My middle daughter has a jehovah's witness boy in her class for the 3rd year and because he does not celebrate ANY holidays the other kids are not even allowed to make mother's or father's day gifts even because HE doesn't believe in it. I mean COME ON! It is just over the top to me. 20 other kids can't do something because ONE kid doesn't believe in something. I mean this is just ridiculous to me.

I have always said if you don't choose to believe in something or celebrate something that is fine but I don't see why everyone else has to suffer because of ONE person's beliefs. I don't know I just don't get it. And you are right it is NOT just you guys. I know there are some other schools here that DO celebrate stuff it just seems like our school is over the top. But boy they are sure right there with their hands out. It seems like every other day they are sending some fund raiser home. THey have no aversion to THAT!

I think my beliefs are against FUND RAISING! :snooty:

I totally agree with you. The school area where my children attend is very diverse with many different cultures and beliefs and it's not fair to punish the kids from any fun activities because of ones beliefs. I think that is why my DD's school names the parties something different than the actual holiday. Personally, my beliefs don't really celebrate a lot of holidays but I don't make a big deal about it and I know kids need a little bit of fun while at school.

I hope at least your kids have a good time Trick or Treating tomorrow night

. I'm on candy duty since my fat butt is too lazy to walk around all night .

You are pregnant! Not fat. Silly. Trust me, there is a big difference. LOL

My butt is fat, and it WILL be walking all over the neighborhood in an effort to change that. :rotfl:
OK, and to scope out the candy the kids are getting......:rolleyes1

I know, but I've gone a little over board with this pregnancy popcorn:: . Eventhough I'm not going with the kids, I'll still be scopping out the candy when they return

. I actually probably should go walking for the exercise, but I'm still tired from walking over 11 hours at Disneyland on Monday :scared: .

And what are you talking about!! I think you are looking great :cutie:.

Oh, and I'll finally be posting those pictures from Disneyland tomorrow. Gotta run for the night. DS has football tonight .

Thanks guys. Yeah I felt so bad for both girls that they had to miss school this week eventhough they probably actually didn't really miss anything LOL. I think Shelby's class (the little one) MAY have done something because as I said her teacher tends to ignore the rules a bit but poor Katy with the Jehovah boy and the strict teacher that abides by the rules doesn't get much of anything. If they are REALLY good they get the class beanie baby on their desk for the week. PUHLEEZE!

She was SO upset when she found out this little boy was in her class for the third year in a row. I agree too because they have SO much homework compared to what we used to have and expect SO much out of them. They increased the words per minute that they expect them to read this year and both girls (in 2nd and 3rd grade) have at LEAST an hour or 2 of homework every night so they NEED a little fun once in awhile. And it doesn't even have to be a party or junk food but just some fun in general and it seems like the schools have just taken ALL the fun out of it completely!

I don't know it is really sad. I remember getting SO excited as a kid to be able to wear my costume to school and all. Luckily both girls pink eye is MUCH better so they will at least be able to trick or treat but now it's going to rain. :(

But we will prevail! We will find a way! :)

Have fun everyone! Whatever you guys end up doing and don't eat to much candy! ;)

11 hours is enough. Find a comfy spot and put your feet up. :thumbsup2

Thanks for the comment. :) I need to stay away from those bite me sized candies though! They are dangerous. lol

Have fun at the game tonight. Always on the go! You and Kelly both. :worship:

That IS good news!! I hope it doesn't rain, at least hard, but if it does throw on a poncho and go out anyway. With so few ToTers out, they will get more candy since people will be wanting to get rid of it. :thumbsup2

Ok you guys are killing me with all the Vegas talk. I would LOVE to go as I said I have only been that once and of course I did my famous fall and ended up in the ER for half my trip. I have YET to go back since 97 and then I had to cancel my trip in 04 because of dh getting deployed so I REALLY want to go but I just can't make it this year as much as I would LOVE to cuz it is just TOO much with all these other trips plus swim team in summer.

So I will just have to be jealous of you all and live vicariously through your trip!!

I tell you with both my girls out all week they have been driving me UP the wall. My little one goes back to school tomorrow thank GOD!! And I have to keep my middle one out one more day but hopefully by Monday they will ALL finally be back to school. And then my oldest has to work tomorrow night so RIGHT in the middle of trick or treating dh will have to go pick her up from work. BLEH! But so be it.

You guys are lucky that they let your kids still dress up. That is a NO go here in CA!! They won't let you do ANYTHING related to halloween at all and don't even get me started on that. NO dressing up no halloween parties. GRRRR. In fact my kids aren't allowed ANY holiday parties and they can't even bring cupcakes to school for birthdays anymore. This state I tell ya. If Disneyland wasn't here I would move! Sheesh.

