gingerbread holiday room competition details up

Yes, we are really disappointed too. My daughter worked really hard on her room this weekend, and did a great job. Then the registration is only during the time we are gone from the house for her dance and voice lessons. Of course, it is already closed by the time we get back.

same here i wrote a complant to vmk before saying that they should of given us a notice at the weekend or made it more then 2000 since more then 10000 play daily
i know how you feel its unfair

That was my first thought when all of a sudden this registration shows up. If I did not have a few boards to read would have missed the ride a thon a Friday, and the sign up.

They are improving in so many ways wish they would remember how many time zones play this. It is sad our Europe friends miss so much of VMK already now this.

sounds like vmk just needs to start thinking these things through a little more. i'm glad they're releasing all these cool, new things and making so many neat changes. but it seems that for every cool thing they do, we get another big mess-up. i know i'd be happier with less new stuff if they'd just fix everything else and think things like this out more, and start being fair to EVERYONE in vmk.

Didn't they say that the option would be removed as soon as they had 2000 entries? If I registered last night and the option was there, but I did not get a confirmation, do you think I am registered? I sent a message to contact us about not getting the confirmation letter.

3 Things could have happened here
1. you registered but didnt follow the registration format to the letter
2. you registered but they already had 2000 entries and not enough time to remove the register option from the Contact Us page
or
3. The confirmation was picked up by your Email spam filter, look in your junk or spam mail folders.

I'm in the same boat as you Monkey. I also sent in my registration (twice!)while the drop-down choice for the contest was still up, and did not get the confirmation e-mail. I've checked my e-mail filter (not turned on) and checked my screened mail folder (nothing in it). My e-mail provider is NOT on the VMK taboo list.

I sent in a message to contact us, but don't have much hope that I'll get in the contest now. I am 99% sure that I entered correctly. I submitted my entry this way:

Lauralee (on first line)
Gingerbread House Lauralee (on second line)

I think that they really need to find a different way to decide who gets to participate. Essentially if someone was not on yesterday, they don't get to participate. Monkey, SOOOO happy to see your post. We were JUST talking about whether you registered since you weren't on at all yesterday.

My husband has really been enjoying playing with the gingerbread pieces and having never built a THING in vmk is really good at it! I mentioned him registering and he said, "I'll do it tomorrow night."

What about long-time players who were at work, school, family commitments, last minute Christmas shopping last night, etc...? And we've already discussed the time change issue. I have at least 1 VMK friend outside the US that got shut out simply due to the giant time difference.

I really really REALLY hope ppl didn't register 5 mules just to get the entry prize and that there truly are 2,000 players participating. Maybe it needs to be a "Enter in the next 5 days. A lottery of 2,000 players will be selected to participate to allow everyone a chance." I don't know, just sad for fellow players.

ETA: I registered at some point yesterday mid-day. I received my confirmation e-mail at 8:30pm last night.

Count me as one of the disappointed.

We were celebrating my son's birthday yesterday, so missed out completely.

Would it have been so difficult for them to announce the opening of registration, like they usually do? Although I guess that could be just as unfair to people who happen to be at work at the time.

Don't really know the answer. Just know I have a very sad daughter on my hands, because she was really looking forward to entering... not for the prize, but just for the thrill of building it and getting judged.

Oh well, I'm a diehard Cubs and Bears fan -- guess it's "better luck next year"!

I do believe the registration time period was open longer, than what I originally first thought. I'm just wondering for players that have entered an event like this in the past - if this is how registration has always been? Meaning, first so many players get registered, or a certain time frame to register by?

I am sorry for those that are not able to participate. That being said, we all know how vmk operates. If everything was the same for everyone, it would simply be boring I guess. Do I need to remind everyone about Dreams Month? Many, many people believe that Month wasn't fair either. Gray Mansion suit - for sale one day only. Many missed out as well. The list goes on. This too shall pass.

As far as different time zones ... well most in different time zones are able to do quests or some special Host events. Registration was open during the time a Host event would have been going on. So, I do think that this registration time period did happen to be available to them, and they simply just missed it. It happens. The time zone arguement would be a point of discussion for everyone then. I've missed great quests and host events before, haven't we all! WE ALL WILL MISS SOMETHING AT SOME POINT, simply because we cannot, live and breathe vmk all the time.

