Thanks Bigskynurse and Molly for all the helpful advice for my fingers.

Yes, my one really bad finger (my right hand ring finger), bled a lot, all over the place. I washed with soap and water, dried, put on some antibiotic ointment on all the wounds, and then bandaged them up because they wouldn't stop bleeding/leaking/weeping. This morning I took the bandages off, washed with soap and water, dried, and then just left the wounds open to the air since the bleeding has stopped.

But I'm puzzled because the ring finger is soooooo swollen. It hurts to move it or even sqeeze it a bit. It even hurts my ring finger when I'm using my other fingers (if that makes sense). The wound doesn't look infected at all. It's not red. There's no puss or anything. I'm wondering if it's broken?

Or is it common for large amounts of swelling to occur with bites? :confused3 I don't know because I've never been biten before.

Thanks Molly and trodrigue for the info on the annual passes. Bummer about the Costco deal. I wonder if my local Costco would have any?

Good afternoon all! Thanks again all who wished Katy a happy birthday. I am back from work and we went to the store and got Katy a turtle cake for tonight. It is really cute and I will have to post pics tomorrow. :)

Today was a bit stressful. Shane's job is REALLY messing with him and it is making me mad but I won't get into it. First they said he was off Friday, then they said he had to work so we had to cancel going to truckee and now he is off AGAIN. That and a bunch of other crapola that I won't go into.

But anyway we are about to go to moms for the big party. Katy is beyond excited. Not sure WHAT is going to happen tomorrow or the next day but probably not going to get to go to the snow now cuz now MOM made an apt. So who knows.

Anyway that's bout it.

Have a GREAT New Years!

Without seeing your finger, my best guess would be it's swollen simply because of the trauma to the tissue of your finger. It's similar to my post surgical patients. Half of their pain is from the swelling of the tissue around their new joints. What we do for them is give them Toradol. What you can do if you believe in drugs is take ibuprofen to ease the swelling. Tylenol will do nothing for swelling. Also, you can apply ice for short periods of time to help slow down the inflammatory process.

I hope you feel better soon!

Capri--I hope your hand gets better soon. My local Costco had the deal for a deluxe pass where you pay $269 and get a $50 gift card back--but I don't know if that's only for soCal residents.

Are you an ortho surgical nurse? If so, I LOVE you guys! I had double knee replacement surgery a few years ago and the nurses on the ortho floor were the BEST. (and even if you're not an ortho nurse, love ya anyway!) They weren't used to dealing with someone as young as me; as you know, often when you have major surgery the trauma can trigger a visit from Aunt Flo--happened to me--they were befuddled--they finally got supplies from the maternity ward. And then my Mom brought my stuff from home. LOL

Well, everything I can do to prepare for the party is done, my feet are aching, and I'm dis-ing for a few minutes until I need to go change and put on makeup. If I don't get to talk to you all before midnight, I hope everyone has a Happy New Year's Eve and that 2009 brings us all much peace, happiness, security, and lots of trips to Disney!

We have no plans for tonight. I just sent my dh to the store to get stuff to make chili cheese tater tots, pizza, and monkey bread. I'm going to gain about 20 pounds tonight and I don't care! (that's PMS hormones tawkin!) Happy New Fat Year to me!

We don't have plans either. We're having tacos and nachos tonight (I can't blame it on PMS hormones. I'm just weak, hahaha!), and staying home to watch movies or something. We did get the kids some party poppers to have fun with later on this evening. I'm going to have a glass of wine (or two :goodvibes ) and soak my hand in some Epson Salts. And I do have some Ibuprofen - thanks for the tip LittleBlackRaincloud!

Happy New Year Callie!

Happy New Year to all my DisBoard Ladies!!! (Everyone stay safe tonight!)

Good luck with your party! Wish I could crash it. Your menu sounds delicious!

I have worked on many different units as a travel nurse. Right now, I work on the ortho/bariatric unit. I really enjoy it. My true love is Newborn intensive care though. When we move back east, I'll be back with my babies again. :goodvibes I'm glad you had such a great experience with your nurses. Ortho surgery is not fun, it's painful and lots of work. I hope you're doing well now!

You're welcome! I hope it helps. I bet the swelling is down some by morning.

No plans for tonight. I have to work tomorrow. I have a new grad with me who actually does patient care. My job is to keep her safe. It's mentally exhausting, but fun. Talk with you all later. Have a wonderful New Year's Eve.

I'm typing really slow today because I was bit by my dog yesterday and a couple of my fingers on my right hand are all swollen.
Beth - yep, DH would go on the ladies trip if he wasn't the only guy there. He LOVES DLR almost as much as me. But then if other guys went.....well, it wouldn't be a ladies trip, now would it?.;)
Ouch! I'm sorry about your hand!
And you're right, it wouldn't be a ladies trip then. ;)

Yep, thanks for the smokin smiley, Beth. :lmao:
It seemed appropriate. :thumbsup2
Wow, sounds like Main Street is going to be a mess for awhile!

If you don't want to make it yourself, Zazzle does have the exact Tink picture :thumbsup2
That's what I plan to use. I'm just waiting to hear from everydaymathchick on which font she used on hers so we can match it.

Well, now I'm up to 10 people--my other friends and their two-year old twins :scared1: You can bet the cats will be under the bed for most of their visit.
 You are a better woman then I. Good luck and have fun!

Sorry for the lecture...can't help it, I'm an ER nurse after all!! Hope it gets better,
This is so nice. We have an ER Nurse, a lawyer, a teacher, etc. It's like free advice!
Too bad I have nothing to add. Well, nothing I can share here on the DIS anyway! :rolleyes1

I found a Dr Mendelsohn article that states there's a growing concern of a link between dtap and leukemia, and my mom got leukemia about a year after the spider bite and shot, and died due to a medical mess-up and missed diagnosis after going into remission...augggggghhhhh
OMG, how sad.

Today was a bit stressful. Shane's job is REALLY messing with him and it is making me mad but I won't get into it.
Sorry for the work hassles.

We don't have plans either. We're having tacos and nachos tonight (I can't blame it on PMS hormones. I'm just weak, hahaha!), and staying home to watch movies or something.
I'm so full. We went to a buffet earlier today and then got a box of See's candy.....which is almost gone. :rolleyes1 We wanted to rent Eagle Eye but it's out everywhere so I have no clue how we are going to pass the time tonight. :confused3
I think that's why I've always hated New Year's Eve. I always felt like everyone I knew was out having fun while I sat home.

No plans for tonight. I have to work tomorrow.
We have no plans either.
My family is scattered right now.
Noelle is drawing and watching tv in her room.
The twins are watching a movie downstairs.
Adam and Ruben are playing video games in his room.
And I'm on the computer, and getting ready to read Eclipse.

I think later on we are going to hop in the car and drive to where we can see the fireworks but in the meantime I have about 6 hours to kill. Maybe I'll take a nap......;)

Maybe Eagle Eye is available on Pay-per-view? Do you have Pay-per-view where you are? We watched it a few day ago and it's a pretty good movie.

We'll probably order something on Pay-per-view tonight. Not sure what though. Right now our kids are watching the "Spongebob Squarepants Movie".:goodvibes

You should like New Years Eve more this year.....now that you know that Callie and I are also sitting at home tonight (stuffing our faces).;)

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE !!!

Capri - welcome back, we have missed you so.:grouphug:
We used to always party, party, party on NYE, but now we just stay home. We just finished a special meal, though. I steamed King Crab Legs, roasted little red potatoes and tomatoes. DH opened our bottle of Moet Chandon White Star and OMG, what a fabulous (with a capitol F) meal !!!

I freshened up my champagne and am already buzzed. I'll never make it unitl mignight at this rate. HA!

Happy New Year!

Well my New Year's Eve consist of writing to you, and eventually going to bed.:dance3: Dave is asleep already. He got up at 3:00 this morning, went to work, and didn't get home till about 7:00 tonight. He is exausted. He is trying to get as much done, so he can get away on Friday to take my Mom down south for my Stepdad's funeral on Saturday.

I made the Cheeseburger Meatloaf that Dawn(fairykin) made, and it was delicious. Why wouldn't it be? It's from Paula Deen ya all.... Good comfort food! But not good for the heart..........so it will be made on rare occasions.

Everyone have a good evening and be safe!!!

Hello Everyone and Happy New Year. I am joining the ranks of staying home and stuffing myself. Hubby was at Costco yesterday and called me to tell me how good the lobster looked, so I quickly agreed that yes he should buy a one pound lobster for us. We cooked that with steak, that for once was perfectly done, a small baked potato, and brussel sprouts for me(hubby would not touch those with a 10 foot pole). It was delicous!

So we are just hangin out watching Ice age on Demand. (I love on Demand!) Dear old Aunt Flo is here to visit again. Last time was not that darn long ago, as Cheryl might remember??? What's up with that?

Gosh Capri. Sure hope your hand feels better soon!

Callie, any luck selling your house yet?? Add a Realtor to the list, but please don't blame me for the market. That is the fault of the mortgage brokers. Any of those amongst us??:scared:

Heather, have you got your shirt done yet?

Hi Tracey,
I would love to share some brussel sprouts with you. Cabbage is my favorite food in any way, shape or form. I am strange, I know.;) Glad you enjoyed your lobster. Our crab was sure delicious.

Doesn't Callie look sexy with that dark hair? She's very pretty IRL. I tried dark hair once. Didn't work for me. You would think with the pale skin and green eyes it would, but alas, I always look better as a blond. Or at least semi-blond. And speaking of Aunt Flo, she is visiting me the day DD & I leave for WDW (Jan 15th). I am so upset, but don't know what to do to stop or delay it. Anyone know?

