..Anyone know when Girl Scouts will be starting their cookie campaign this year? I am really looking forward to having a samoa! I thought it was late winter/early spring.. DH went to the farmer's market this weekend, where the girls usually have a table, and not a girl scout in sight!

Thanks,

Here's what's on our local girl scout council's webpage:

Initial Sale Dates: Jan. 7-23, 2005. Order taking will continue through mid March.

I am cookie manager for our troop, and I am picking up our initial batch of orders on Monday. It is different in every region though.

In my area the cookie sale has already ended. The cookies won't be arriving until March though.

We got our cookies in January. Unfortunately they are almost gone, except for a couple boxes I hid in the freezer.

I am a leader and a trainer, each area has a different schedule. We sold in January for 3 weeks and placed the order, but the cookies won't come until March 8th. So, it really depends on where you are, but it should be the same every year regardless. We always sell in January and get delivery in March :).

In Northern CA we just finished presales and begin booth sales in March. I always start out enthused but by the end of March I'm more than ready to say goodbye to that last box of cookies.

I was just thinking about this today. I haven't been getting out much due to being so sore and tired with the pregnancy (hence, not seeing any girl scouts outside the grocery store, etc)...I could use a box of Samoas and a box of the peanut butter ones. Nummy.

I would be more than happy to get any cookies you want, we always have extras since we do 2 booth sales. They are $3.50 a box and whatever shipping them to you would cost. (Too bad they won't fit in with the swap items!!!) Of course I won't have them till the 8th, if anyone wants any, just send me a PM.

Hmmmm...I may have to think about that! I will see if I see any Girl Scouts out and about this weekend or so...if not, I may just have to PM you!

Now, where can I get the Camp Fire thin mints! :p

We got ours last month, from the county where DH works. The county we live in will be distributing theirs this week. Weird how it's so different in neighborhing counties.

Check with your local council. They should be listed in the phone book under Girl Scouts - name of council. That is a national standard now. In any event, as already noted each council selects their own sales schedule. Although many are this time of year.

In our area we took orders through early Feb and will get cookies for distribution in early March. However, we are able to continue taking add on orders through about April, delivery based on availability as our council always orders a lot of extras for booth sales, and the plain fact that many people are missed each year during initial orders.

If your council isn't able to accomodate you, I'm sure there are plenty of Scout leaders here on the boards with someone in your area to help out. I won't infringe directly on the offer to ship though that has already been made. :wave2:

Thanks for all the replies! I was pretty sure it was earlier in the year rather than later. We haven't pre-ordered (didn't know we could..) so I guess we'll have to wait and maybe find a local council. I only get a couple of boxes, and freeze them for later in the year :) I also love that Edy's ice cream makes samoa and thin mint ice creams.. Also, I was once lucky enough to walk into a milwaukee frozen custard, a day or so after they had made samoa ice cream, heavenly!

Thanks again,

Another Girl Scout cookie mom here  We've just finished up presales in southern California, I'll have a house full of cookies February 27th and our booth sales start March 4th. Our cookies are $4.00 a box :earseek:

We have already received our cookie shipment and do our first booth in two weeks. Our cookies are only 3.00 a box though.......I know diferent regions use different bakers, such as Little Brownie Bakers and ABC bakers.....what types of cookies do you all sell? Im looking for the unusual types, like last year my daughter was in one council that was selling pinatas and the other council I was leading for has double dutch.

camlace -
That is terrific for your council to do. My girls asked about doing an Internet booth sale (the are Seniors...OOPS! Excuse me "older girls 14-18) and were told absolutely not. National "prohibits" the use of the internet as a sales channel. Hmmm....wonder if my local council is missing something?

I thought it was unusual as well...I couldn't find any other MA councils doing it. I sent in my order last week. We'll see if it gets processed or if National catches on that this is going on and it is not supposed to be.

Maybe it isn't considered an "internet sale" because you have to mail or fax in your order :confused3 and you can't actually order them on the web?

Another Girl Scout person here - trainer, past leader, events coordinator, past service unit manager, etc.

Different regions do use different bakers but that may not be why the prices are different. We had to raise our prices a few years ago by $.50 because we had a loss in our budget. That $.50 brought in over $100,000 the following year. That then allowed us to be able to give a little more to the troops as well. Ours are $3.50 and there is a areas around us who some are $4.00, some are $2.50 just a county away. It's a budget issue, not necessarily a baker issue.

Good luck and hope that you find some cookies, looks like there are plenty here that will help out. I shipped some a few years ago to people on the DIS and they arrived safe and sound!!!!
