts and horse shoes. If I was a better player I'd get done each game a lot faster. rofl

Have a great nite girls!