Anywho I am off to deal with the muchkins for another day! Wish me luck! I need it! ;)
Hey we live in California, and my kids dress up. As a matter of fact, my DD who is in HS won the costume contest which i made. My other DD is a 3rd grade teacher, and I just helped in her class. All the kids were dressed up, had an all school costume pararde and a class party. But they are strict on the costumes. No blood, gore or fake weapons of any kind. A teacher even goes though the classroom to check the kids out. They also get to have other Holiday parties too throughout the year.

It must depend on the school district. My niece teaches in the Sacramento area, and she doesn't get to do anything either. She hates that. Kids can't be kids any more!! :sad2:

Awww, I'm sorry. You'll have to do something for sure. Staying home would be too depressing. A party maybe? Or just dinner out? :confused3

I hate how they take all the fun out of......well, EVERYTHING for kids these days. When did we as a society become so offended by every little thing? That's why they make all those changes, because someone somewhere complained. Some people are such sticks in the mud!

Speaking of Halloween, I am kind of dreading going to the kids parties today. Yesterday walking home from school, there was a mom and two boys in front of us. One of the boys is in Lindsey's class.
They got to their car and were getting in, when the boy turned to Lindsey and made a really mean face. You know how kids do. Anyway, she being a kid too, made one back.

So of course, the mom turns just in time to see Lindsey making the face. We all kept walking. It was me and the 3 girls. Then I hear the mom say in a really loud, nasty voice, "Excuse me, that was really rude!"

Now at first I thought surely she must be talking to her kid. Because no one better dare talk to my kid in such a tone. Especially when her kid started it. So I kept walking. Nothing more was said from the mom.
But after a few steps, I thought about it and wondered if that had been meant for Lindsey.

Noelle and Hannah had been walking behind me and Lindsey, and they had a better view of the mom, so I asked Noelle if the mom had been talking to her kid when she said that, or if she'd directed that comment to Lindsey. She said it looked like she was talking to Lindsey.

WTH??? So now, I'm kind of ticked off. I talked to Lindsey about it and I explained to her how that behavior was immature and unappropriate, EVEN IF the other kid did it first. But now I have to go to this party where the mom will probably be with her kid, and have her thinking my daughter started it and is just some little brat, and I'm just one of those parents who doesn't do crap about it. Yay, won't THAT be fun.

Sorry. I just had to rant about that! :rotfl:
Beth, I would be ranting too!! I would have been furious too! :furious: Why is it that some Moms just can't handle that their kids ARE NOT PERFECT? The need to get a reality check!!!

So my trip got a kink in it after booking March 2- 8th. I got a call from Jennifer at Hojo's :( Seems there is no entertainment rate for the Wednesday and the group rate does not start until Thursday. So I have to pay full rack rate on Wednesday. Jennifer felt bad she had to call me and left a message to call her. So then it cost me long distant charges to find out the price is full rack rate. Of course when you raise the rate you also raise the taxes. But I was really nice to Jennifer because she was just the messenger. Guess she wondered why I was not complaining loudly rofl. But this is a group event I am choosing to come for a few extra days. And I will not ruin this great deal we could have for years :)

I joked I think I am the only Canadian going in this group any other hidden special rates because our dollar in taking a nose dive :)

So I am stuck. Not like I can easily pick up and move out for one day. I wonder why Wednesdays are so expensive. I would love to stay the full time but I have to be fair to my son who is helping me on this trip with the luggage and dealing with my scooter. Yes it would be cheaper to go Thursday to Monday. But it is his first trip so I need to spend some days with him.

On the up side out dollar gained 5 cents :) Now if it could just get a little higher the rate change will not be so bad :)
Did you mention your DIS board member discount for 15% off?? See if that would work.

I just got my 13YO DD's costume done, from the thrift store. She's going to be Juno! Not sure about THAT!! But she does look cute. I'll have to take a picture tomorrow and post it.

Sad thing is people might not expect it to be a costume the way kids are turning out. Of course not your daughter but in general.

Welcome back! I wondered where you'd run off to. LOL How was the trip? I hope you had fun! It's been warm here lately. Much warmer then it should be this time of year.

The trip was fantastic! My mom just moved from Virginia to LV, so I am so happy that she will only be 4 hours away from me!

You guys are not going to believe this.

My Mom is currently at the emergency room at Hoag Hospital in Newport Beach.

As I indicated a couple of days ago, she has developed lymphodema as a result of her surgery this past summer. This afternoon her arm started getting a red mark, and by evening it was moving down her arm. She would not let me go and take her to the doctor--so her caregiver came and took her to the hospital. She is insisting that I go ahead and go tomorrow morning to Florida--which I don't want to do--but she's insistent that once she gets checked out she will get on a later flight and come on out.

I can't believe this is happening. Just five hours ago I was finishing up work and making final plans to go tomorrow.

So, I guess I am going--if I am able I will update you while I am gone.

Oh no, Cheryl! I'm feel so bad for you and your mom. I know how much planning went into this trip. I really hope she is feeling well enough to be able to meet you in FL and you have a wonderful time together.
