Gift for school bus driver - cash or gas gift card?

Our garbage is collected the old fashioned way, and if a can is even still touching our driveway, they won't take it, even if the other one is fully on the road - they'll just dump the one.

We have 3 guys- one drives the truck the other two hop on and off the back of the truck at each house to empty both sides of the street. They take anything we put out there, 1 can, 6 cans- doesn't matter, anything there they take- I sure as heck tip them- I give them 30.00- its only 10.00 each but at least they know we appreciate them!

I teach first grade. when I was growing up the teacher gifts stopped after 5th grade. you were called a teachers pet if you gave gifts in middle and high school

How sad that you grew up like that...maybe it was because I went to a K-8 school like my kids do/did that we always showed our appreciation for the middle school teachers. We did not give to the high school teachers but it was not for reasons like you stated, it was because there were so many of them.

Here in middle school they have the same number of teachers that they have in high school- my daughter gives gifts to the teachers she has that she likes- there are a few she would never give anything to.

My stepdad is a school bus driver. He loves when he gets gift cards to random places he may not stop all the time. He wouldn't go to Starbucks just anytime but with a gift card he will. He and my mom usually toss homemade treats just because they aren't sure how they were made (moms a nurse)

We always give our bus drivers something because I get to hear the stories about how hard a job it can be. Kids not following rules, parents who yell if their kids are late and he doesn't wait, crazy drivers who don't stop or cut him off, and fighting.

We did $15 Starbucks to one driver be said he is always drinking coffee in the mornings. We did $15 to Panera for the other driver because I've run into him in there twice ;

As far as middle and high school teachers- in general, I don't give gifts, but I do ask each child if there are teachers they'd like to get something for. I have not ever had a kid say they'd like to get Mr. X or Mrs. Y a gift when it comes to the upper grades. If they did have a teacher they liked so much that they wanted to give them something, I'd get a gift card. I don't know if this is due to the culture here at the schools (we're relatively new to the public school system) or the fact that my kids don't celebrate Christmas, so their focus isn't on gift-giving, or something else.

Last year no one was there to get DD 8 at the time. The bus driver called me to tell me and waited until someone got there. They are only obligated to hold kindergarten kids.

I like to think she took extra care because of the gift card. Lol

When the kids at our school reach 5th grade to 8th grade they can have 3 to 4 teachers. We get each teacher a $10 gift card usually. $40 to the teachers doesnt break the bank. We dont do the Specials teachers, they get something from a contribution that each family makes, we donate $10 to that as well. This year Ds12's 3 teachers will get WDW 2016 Calendars, one owns DVC, one just loves the parks and goes all the time. The other teacher got a calendar as well, she is into yoga so we got her a calendar that relates to that.

Our bus driver is like that too. She always takes the extra time to make sure the kiddos are ok. I have heard some nightmare stories of bus drivers that my friend's kids have had, and DS18's high school bus drivers were not good, so I truly do appreciate the one we have for grade school!

We don't gift to teachers because the PTO collects money for a fund for them, but the bus drivers are left out.