Yes, this is a busy month for EVERYONE. Yes, everyone has last minute shopping to do, parties to attend, school going on, family commitments and vacations. The list goes on. But we have all read the newsletter, were forewarned, and knew this competition was coming up. We also knew it would most likely be by the end of the month, because of the gingerbread pieces (the name of the event) and usually a new month (January), means a new theme.

This is a game. Everyone needs to be on the top of their game. You never know what vmk is going to do, and when.

Also, I can't stress enough to read DIS. Aengus told us many times in this thread alone, to just REGISTER and worry about building, rules and everything else later.

This was a fair registration process. I'm afraid a "lottery" or any other way ... we would have been seeing threads of it not being fair. So, THANK-YOU VMK FOR THAT!!

VMK can't possibly PLEASE EVERYONE. That is what I learned most.

Hey Astro,

Usually in the past, they would post in advance when registration was to begin -- for example, Monday 12/17 at 8 AM PST. That way you could plan for it.

But as I said earlier, even that leaves people out, if they are in school or at work, or whatever, so yes, there will always be discontent.

Sometimes it just helps for us to come on here and voice our disappointment to our friends, not necessarily looking for a resolution.

It's a great idea that Dis is sponsoring a contest of their own, too!

Thanks for letting me know about what has been done in the past. I didn't know. And yes, that way you obviously could plan for it.

It is very helpful to have a place such as DIS, to voice our own opinions. Whether we agree or disagree on a certain topic of discussion. Could not agree with you more on that. Believe me, I've had plenty to say on many different topics.

I just read the thread about the DIS contest, and that is a wonderful idea for those that didn't get to register. :thumbsup2

Woo Who! Got my confirmation! It just came in within the last few hours, so I guess they sent another.

We have to wait for the next Yavn Speaks to find out the Prizes. And a Purple Judging Flag. Woot PURPLE! what a pretty color! :)

Oh and fantasymooma is in the Competition!! :santa:

I wholeheartedly agree with those who think this was not really handled in the best way. I can understand in a way that advance notice could flood the system and make it crash, but this wasn't really fair. I had a huge, almost 100 page paper due today and a final; I was working myself silly last night and just happened to get the idea to pop over here for five minutes to take a break. If I hadn't I wouldn't have been able to register and neither would my mom or dad (we all share my computer). I would've been so bummed; would've felt like all the hours my mom and I spent riding were for nada. I wish they would come up with some better way to do this, although I don't know what that is if advance notice really does cause a flooded system or something. Sorry to all who didn't make it in. :sad1:

I have a question for anyone who has participated in the old competitions for VMK. I was just wondering if that flag that you get is trade able or if you can put it in another room of yours that the hosts didn't place it in.

Thanks!

I got one for the Space Mountain ride competition. You can't trade the flags, but you can move them from room to room or leave them in your inventory. But you wouldn't want to do that though before the competition ends, I don't think.

I saw host lily and she answered some questions in regard to the competition

No rides, they dont have time with so many rooms to judge (they wont ride it, doesnt mean you cant have one) But you do not need to have one like it said in that confirmation letter

No multiple rooms. Just one. another time issue.

if your name doesnt fit. put as much of it as you can. and if nothing fits put a word that starts with same first letter. I will give examples.

gingerbread house acebestdjbestace wont fit
so i use
gingerbread house ace best

gingerbread house zelberouasdgkji wont fit
cant find any part of my name to use
so i pick something that starts with the same letter as my name
gingerbread house zebra

hope this helps answer some of those questions

Judging will begin on Wednesday, December 26th and end Sunday, January 13th...

While it is not required, VMK encourages you to keep your room open during the event so other players can enjoy what you have created.

Well, as much as I'd like to, I'm not sure I can keep my room open for nearly three weeks!

I guess we can assume that there will not be any host events during the span of time?

Let's see...2000 (or so) entries, divided by 19 days. That's just over 105 rooms being judged every day. Divide that by 4 (presuming that all Host_'s will be judging), and that means each host will judge 26-27 rooms a day.

Perhaps we'll have host events afterall! W00t!

I tried to register or think I did but not sure I did it right since I'm new this year and never tried any prior.........So anyway I did the Contact us, entered info under Gingerbread House.......and got letter in regular email....QUESTION is: Is that first letter I received (which was really almost immediately received upon completion of registration info) the same as the confirmation letter? I'm asking because I am not positive I entered info right....any help to this appreciated.
