GIMP question

I have been hearing good things about a program called GIMP and went to thier site to download it for a try. (www.gimp.org). After checking out the site , I have decided not to download it because I am not really sure what to download,, Seems like I need to download many small programs and then put them together which is beyound my poor tired brain to do. Am I missing something?

goto the Gimp for windows section instead of the Downloads, use the automated installer.

Never used it but have heard about the confusion

Additional packages are not required, but the runtime enviroment is(might already be installed on your pc but no harm in trying to install).
