My daughter turns 6 the day before our cruise (11/26 Eastern, hers and my mothers bday presents... ya right, it is really my present :goodvibes ).

She loves to get dressed up, but many costumes end up giving her a major case of the itchies. Her skin is very sensitive to things like lotions and fabrics. I am looking for ideas for nice finished formal dresses, without tayloring. She loves big full skirts with the petticoat under, but I can't find anything like that here (Phoenix, AZ). Second problem is that she doesn't know about the cruise. All she knows is that we are flying somewhere to do something for her bday.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. I want to allow her to be a princess all night one night.princess:

For Princess stuff look for halloween costumes (especially on clearance after halloween!) Just got a catalog from Shindigz.com that had lots of princess stuff in it, but pretty $$!

For dinner attire, Target has great stuff for not too much $.

Good LucK!

Thanks, our target has the non-fancy skirt look, or the unfinished arms and waist, which is what causes the problem. How is Shindigz for finishing? Any experience? I would pay the $70+, if it was finished.

Do a google search for "girls pagent dresses." Several sites will come up that sell little girl formals.

Can't say about Shindigz. I haven't ordered from them before, but they do have a 30 day return if it was too "itchy".

Last Christmas Target had a line of holiday dresses (can't remember the brand name now) that were full skirted and lined. I don't remember exactly when they were in the store, but DD's wore them at Thanksgiving so I'd start checking the store around late October? I also have one with sensitive skin. I routinely cut out all tags (hence why I don't have the brand name for the above mentioned dresses - :rotfl2: ). We also use unscented everything and double rinse the laundry. Good Luck!

Hadn't even thought about pagent dresses. EXCELLENT IDEA!!!

About the tags, yep, half the time I can't remember the size something is. Still using baby detergent on her clothes. Strange how she is fine in the pool though.

Thanks again!

hit goodwill stores-they usualy have a good selection of bridesmaids and flower girl dresses (worn once-beautiful and less than $10.00). also check out david's bridal or other chains in your area, they are usualy clearning out their little girls spring or summery styles right now (also a great place for women to find formal night bargains).

Try www.littlemissprincess.com. We found some really beautiful formals with buy-1-get-1 free! We spent $112 for three. Size for our 4-year-old was pretty close. For our 15-month-old who will be 2 next September, the dress was WAY off. Good luck! My oldest has a horrible time with "costume" princess dresses, too. I tore up a soft t-shirt and hand stitched it around the tummy and shoulders.

This is who I got DD's dress from in the picture below. It was wonderful & very affordable. The ebay ID is angelickids. Here is a link to one of her finished auctions. Go to her store & enter the size & color you are looking for. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=8202179623&rd=1&sspagename=STRK:MEWA:IT&rd=1

Lisa,

Your daughter is beautiful! How was the inside of the dress? Did it leave red marks anywhere on your daughter? Did she complain it was itchy or hurt? I paid $20 for the "official" Disney Snow White outfit, and it tore my DD, 4, up something awful.

I haven't posted anything in over 2 years, but I just booked a family reunion land/sea in Dec. 06! But I had to jump in and say that I recommend the ebay seller you linked to as well. As a matter of fact, my daughter had the same exact dress wehn she had breakfast at the castle as your daughter from the same ebay store! I loved... just sold it at a garage sale and will probably regret it :guilty:
Thank you for all of the information you so kindly share...I see your posts all the time! :goodvibes

I ALSO RECOMMEND THIS EBAY SELLER. wE HAVE 2 DRESSES THAT SHE MADE FOR MY DAUGHTER LAST YEAR AND SHE HAD HAD NO PROBLEMS...THEY ARE VERY SOFT INSIDE AND VERY MUCH WOTH THE MONEY.....WE ARE PROBABLY GOING TO GET ANOTHER DRESS FOR THE CRUISE THIS YEAR.... ::MinnieMo

There are no scratchy fabrics or seams inside the dress. I did get it a little big so that DD can wear it again this year but I think that if it had been uncomfortable she would have said something. The dress hangs loosely so that may be the reason it doesn't irritate the skin? I just recommend stitching the flowers onto the fabric and also stitch the waist sash to the pins. They are all just glued on & will come off at some point.

ktpool, thank you for your kind words. I have received much more help than I have ever given on these boards. :) I have lost track of how many PMs I get about DD's dress.

Wow, great prices! Can't believe what a great find. I was tempted to PM you in the past but didn't want to bother you. You post so often, and I know you have a lot to follow.

Thank you for saving me $100 on a dress. I was near desparate enough to give up my massage!

THX to everyone...

Keep on cruisen

I hope that it didn't sound like I was bothered at all by the PMs. I have actually tried to put the link to the seller in my signature but it would change & get messed up. Glad that I could help you! :) It's great to be able to save so much.

We are going on the 4 day, thinking that there was going to be a formal night. I brought my DD's fancy dresses to wear. Is there a night on the 4 day that they can wear these dresses and not feel out of place?

Not at all, it was my own paranoia that got in the way of PMing anyone. :rotfl2: Again, thanks for all the good advice. I just hope after my cruise I can begin to help 1/10 as much as you do! :goodvibes
