Hi I am looking for a unique gift for a new adopted baby. A business partner of DH and his wife, after years of heartache, finally have a beautiful little baby boy. I did go to the shower a few weeks back, but I am looking for something different to get the baby. Any thoughts. I don't mind spending alot so any suggestions are appreciated. What is something that you received that you would have never bought yourself?

Thanks guys.

How old is this baby boy and what sort of things do they need? If they don't have anything yet, a bassinet would be something nice cause they could move it from room to room. Maybe you could give us a bit more info.
Oh, another nice gift for the family would be a gift certificate to get their family portrait taken together.

How about a GC or something similar to a photography place to have some pictures done?

I read that here before and thought it was a great idea! :D

mommytotwo-We must have been posting at the same time! :wave2:

I have to agree with mommytotwo. A gift certificate to a portrait studio to have the baby's first picture or family portrait taken was the best baby gift I ever received. I thought it was a very unique and useful gift. My friend gave it to us along with a handmade baby photo album.

I buy baby blankets that are embroidered with the name and birthdate. They are terrific, stand up to years of abuse, and are so soft! The website is www.babyobaby.com (Hope it is okay to post that, if not and it is edited out, please pm me for the address.)

When I was reading the orignal post I was going to suggest the portrait idea. I did this for some friends a couple of years ago when they adopted. That was something that they had never thought of before. Also someone gave my DD when she was born a proof set from the US Mint of the year she was born. I thought that it was a thoughtful gift. It came from a older gentleman and I had not expected anything from him.

The portrait sounds like a wonderful idea. The baby is a new born, and was a long time coming. After many years they are absolutley thrilled. This baby was born so to speak with a silver spoon in his mouth, so anything and everything is already there. The nursery is just too much for words. It was professionaly done in a jungle theme, and is quite exquisite.

Any other suggestions are appreciated.

I have also given a gift certificate to a photographer accompanied by a frame. Both Waterford and Lenox have a babiy collection

My favorite thing for my kids was a sterling silver infant feeding spoon and child's fork and spoon, all engraved with their names. Very special, and not many people do sterling any more, but it's oh so nice. My kids use theirs every day, so it's good and beat up, but they'll always have it (and I'll have proof that they really did put all those dents in my table with their forks  )

Here's a good place to get it....a little less here than some other places... Ross-Simons baby gift section

One example

If you want a little more, you could pair it with an engraved cup, too.....

Or, how about this for the room? Zebra rocker

Might also check www.poshtots.com ....They have LOTS of stuff for the baby who has everything....

I was just going to suggest a similar idea...........something engraved with the childs name on .

A girl could get a baby braclet or baby brooch

Boy. could get a baby brooch

But I do think something with the childs name makes it that much more special & as long as it is something special they can then keep it to look back on when they are older::yes::

If the baby is under 6 months... I like to make a basket with a couple home made bibs from nice terry wash cloths (or bought bibs), a dozen of those inexpensive wash cloths for wipe ups after meals, a few interesting feeding tools, and copies of my homemade recipes for baby foods. I did a lot of research at the library when I was expecting #1 and found some wonderful recipes for baby meats and veggies. I sometimes also include a mason jar I have made a fancy top for full of outlet plugs for baby proofing.

The people I have given these too have really told me they loved them. I used to have one I put together on my kitchen counter and it made it so easy to have everything in one place.

I had two boys and each had their own color of wash cloths and bibs to make things simple for DH and me.