I am sure Cheryl is having a marvelous time and looks dashing. She is such a nice lady and glad to call her my friend.:goodvibes

I am the HR manager (and also do Payroll) at a commercial cookware manufacturing plant. Not a admirable career as many here, but I do like my line of work. Except letting people go; which with all the lay offs lately has been trying for me. Eats my stomach up the night before I know we have to do it. I sure hope 2009 brings a better economy. Here, Here to Obama (where's the wine toasting smiley?). I really hope he boosts us all up emotionally as well as financially...even though I voted for McCain. But I have high hopes for our new President.

Wow, all this champagne has made me a chatty-cathy ;)

Evening all. I am back from mom's. Katy had a GREAT time. We had a nice meal at mom's. We had ham, scalloped potatoes, salad and green beans. It was yummy. The turtle cake was a hit although dad closed the lid to the cake box and his head fell off LOL but otherwise it was good. I took a pic so when you see it (tomorrow when I download pics) that is why his face looks mashed up. I tried to fix it but it was all smooshed LOL.

Katy LOVED getting her easy bake oven. It was a BIG hit! :) She had a good time and mom got her a fun Dr. Seus game and her, Shelby, mom and I played a round after dinner. She also got her the Christmas Story version of Monopoly. I think she was really happy with all her gifts and with her party.

We just hung out and watched some tv and everyone crashed after dinner and cake. We got to watch the ball drop at midnight New York time so that was good.

I have to tell a funny story though. We were at the store earlier in the day buying our prime rib for tomorrow and mom wasn't happy with any of the roasts that were in the coolers and this lady mentioned that you could go to the butcher and ask to have one cut. So we go back and ask and then they said we could come back and pick it up. So we went and did the rest of our shopping and she says for me to go pick it up and she would get in line. So I go back there and this guy is getting some seafood. Well he gets a crab and then wants some salmon. Well he is taking FORVER and I wait and wait and then when he is done the lady says ok now I will get your lobster. I am like Oh for God sake. So I see this small roast sitting on the counter in the back and I interrupt and say could I please just get that roast because my mom is already in line and I point to the one on the back counter and then she says THAT isn't your roast THAT is and she hands me this side of beef. I kid you not this thing weighed 20 lbs and the price on it was 90 bucks. I was like OK!

So I go up front and my mom is like WHAT!!!! She is like that isn't what I wanted. So I was like I THOUGHT that seemed extreme. So she leaves me in the middle of checking out with her credit card which of course I can't PAY with HER card and goes back to "fix" it. I am like WHAAAAAA

So the guy luckily is able to do the card using her pin or some crap and I am able to check out and then go stand up front and she gets it fixed but it was just nuts.

Then she comes up and has to BUY the stupid new roast. Needless to say it was comical to say the least.

But we got it all worked out. But I had to laugh thinking about that GIANT rib roast. I mean that thing was HUGE!

Anyway that is my laugh for the day.

I am about to hit the hey. Don't think I am going to make it till midnight.

Once again Happy Happy New Year one and all and I will probably stop in tomorrow before I head to mom's.

Take care everyone and see you tomorrow.

HAPPY NEW YEAR... It's not 12 here yet about 3 hours and 15 mins to go. I too feel like I should be partying like the rest, but it's Dick Clarks for me as hubby works till 10 so here I am. Stay safe all, and I wish you a joyfull and magical Disney New Year.

Happy New Year everyone!

We have had a quiet night around here... We had a cheddar ale fondue for dinner with lots of yummy dippers and I made crepes with vanilla custard and chocolate sauce for dessert.

At 9 we talked to both sets of parents back East and then put Ty to bed. For the very first time in his life he is sleeping in the crib in his room rather than in the pack'n'play in our bedroom. This is a process that has been a year in the making as we literally said that it was time for him to move into his own room last New Year's Eve and here we are 365 days later and it's finally happening. I can't quite explain it, but I love having him close to me at night--but he has a tendency to end up in bed with us and it's getting a little crowded in the bedroom if you know what I mean!;)

Anyhow, after we put him to bed we watched When Harry Met Sally. It's an old and sentimental favorite as it played a pivotal role in Dave and I moving from just being friends to becoming a couple, and with it's climax set on New Year's Eve it just seemed appropriate. But, it ended about 15 minutes ago and now I'm just killing time until midnight, as it seems like I should stay up even though I'm not sure what I am staying up for!

Happy 2009 to you too Linda--and to everyone else. It's funny--I dislike cabbage, but I LOVE  brussell sprouts. Go figure. (They were part of my roasted veggie melange tonight.) And I'm really glad we're friends too--we'll have to schedule lunch somewhere sometime--I wouldn't even mind coming down to your neck of the woods.

Dinner was very fun (although no one else likes champagne, so I didn't open a bottle, although I have several (rats). We did, however, drink three bottles of wine and started the evening with my experimental Dole Whip Margaritas. I need to work on it--when I first made it in my Margaritaville mixer/blended it was really frothy--almost like the foam on a beer--and then it slowly became more liquidy. But it was really really good (although, ahem, I might have made them a little strong--but no one complained). The last people just left and I came in to shut down the computer and thought I would say good night to all my Dis Ladies friends. Sounds like everyone had a nice evening one way or another--some yummy things out there.

Talk to you all tomorrow. Don't forget the Rose Parade!
