Hi My daughter's girl scout troop (I'm cookie mom) is holding a booth sale this weekend and I wanted to offer people the option to donate if they didn't want to purchase for themselves. The council is only taking donations for the homeless shelter but you can do something on your own. I wanted to do something for the troops but didn't know how to go about it. Does anyone know of an organization that does it?

Thanks!

Operation Gratitude

Our council uses them to send the donated cookies to. The girls can make cards and such to go with the packages.

I am collecting cookies for the troops this weekend at my booth sale. I am going to decorate a box for the troops that they can put cookies into after they purchase them. Then I will take them to my church, they collect items for the troops and send them. You could call your local veteran's office and find out how you could donate. Just make sure you do not collect any money for them, G.S. are not allowed to do that.
Our collection around here is called Gifts of Sharing and there is a fun patch for it.

Just wanted to say thank you. My husband has received so many cookies from GS troops. I have pictures of my husband and others off loading pallets of cookies and having oodles of cookies and coffee. They had cookie eating contests and cookie buffett social night and one guy was building structures from his cookies.

Remember depending on when you star sending the cookies, it will start warming up soon. The chocolate thin mints should be good to send until about May then it starts warming up there.

That is so wonderful to hear! DD's GS troop participated in Operation Cookie Drop and collected a good bit of money to send boxes of cookies out :thumbsup2
And many thanks to your DH for his service!

My dd's troop has been donating cookies for a couple years now. I'm so glad to hear that the cookies are being enjoyed. If you don't mind, I know the girls would love to see your pictures.

Once again, thank you and Matt for everything you do.

I volunteer for VFW troops support and that's something that we can put in our care packages, so you can check with the VFW in your area to see if they do it, if not, hey, we'll take you cookies. We're VFW Post #2995 in Lake Washington/Redmond, WA. http://www.vfwpost-2995.org/ I can give you the contact info for our leader if you're interested. just PM me. He's a great guy. WW2 vet.

It depends on what your council has approved. Our Council has Gift's of Caring and people donate the money, not the box of cookies. Customers can fill out a GOC form and they give me the money and I turn in the slips. Then Council sends the cookie boxes directly to where they need to go. :thumbsup2

OP, find out what your council approves of and go from there. :)

As you are in Central Jersey, please contact Operation Shoebox. They have a website. Our troop donates their cookies to them. They attempt to put a box of cookies in each care package they send. They are a legitimate group that sends thousands of packages of year. Your troop can even help during a packing day. They are a wonderful organization and grateful for the cookies. Your girls can even deliver to their site. It's in Hillsborough.

If you want more information, please don't hesitate to PM. Also, we always decorate a box with camouflage material or military type stickers from the scrapbook store. Then we have a big sign that we are selling cookies to send to the troops. We usually sell about 2 dozen cookies at a 2 hour booth sale. But we also do the Gift of Caring during the regular sale season and sell at least 4 dozen boxes. Last year, I sold at least 10 dozen boxes for them myself. This year wasn't a good year.

We do gifts of caring and we collect the money and buy the cookies and we ship them... we found out "operation homefront" that will ship them over seas for free. Or maybe call the USO and see if you can find someone that will ship it for you. It is very expensive to ship we would have lost money.

I do my own "drop" since the way they were being distributed last year bothered me. So, my DH is over in Iraq right now and family and friends bought them for me to personally send to him (I bough 100+ boxes myself to send). I sent over nearly 60 boxes thus far and will be sending more. I paid for the shipping - fine with me as I know they are actually getting to him and he is handing them out. I pack the large priority boxes - so far everyone has made it there!

We have Operation Cookie drop here as well which people have contributed too.

my husband's unit got a bunch while they were in Texas (before he left for Iraq) and he was like there is sooo much here I don't know if I need any more lol. I ordered a bunch of boxes to send before I knew that. I don't know if they packed the boxes with them but I kinda doubt it. He said people sent a lot of different things, from candy to knitted hats and this is before they even left for Iraq. I would talk to the VFW thought about it.

When my daughter's troop did the cookies to donate for the troops, I paid for them to be sent over to a local unit that was stationed in Iraq. I knew the First Sergant's wife from soccer and so wanted to make sure our local soldiers got some from home. It made many of the girls feel really good because they also got to meet the soldiers when they returned home. That made it real to them as most had nothing to do with the Army or military.
