In the morning i'll cook yummy food to take over there.

Maybe you should have been on the "Don't be Cheeekin" team. :lmao:

Thanks to all who have responded with thoughts about speech delays and ear infections. I tried talking to one of Ty's two main classroom teachers today as I picked him up to see what her thoughts were regarding his speech compared to his peers (he is in a class of all 1 year olds). She felt like he us vert social and a classroom leader, but agreed that he mostly babbles and mumbles words alot and that there isn't much intelligible speech yet. But, she didn't seem too concerned.

However, she is 20 and while I love her (and so does Ty) she doesn't have either a child development degree or a medical degree. So, I am arming myself for the conversation with our ped about speech and about his continual ear infections.

Oh, and Molly, I NEVER would have thought about it being a chiro issue that is causing his ears to get infected so often--I will definitely be looking into that!

When I went through this with Kaeleb it was actually (oh good lord I know someone is going to flame me for this..but just remember I am Native American and I am entitled to certain things...) I was at a WIC appt when he was 2. He refused to talk. He would say mom, dad & hi. But only his dad & I could understand him. So it was the dietician who set up the appts and stuff.
Without her doing something I am not sure his doctor kept saying he would talk on his time or some crap like that. So he was able to go to pre-school where there was a speech pathologist for 2 years and then last year in 2nd grade was his last year in it. He see's her once a month just to make sure that things are going ok.
So PUSH for whatever you need to have done for him.
I never really thought about and just thought that he would talk, like the dr said he would.

So I hope it all works out for you!

Oh yeah I am in on that!! See my above post! May need a food stop in between though! ;)

I'm a chubby girl...I can always eat....ok not really but it sounded really funny!!
But I am sure that I will be hungry. I am leaving my house at 4 A.M so I don't have to leave my car at the airport. So I would do a food stop somewhere in the park.

Beth ~ Chica you are killing me with the food porn!! I think I just gained 5 or 10 pounds just looking!!

Okay, I'm all caught up.

Capri all I can say is  . I remember the little girls when I was at that age and they are just plain nasty. I hope that the teacher talks to the class as whole (this way the girl isn't singled out) about empathy. If that doesn't occur, or doesn't work, then I would talk to her parents. I mean after all most parents (myself included) tend to look at their kids with rose colored glasses...in other words they may not be aware of their behavior when their kids are away from them, KWIM?

Cherly thanks for the e-mail, now I just need a name to submit. Also I agree about looking else where for tiarras, something just doesn't seem right. Thanks so much for the Valentine's Day Card and lollipop.

Beth I love the food porn!

I'm getting in just before 4pm on Thursday....unless I can convince Josh to get me to the train station early that morning instead.... I just may talk to him about that....I still need to buy my ticket, if I can get their early enough I'm going to get the 4 day PH instead of the 3 day.

Tina, thanks for the card. That was very nice of you.

I'm just happy it's Friday tomorrow. :woohoo: I took off all of next week due to way too many appointments for my kids and Josh. Then I go back for 3 days and then I'm headed to DL. Plus the week that we get back from DL, Josh has been selected for jury duty. The fun just doesn't stop....

Just think 2 weeks from right now we'll be eating pizza and munching on lots of candy. :woohoo:

Who on earth would flame you for using WIC? It's there to be used. Before people are judgmental, they need to think about how their life could be (especially in this economy) without enough money to take care of basic needs. I'm glad the nurse at the office was able to help you.

I find it interesting that all of us have doctors that blew us off. I'm not sure what to make of it. I know the AAP is worried about parents losing trust in their docs. Stories like this make me think well no wonder! I think most docs mean well, I just think developmental delays are really glossed over in medical school.

I hope everyone is having a great night!

i'm really looking forward to just relaxing at the pizza party and visiting.. alright.. i'm very thrilled with the candy buffet..:rotfl: there you have it.. i've always wanted to live in a willy wonka movie.

Hey Hey Heyyyyyyyyyyy.. no OOooOOmmPa LooMpaH comments.:clown:

They don't do anything for mainstreaming per-se. He's in the resource room about 3 hours a day receiving extra help in math, reading, writing, speech/language, ect. The rest of the time he's in a regular 3rd grade class, mainly for P.E., music, science, art, lunch, and recess. He doesn't have any kind of buddy or helper.

I'd imagine you've got to be pretty close to them re-upping his IEP. Put those social requirements into the IEP next time. That (a) he's in a room with x, y or z friends AND that they work on a buddy system for him. They did this for Ethan one year, and it worked out great. Ethan's psychiatrist (that he had earlier back in MN) gave me great great advice when I wanted to get some modifications into his IEP and how his school day ran. First, bring food, donuts, bagels, whatever. Puts everyone in a more "sociable" mood. Then, know what you want, somehow reword it into a definable problem, then approach them with "what are WE going to do to fix it?" Making it a group dynamic while also sending the message that you do expect it to be fixed. Too often, when you think there's a problem, they can move into defensive mode. And, something I learned, the teachers typically have little to no interaction with the people in the lunch room and the lunch room attendents have little or no training. Often, they are volunteers. When we did Ethan's first IEP, his teacher was shocked to find out that Ethan sat completely by himself alone (and often rocked himself back and forth or curled into a little ball in the corner) because he wasn't like that in the classroom at all--in the more formal, structured classroom, he worked with the other kids just fine. The lunch room people never said anything to anyone because they assumed everyone was quite aware of how he was, not guessing at all that he wasn't doing that in class. (Oh, yeah, his initial observations and IEP testing left me crying for a week!) After the evaluation, we had Ethan eat lunch in a classroom, and he was allowed to have one friend each day. It became a pretty coveted thing to do, and after awhile, Ethan became much more comfortable in the lunchroom and the other kids much more accepting of him. And, like your son, Ethan was in quite a bubble for much of the time, but quickly got to a point where he wasn't in the bubble anymore, but couldn't understand why people responded to him the way they did.

Hugs for Michelle.. You are really a great mother:goodvibes What good advice you shared.

Sweet Dreams Everyone..i'm going to sleep

Based on a couple of questions--yes, you can submit more than one possible name! The most important thing is that we come up with the "best" name for our girl!

I love some of the ones already submitted . . . . this is not going to be an easy decision!

No fair! I never got the email about it!!!! What's up with that!

Sarah

I finished my shirt, and it turned out fine. I bought a $10 vee-neck from Old Navy. It's very thin, so I'll wear a cami or tank under it. I seem to remember somebody saying something about bringing some sparkly fabric paint to bling up Tink. If this is still happening, can I get in on it? Please?

Tina - I will bring some sparkle paint and a brush for you!!!

No fair! I never got the email about it!!!! What's up with that!

Sarah

To get the e-mail, you were supposed to PM Cheryl that you were interested and give her your e-mail. You must have missed that when you were sick....

For some reason, I got unsubscribed to this thread....so I'm trying again.
