Gift from MIL

How nice!!

My girls got their presents from their dad in the mail yesterday. He sent them each an ugly t shirt (their words, not mine) and a $25 gift card. He has a good job, just got a huge bonus at work, barely pays any child support at all, so it's not like he couldn't have sent them more.

He's just so dang cheap it makes me crazy...

Is he an Ex-husband? If so, then you can steal the mantra my mother gave me ...."he's an ex for a reason". Put another way, he will do all kinds of things that will send you over the edge on a regular basis...if he was "Reasonable", "nice" and "responsible" he probably wouldn't be an ex! :lmao: The best gift you can give your girls is a positive image of the father, without regard to how you view his actions. If dad is a jerk, they will find out on their own at some point. Chin up!

I'm really surprised to hear all this about MIL's since I am one. We're giving her the lotions she likes, a gift certificate to get her hair done, numerous other little things and $100 cash in her Christmas card. As a family gift they are getting a 32 inch flat screen tv because theirs just died, they don't know about this. Plus we bought for the 3 grandsons, they are getting a Wii along with a bunch of other things they asked for, way to much to list here.

From my MIL I know we will both get money in our cards and we are happy with that.

My MIL sent gift cards for christmas for the whole family which was great but I think she ran out of money for my daughter's bday on the 23rd because she only got $5 and a christmas card. Considering my other dd got $30 for her bday it hasn't gone over well.

This is therapy... Hello my name is TNMouseFan and I have a crazy MIL....:rotfl2:
My DH and I have lived in the same house for the last 10 years. My MIL lives about 15 minutes away. For 3 years I have gotten things to do with a fireplace for Christmas (fireplace "poker" set, the candleholders that go in the fireplace (with NO candles), and the wire screen) but our house has NO FIREPLACE!!!
:rolleyes1 she's clueless....

Thanks to all of you for the great MIL stories. I am a MIL myself and have taken notes!:rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Please let us know how this year goes.

I do not have a "gift story" but I do have an intersting MIL story.

1994...just got married to the 'prodical" son. Wedding proofs are in, the excited bride and groom go to his parents house to show photos.

MIL opens book, flips through looking bored and says....I do not like my hair in any of the photos, the NEXT TIME you do this, I am going to a differant hair dresser.

OH Yeah...gotta love the MIL.

So the saying goes....you can't pick your family.

PS...we are still married and it took me many years, atleast 10 t realize, she is just sad and lonely. She has no friends because her glowing personality doesn't allow anyone to like her.

Now, I tolerate her, laugh alot and just accept that she is nuts!:rotfl2:

Wow.:scared:
You guys have some seriously scary MIL's:scared1:
All of my gifts from my inlaws today were wonderful and exactly what I needed.
I mentioned once awhile ago how much I love breakfast in bed with the kids but we had no trays.
I got 4 lovely lap trays for our breakfasts.
That's just an example of how they listen and try to get us something we need or want.
Looks like I am very lucky.

I have the best MIL in the world. Sorry to hear the horror stories from those that don't...She's considerate, kind, and loves my cooking. She cooked us an amazing Christmas Eve dinner. She has admitted to ruining my wife growing up (no cooking, no cleaning, no domestic skills whatsoever), but that's why my wife has me! She gifts us every day with kindness and love and has outdone herself with kindness and generosity for my children, my wife, and myself this Christmas. God Bless her and my FIL! We are soooo lucky!!

This board certainly gives MIL's a bad name! LOL!

I, too, was blessed with the most thoughtful, caring inlaws! My MIL was one of my closest friends. My FIL is still with us and is an absolute love. Past gifts have ranged from beautiful jewelry to paying for two weeks for us in Disney. Best of all, they have always treated me like a beloved daughter and adore my wild boys and little princess!

Gifts for me in the past have included a trash can and an automatic cat litter box...different years.

Sending a message? ;)

I think I may win the award after this Christmas.....
I got an 8 pack of birthday invitations from the dollar store yesterday from MIL:rotfl2:
After 10 years, I have learned to laugh these things off.
Truth be told, she is my husbands step-monster! He lost his mother over 10 ago who would have been wonderful!!

Thanks for the laughs.:rotfl2:

In comparison my MIL was an angel.

Dear MIL once gave me $50 in Disney Dollars shortly before a trip -- this is a woman who knows me well -- one of the best gifts I've ever gotten...

My own mother on the other hand, last year gave me a gift in a small Walt Disney World Box -- we had just gotten back from a trip together so I was so happy that she would have gotten me a gift while we were there and it would have to be good if it came from WDW, right?!!

Well, when I opened it, it was an *EXPIRED* gift certificate to some spa that I don't go to (??) She said she was going to re-activate it (whatever -it's been a year, and she still hasn't reactivated it).

Even worse, she keeps talking about these hanging earrings she bought in Disney, maybe she will give them to my DD, but she's not sure if they are too big for her -- HMM, I wear big hanging earrings and I love Disney and I have the perfect box to store them in --want to trade them for an expired gift card???? :rotfl:

PS Both I love both women. They both treat me with love & kindness, but my mom could definitely do better in the gift department LOL

My MIL has three sons, and my DH is not the "Golden" one, and the "golden" one's wife is her pet too. (when we got finished opening presents the other night, one of her grandkids said "Nana, you didnt give mama her purse like yours (Dooney and Burke)... needless to say, she looked like a deer in headlights!) :scared1: We all get pretty good presents, but it is disgusting how she acts over them. I have had a hard time getting used to this... my mom treats my husband like her own son.

Anyway, my grandma and my aunt are the worst. I will never forget when I was 6 my cousin got the Barbie remote controlled corvette. I was so excited until I unwrapped my present... a shower radio! Um, Hello, I was 6... I will never forget that as long as I live. Yesterday, me and my mom got one pair of nasty granny panties (out of the same pack) that were about 4 sizes too big. Then, Grandma proceeded to tell everyone how fat I was getting and my husband wouldnt want me anymore!!! I am 145 pounds and 5 foot 7... I have finally learned to laugh it all off. I am blessed with a wonderful husband, and the best mama and daddy in the world! :grouphug:

at our christmas eve dinner my mother in law kept talking to my SIL about their upcoming couples only trip to mexico with theer spouses...
to celebrate their anniversary (jan) and my SIL anniversary (feb)
guess what? my husband and i got married in feb too....
really hurt my feelings.. : (

My MIL is always so good about asking my DH what to buy me and the kids . This year she called and asked and then didnt listen I guess????:confused3

I got a wierd pair of earings and a matching wierd cross necklace . Now the part that makes them wierd is that it looks like she had never met me before.
I have 2 necklaces I wear , one is a piece from Tiffany and the other is a gold roap chain with a Mickey Mouse Icon on it . She has known me for almost 12 years and even comments on how much I must love the 2 necklaces . I have 2 holes in each ear and I wear 2 sets of diamonds , 1 is a set of Mickey Mouse diamonds that are 1/2 carat each , and in the top holes I have some 1/4 carat diamonds . If I dress up I will put in diamond hoops on the bottom . BUT THAT IS IT !!
She has commented on it so many times that I was just in shock that she bought the wierd earings .

I in no way think I am to good for other earings ! It is just the way I do it and she knows with my OCD it is hard to change even small things.

Thank God my Dh made up for it with more DVC at BLT . My Uncle bought me DVC at Disneyland so I made out like a bandit BUT the wierd MIL gift is freaking me out a little . She always does so good and now I am afraid this is a peak at my future .
