Gift Ideas for a Newborn

My nephew is two and what I did was opened a Capital 360 savings account. I put $100 (which is what I would spend on him anyway) in there for every birthday and Christmas, instead of giving him a bunch of toys and clothes that get lost in the sea of gifts everyone else gives him and gets forgotten. I’ll give it to him when he turns 18. Thinking almost 4K will be in there at the time. Maybe a little cushion to buy a car or paying for a week at college by that time? Lol I will still get him a little gift. Let’s be real. He’s happiest with a $5 pack of Hot Wheels.

My DS is 17 and will graduate in May. He got a lot of stuff when he was born, but I can only remember one specific thing. My aunt and uncle got him a share of Disney stock. My aunt knew we didn't really need anything with the showers and newborn gifts, so she thought this would be fun and maybe buy a college textbook. I guess I should look to see if he should sell it before he goes to college! He didn't know he had it until 5th grade and studied stocks for the first time. He will every once in awhile check on the price.

My DD 15 got a baby's cross necklace from a different aunt and uncle. My mom gave her a pearl necklace that her grandma had given her when she was born. If fit my DD for her one year old pictures.

I tend to give a book with an inscription inside.

Personally I would get a traditional charm bracelet with the dangling kind of charms, and not Pandora or such. To me, the traditional kind is timeless. But that's up to you. I am 49 and still have the bracelet that my parents gave me as a teenager. I occasionally add more charms even today to commemorate something special.

As for size, you could start with a small size that your DN could wear on special occasions from her preschool to tween years. Then for her 12th or 13th birthday you could get her an adult size and offer to move all the charms to the larger bracelet. This would be something special that she treasures and remembers her aunt and uncle, as well as the meaning of all the charms.

Any jewelry store or Amazon. Of course, how much you will pay depends on the material you choose, but this style bracelet, then any jeweler can just add the charms.

I don't have a specific brand. Sorry. My bracelet is sterling silver and has been collected over 30 years. I often find them in jewelry shops, but you can find lots of sites online that sell them. Also Etsy has a huge selection. I like that my charms are all a bit different and not all from one company.

Our daughter was given a high quality child's rocking chair that she loved for many years. We kept it and her daughter is currently enjoying it. It will be stored for our future great grandchildren, and hopefully used for many generations.

Our son's Godfather bought bonds for our son. Our son is now in college. They will help pay for it.

I also like the idea of a handmade gift. If you knit, a blanket would be great.
