On my recent Dream cruise (December 8th), they offered Gingerbread House making. We noticed it in the Navigator on the day we boarded the ship and it said to sign up at Guest Services. Feeling that this would be popular (and it proved to be), we went right to Guest Services and got a ticket for each stateroom. There were two offerings that cruise: 11:00am on the Nassau day, and another one on the Castaway Cay day. It was held in Animator's Palate, and they offer one Gingerbread house to be made per stateroom (I believe).

When we walked into Animator's Palate, all the Gingerbread materials were on tables. We were directed to a table by the Cruise Staff and then a chef demonstrated how to make your Gingerbread House (and there was a video camera on his work space so his instructions were shown on all the video screens in the restaurant). Once the chef showed us how to build the house, we were then free to design it however we liked. Cruise Staff members then walked around and offered tips or comments, took pictures for you, and provided more materials if necessary. It was a fun activity for sure!

After you completed your house, it was yours to take away! Now, you cannot take it off the ship with you at the end of the cruise, so we left it as decoration in our stateroom. We ate a tiny bit of it, but ultimately just left it in the stateroom at the end of our cruise to be thrown away.

I took lots of pictures, but I haven't even transferred the pictures from my camera to my computer yet. Hopefully I'll do that soon so I can share some pictures! :)

We were on a cruise that left the Saturday after Thanksgiving and the gingerbread house making was offered. As PP mentioned, this is a very popular event and the tickets will go very quickly.

If you want to attend, head to guest services right away and get your tickets (free) so you can create your masterpiece!

I am not sure if this is offered on the Thanksgiving cruise, nor am I sure of when the tree is put up, but it was up when we boarded on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. That was actually the first official tree lighting and my DS was chosen to the the Prince of the High Seas and "light" the tree. It was a great experience and a magical way to start our cruise last year!

Just to let others know who cruise later in the year, they do a tree lighting the first night of each cruise with a special family [or person] to do the lighting with the characters. :thumbsup2 It is up by the end of the second week in November.

Basically as above--it occurs during the 7 night December cruises. One house per family. Get free tickets at GS as soon as possible after boarding as it will be very popular. I think it was offered twice on our 7 night cruise.

We were just on the Magic December 3 sailing and did the Gingerbread house decorating. We picked up our free tickets at Guest Services. You get one house per family (Stateroom). We did ours the second day on the ship...so we could enjoy it as long as possible..since you can not take it off the ship :guilty:

It was alot of fun!! The house is pre-cut for you and you are given a bag of frosting and a bunch of candies.

I never saw anything in the Navigators about it...so be sure to check with Guest Services when you first get on the ship!!

If the tickets are gone, they won't list it in the Navigator--no point in disappointing more guests than necessary!

Is this only on the 7-day cruises? We're aout to take a 4-day on the Dream and I know dd would love this!

thanks!

I have read that it is available on 4 night cruises, but can only verify from personal experience on 7 nighters.

The cruise I was referring to in my post is the 3-night Dream, so I'm assuming it would be on the 4-night as well! It was even offered twice on the 3-night! :)

This is EXACTLY what I needed to know!!! You guys are awesome.

Guest services will be my first stop.:santa:

You'll be joining me in that line Joan. Oh yeah, first stop. :thumbsup2 I'm sending the rest of the family to eat if I can.
My port arrival time is 11am, so I figure I have a chance.
See you in just 9 days.

Wish I could say what time I'll get there! We area taking the bus from the WL; this is my 4th Disney cruise but the first one that I've taken the Disney bus for, and I have no idea what time we'll get there! Keeping my fingers crossed that I have no surprises.

A few thoughts about this, now that we're home from our trip and things are back to normal!

I did see the Gingerbread house decorating listed in the Navigator (Fun for the Whole Family on p3) on the first day of the cruise 12/24 . . . but, the Navigators were in the cruise terminal, in racks that were on a counter all the way at the end of the check-in desks. The person who checked us in did not give us a Navigator; and there wasn't one in our cabin on arrival. I happened to see them in the terminal; and grabbed one before we got on the ship. It wasn't listed in the Navigator on Christmas Day. I got the feeling that people who do this activity find out from a source like these boards or from a previous cruise.

I made it to guest services by 1:45 after we boarded. Tickets for the 10am session were gone and there were only tickets left for 9am.

This was held in Studio Sea on Christmas Day. The kits were regular Wilton kits that you could buy at WalMart or Target; and you assembled them with icing and decorated them with the simple candies that come with the kits. There was one family that brought their own M&Ms and other candies to decorate! It was a lot of fun and, only took about 30 - 45 minutes to complete. By the time we left, the CMs were setting up kits for the 10am session. Very happy we did this. Yes, they do tell you that it can't be brought off the ship. We brought ours back to our cabins; and had it in the kids's cabin on the desk. Here's DS11 and DS17 with our house:
